Shorsey Season 2 Episode 4 Recap

Players Only – The episode opens with Nat (Tasya Teles) modeling several skimpy outfits in front of the mirror. Dissatisfied with her options, she ultimately settles on a black, lacey thong and bra, which she showcases later while welcoming the Hall of Famer turned plumber into her home.

Shorsey (Jared Keeso) and Sanguinet (Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat) gather the team in the Bulldog’s locker room for what they refer to as a “Players Only” meeting. They waste several minutes debating over the name because Sanguinet is technically their coach and not a player. Once that’s solved, they attack the team by telling them how they are screwing up. Sanguinet focuses on the Jims (Jon Mirasty, Brandon Nolan, and Jordan Nolan) by bringing their showing up late and leaving early to light. Shoresy attacks Dolo (Jonathan-Ismael Diaby) and Brant “Goody” Goodleaf (Andrew Antsanen) for chasing tail. The Jims attribute their lack of focus to a missing member of their “Reach For The Top” trivia team, who got shanked by a big Indian. Ted “Hitch” Hitchcock (Terry Ryan) suggests someone from the team join them at trivia night but there aren’t any early volunteers.

The team ends up at the “Laughing Buddha” for beers and pizza when Shorsey complains about the meeting going too long without beer. Once there, they discuss the best fit for the trivia team. Once again, there aren’t any volunteers, but Shorsey and Sanguinet devise a strategy to uncover the smartest player. When it comes down to Shorsey, Hitch, and Michaels (Ryan McDonell) he asks them individually how they would approach joining the team. Hitch says he would study all night, Michaels says he would employ a positive attitude, and Shorsey claims he would sleep with Sanguinet’s mother. Sanguinet attempts to narrow the decision further by asking Hitch and Michaels about their strategies. Hitch says despite his looking and acting dumb, no one can match his work ethic. Michaels doesn’t get to explain his strategy because Shoresy now complains about the meeting running too long without chicks.

The team ends up at the Coulson Strip Club this time where they continue their pursuit to uncover the most eligible trivia member. Anxious to ask one of the ladies to dance, Hitch suggests they speed their decision along by choosing one topic to debate about. When they all agree on outer space, Sanguinet orders Michaels to go first. Shorsey teases him before he can string together a sentence. The discussion is soon interrupted by two female patrons who drag Goody and Dolo away. When Hitch goes on a pursuit of his own, Shorsey is left complaining about not getting a chance to use his great “space words”. Sanguinet questions Micahels’ moping. Michaels claims he can’t enjoy the success of being the number one goalie and team in the league because he doesn’t have a mate to share it with.

Although Shorsey had urged Michaels not to dwell on having a mate to share his success with, he ends up at Laura Mohr’s (Camille Sullivan) house using that same line. She asks what that even means. He explains it by claiming he’d loved to share his day with her while also trying to make life easier for her. She appears touched by his admission but uses her sleeping kid as an excuse to brush him off.

The next day, the team gathers at Eddie’s Sports Bar & Restaurant for a mock trivia session. Although Hitch is the quickest on the buzzer, he gets every question wrong. Michaels shines and is chosen to join the “Reach For The Top” trivia team.

Elsewhere on a celebrity gossip-inspired talk show, Marie-Camille welcomes Frankie’s last three girlfriends to dish about their failed relationships. First up is the Quebecian actress, Catherine St-Laurent. Next is the rising podcast star, Lysandre Nadeau (Lysandre Nadeau). The Canadian international pop star, Reve is up last. From cheating with Laurence Leboeuf (Laurence Leboeuf) to his poor dietary habits, the three ladies rag on Frankie. All three claim to still have deep feelings for him, but has a problem with any man that hurts himself.

Nat is shown making her way to her office in a slow-motion strut. Once there, Shoresy accuses her of looking like she just got laid before bringing up the bad news about Frankie. Before she can respond Ziigwan (Blair Lamora) shows up to announce they have a problem. Nat’s patience grows thin and she demands to know what’s going on when Miigwan (Keilani Elizabeth Rose) shows up with the same claims about a problem. After learning that Frankie doesn’t yet know about his exposure, Nat insists they keep it that way. She also mentions that the news hasn’t hurt his calendar sales.

The Quiz Master (Matthew Ellis) introduces Michaels as the newest member of the Jims’ team before kicking off the night’s match-up. The new team shines.

Before the Bulldogs face off against the Norsemen, Shorsey has another interview with Jory Jordan (Maclean Fish). Jory questions him about his jersey number “69” before asking how the Bulldogs plan on dealing with Keller (Calvin Desautels). Shoresy remains silent until Jory shares a photo of Keller’s wife. Shorsey agrees that she’s attractive.

Later that night, the Bulldogs take an early 2 to 0 lead against the Norsemen. The Norseman, MacPherson makes two dirty attempts to score before he and Shoresy come to blows. The episode wraps with the Bulldogs in the lead and MacPherson face down on the ice.

Shorsey Review

Despite the majority of the episode being trivia filler, it was rather enjoyable to see Michaels enjoy some time in the spotlight. There is also the interesting aspect of how Frankie’s going to react to getting nationally busted for cheating. It was obvious that not being able to reach his ladies on the phone was bothering him. Getting busted is bound to bruise his ego much worse. There also seemed to be much less focus on Nat, Ziigwan, and Miigwan, which played in the episode’s favor, not that they weren’t enjoyable. They just feel unnecessary at times, Nat’s new love interest is incredibly intriguing and I can’t wait to see where that goes. I’d give the episode an easy 6 out of 10.
