Blindspot Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

As the second episode of Blindspot begins, Hannah Quinn (Beth Alsbury) tries to use a makeshift torch to get help and stop her attacker. The masked man eventually turns around and leaves. After the intro, Tony Warden (Ross Kempt) brings Hannah to the station for a witness interview. Hannah explains that a man wearing a facemask attacked her. Although she didn’t see his face, she is convinced it is the same man who killed Zoe. She tells him about the alleyway. Tony claims he searched it and found nothing, but Hannah says he barely searched it. He doesn’t want to get caught up in some convoluted conspiracy. Once the interview ends, Tony walks Hannah out and thanks her for coming in.

Hannah worries about going back to her flat to get her meds because the man could be waiting for her. Tony takes her to her flat. When she asks him about his wedding ring, Tony says it is none of her business. They go inside and find the flat ransacked. Hannah says the flat was her parent’s and her safe place. She opens her laptop and shows Tony the picture of the woman’s shirt. Tony claims he’ll handle it although Hannah isn’t confident he’ll do anything about it. She wants to show him the footage too. Louisa (Michelle Bonnard) and Geri talk about Amber’s weird friend. No one believes anything she is saying. Tony said there is no evidence anything happened.

Geri thinks Hannah is just being a drama queen. She worried they’d be in trouble if someone had been killed after they put up all those cameras. Geri asks if there is anything else she should know about Hannah because Louisa has been distant since Dolly phoned. Louisa claims she just wanted to have a word with someone about her bins. Hannah asks Tony about the retirement cards in this vehicle. Tony pretends it is some lads down at the station taking the piss. When the glove compartment opens, Hannah notices an envelope full of money. She asks about it only for Tony to try to shut her down. Hannah argues that he doesn’t do anything. Tony denies that and asks if she has heard of Max Carlton before. He is a dealer, conman, and extremely violent.

Tony believes he is the man who attacked her and killed Zoe. He shows her a picture and explains he has been collecting evidence and building a case against him. He has a dagger tattoo on his wrist. Max disappeared the night Zoe was killed. If he is back, she’ll need to keep a low profile because he is dangerous. Hannah thinks they should catch him instead. Simon Wardle (Lewis Conway) is there when Hannah shows Tony the CCTV footage of the woman’s shirt. Tony asks if there is any way it could’ve been staged. Once she says no, Tony says it is a start. Louisa and Geri talk about the budget meeting. Hannah enters and interrupts their conversation. She learns that Amber got held up at college and will meet them at home.

Louisa steps out of the room to take a call. Hannah tells Geri that Dolly is her cleaner. Geri says Dolly called there earlier and upset Louisa. They were talking about her. Geri says they have their eyes set on a higher prize and they don’t want Louisa to mess that up. Hannah leaves with Louisa moments later. At Louisa’s house, Hannah thanks her for letting her stay with them. Hannah hangs out with Amber (Crystal Clarke) before bedtime. Hannah asks if she has heard of Max. She explains that he was a dealer and might’ve killed Zoe. She didn’t want to bring it up, but Amber had to buy drugs from someone. Hannah wonders if Zoe’s parents knew Max. She suggests Amber could talk to her parents. Amber doesn’t want to keep putting her family through that.

Hannah admits she is going to do it anyway though. They visit Mr. Mason the following day. Hannah tells him that she knows who killed Zoe and he is back on the estate. Once they go inside, Hannah tells him that his name is Max Carlton. Mr. Mason says he has never heard his name before. He says Zoe didn’t talk to them about her life since she started working in that café on Rose Lane. Hannah finds that odd because her cleaner Dolly works there. He doesn’t know what happened to her there, but claims she fell in with a bad crowd. Mr. Mason asks Amber why she let Zoe throw her life away like that. Hannah doesn’t think that is fair. Mr. Mason gets upset before they leave. Amber begins blaming herself although Hannah reminds her that she was sorting out her own stuff.

Amber reveals that dealers weren’t happy with Zoe for helping her get clean. Hannah tells her to go home because she is going to poke the hornet’s nest. She goes to Dolly to see what she knows about Zoe and Max. Dolly knows better than to start talking about Max behind his back. Max started coming in there and figured out that Zoe was broke so he offered her work on the side. He eventually trapped her and made her do dodgy stuff. Dolly couldn’t call the police because Max has the police in his pocket. Tony visits Louisa to ask for a favor. He wants her to look through council records for Max Carlton. Although he could do it at the station, he doesn’t want to leave a trail until he has what he needs. He explains that he believes Carlton was involved in Zoe Mason’s murder.

Louisa says she can’t because she has to do things by the book while running for election. Hannah joins Simon in the security room. Once she is alone, she receives a call from a private number. The caller tells Hannah that she has been looking for him. Max doesn’t like people nosing around in his business so she’ll pay the price. He tells her to watch the cameras because he is going to get one of her friends. After he scares her, Hannah promises to stop and tell the police she made everything up. He tells her to delete the recording she made last week. Hannah turns on her phone’s camera and deletes the videos before being told to back off. Max warns Hannah not to make him call her again. She tracks his movements on the cameras.

She sees him go to the theater so she follows him there. Amber joins her moments later. Hannah doesn’t tell Amber why they’re there. They’re surprised when Tony shows up to see the same movie. Hannah says she didn’t call him so she doesn’t know what he is doing there. She wants to get proof that Warden is bent. Hannah believes Tony is giving Max money. She suggests Simon can read their lips, but Amber thinks they should leave. Tony leaves the theater without seeing them. They notice that Max is standing in front of them before he disappears. They try to escape. Once they reach the lobby, they worry that Max could be outside waiting for them. Amber argues that she already got Zoe killed and she won’t stop.

Hannah doesn’t think that is fair because she didn’t kill Zoe. She can’t let him get away with it. Amber tells her she is on her own. Hannah visits Dolly to say she thinks she might be in danger. Dolly lets her in once she learns that she ticked off Max. Dolly is going to take the dog out even though she could be in danger. Hannah is told to stay there and not to let anyone in. Dolly calls Louisa’s office and tells Geri that she knows. Once she learns that Louisa isn’t in, Dolly decides to hang up. Hannah hears someone knocking on the door. She hears clatter and finds the window open so she suspects someone may have come in. Hannah tries to escape through the front door, but she can’t unlock the top lock.

Max approaches her and attacks her from behind. Hannah tries to fight him off as someone arrives at the door. Hannah stabs him in the neck just before Dolly prepares to come back in with her dog. Hannah checks the man before telling Dolly that it is not Max. She accuses Dolly of telling them she was there when she went outside. Hannah gets upset and storms out of Dolly’s house. Simon is shocked when Hannah arrives with blood on her face. She breaks down and begins hugging him. Simon learns that she killed someone.

Blindspot Review

Blindspot’s second episode was on par with the episode before it. While the series has some issues, it is somewhat watchable. The series has received such terrible criticism it is hard not to have a soft spot for it, but it really isn’t as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Nevertheless, the story is pretty unrealistic and some of the performances aren’t great.

The good news is that the story is simple enough that it doesn’t require any effort from the viewer. It is interesting enough to at least make me want to find out how everything ends and who survives. At the very least, Blindspot is focusing on serious subject matter and it is trying to be serious about it.

The episode scores a 5 out of 10. Recaps of Blindspot are available on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising on Reel Mockery here.
