Rumors Swirl Around BBC Grand Theft Auto Drama Game Changer

Would you like to know the whole history behind arguably the most popular video game of all time, Grand Theft Auto? If you have access to BBC or know how to use the Internet like a pro, you may get your chance to relive history, with BBC’s drama Gamechanger, which is based on the history of the game’s creation. The series has already hooked two big names, Daniel Radcliffe and Bill Paxton.

Daniel Radcliffe is set to play the co-founder of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser. Bill Paxton looks to be Daniel’s arch nemesis, as Jack Thompson, who strongly campaigned against the revolutionary, violent franchise. The 90-minute drama is  currently known as Gamechanger or Game Changer, but that could all change, before its release. Once the news of the TV series was released, Rockstar went to work trying to kill off the show!

The company is currently trying to put a halt to series, by suing the television network for trademark infringement. According to the company’s release, Rockstar attempted to make contact with the BBC on numerous occasions, but failed to work out a compromise. Truthfully, it sounds like Rockstar Games wants some of the action or a portion of the creative control. Otherwise, wouldn’t they have sued for defamation?

Mark Zuckerberg faced similar circumstances years ago with the release of the Social Network. Strangely enough, Zuckerberg, who is often portrayed as an arrogant jerk, ignored the film and didn’t attempt to get it squashed. Personally, this looks a little sad on behalf of Rockstar Games. This is a company that has used the First Amendment to wiggle out of numerous lawsuits and game bans.

With the history between Rockstar Games and Jack Thompson, I would personal like to see the drama made. With Bill Paxton and Daniel Radcliffe involved, I am even more eager to see how it turns out. According to IMDB, the film is already in post-production status. If that is the case, let Rockstar drop the suit and allow the world to make their own judgements. In all likelihood, Rockstar Games and Sam Houser will wind up looking heroic, while Thompson will look like a crazy crusader.

Until then, I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.
