Sony Pictures Entertainment and Netflix have announced a multi-year, first pay window licensing deal for theatrically released Sony Pictures Entertainment feature films. The agreement will begin with the studio’s 2022 film slate. As a part of the deal, Netflix will obtain first pay window rights to Sony Pictures Entertainment titles.
This will include titles following their theatrical and home entertainment windows. Some of the initial 2022 offerings will include Bullet Train, Where the Crawdads Sing, Uncharted, and Morbius. They’ll be followed by Sony’s rejuvenated state of IP such as the sequel to the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
According to the partnership, Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group will allow Netflix to have a first look at the films it intends to make directly for streaming or decides to license for streaming later. Netflix has agreed to make a number of those films over the course of the deal. Further details can be found here.
