At the beginning of the episode, Bernard Marx (Harry Lloyd) and Mustafa Mond (Nina Sosanya) stand over Henry’s body and chat about his death. She wipes away what looks like a tear from Bernard’s cheek before he blames himself for Henry’s death. Mond blames herself for letting the savage into New London. They agree they need to stop the savage before things spiral too far out of control. After their conversation ends, Bernard enters the counselor’s office and takes over that position. We join Lenina Crowne (Jessica Brown Findlay) at work. She looks around and notices that Frannie (Kylie Bunbury) isn’t there. Frannie is taken in for reconditioning while the others blame Lenina for Frannie having to go through that. They claim Frannie wanted to be like Lenina but ended up getting into trouble. Bernard begins summoning Lenina to his office but she ignores his calls.

Lenina goes off on the others before removing the optic from her eye and throwing it to the ground. The others do not believe she’ll crush it with her foot but she does and leaves the room. After the intro, Marx receives congratulations from some of his colleagues as she tracks Lenina and learns about her optic breaking. He offers to get another but Lenina isn’t interested. She is surprised to learn that he has been made director since Henry had an accident. They agree that people can’t understand it because they haven’t seen an unnatural death before. Bernard tells her that there is no reason they cannot be friends before realizing she is trying to visit John. She accuses Bernard of taking John’s memories and putting them out there for everyone to see.

Bernard warns her that John is extremely dangerous. Then, John (Alden Ehrenreich) looks at the piece of metal CJack60 (Joseph Morgan) found. John says that this place is poison and what happens to Jack’s friend happens to everyone before admitting he doesn’t know how to get Lenina back. Jack wants to know what they should do. John tells the Epsilon that they don’t need him to tell them what to do or how it should be. He says it should be no one above or below before encouraging them to just give up. One of the Epsilon tries to take a soma before John takes the dispenser and tells them that they do not need it. He says they should stop taking it so they can know how to feel and who to blame. The Epsilon throw down their soma dispensers.

After that, Bernard meets with Frannie and a counselor so she can be reconditioned. Frannie says she feels perfectly realigned and the counselor agrees she is ready to be restored to the social body. Frannie says the social body needs to be purified and they cannot let things slide. Frannie is given an electrocution weapon of sorts before Lenina tries to visit John. She runs into Gary and tries to figure out where John has gone but Gary doesn’t want to betray John’s trust. She tells Gary she is going to be leaving New London. John tells Jack that he needs to find Lenina. John explains that he just talked for them and that they should refuse to work to teach the Alphas a lesson. Jack says he has hundreds of men and nobody notices an Epsilon. Seconds later, Helm Watson (Hannah John-Kamen) speaks to Mond about the painting on the wall.

Helm believes it is real before Mond tells Helm that she knows her and her work. Helm replays John’s memories and tells Mustafa all about them. Helm stops the video on a picture of Jane and says she is Mustafa. Helm wants to know who memory it is and who is looking at her. She says the child feels like Mond is its mother but Mond doesn’t understand that. Helm is asked to leave before Mond sees Jane enter her room. The workers at the hatchery can’t continue when supplies stop arriving. Gary meets with John and tells him about Lenina visiting and saying she was leaving New London. Bernard speaks to the people and tries to convince him that there is nothing to worry about but John grabs a weapon and the Epsilons follow him. Frannie approaches Lenina and hits her with the taser.

Meanwhile, John and the Epsilons bash the soma machines. Jane speaks to Mond about the AI and everything being connected. Mond goes on to talk about how the memories and dreams of others will eventually become a part of Jane. Seconds later, Jane tells Mond that she is trying to stop her and she can’t because it is already started. Mond warns Jane that she is going to be all alone when everyone is gone. Gary finds out that the soma is running out and the others do too. Bernard tries to convince everyone that the soma will be returning. He finds out that the place is turning to chaos before hiding his personal supply of soma.

John accuses one of the Epsilons of taking some of the soma. He is joking and laughs about it. Then, he notices Jill in the distance. Bernard watches as Lenina is led through the halls. Meanwhile, Mond continues talking to Jane about the 10 of them, New London, and other things. Jane warns her that she doesn’t want to go up there. John and the Epsilons search New London for Lenina but the Epsilons have another idea. They begin killing the Alphas and Betas. Nothing John says is going to stop them. Frannie is stopped and this gives Lenina time to run away from her. CJack60 finds Bernard in his office and confronts him. Bernard reminds him that he didn’t create the system but Jack doesn’t want to hear it. Bernard changes the subject by talking about the man who jumped to his death and saying he obtained a part of him.

They go back and forth until Jack 60 tells Bernard to stay hidden so he can live. Frannie catches Lenina and tries to attack her again until Lenina talks her out of it. She breaks her conditioning and admits she doesn’t want to do it. She runs off while Jack 60 walks the halls and watches what they’re doing. He tries to stop an attack but it doesn’t work. Mond approaches him and he asks why they’re like this. She tells him she needs him before they walk away together. John walks the halls while Lenina runs for her life. Mond and CJack60 head underground and he helps her enter the locked door using his thumbprint. Meanwhile, John runs into Bernard while he tries to find Lenina. They believe they’ve found her dead on the ground but she shows up behind them.

Bernard accuses John of causing all of those deaths but he tries to convince Lenina otherwise. She admits he frightens her. He tells her that he isn’t bad. The Epsilons walk past and Lenina explains they won’t touch them because they’re not wearing optics. Mond and CJack60 continue walking when Jack notices his friend but she tells him that none of this is real. She tells him that he is seeing an illusion. She tells him to open his eyes so he tries to remove the optic from his eye. He has to use the piece of metal he found to remove it. Once it is removed, he sees the bodies of the creators sitting on beds of sorts. Mond tells Jack that Indra made the world and it was almost perfect. The people before him were her friends. She says they can deactivate it there and end it everywhere. Mond pushes one of the buttons and it changes New London.

CJack60 helps her as Helm’s visions disappear. An airplane crashes outside while Bernard sees a strange vision. He sees Jane and the others standing around a tree before entering a strange land with Jane. She tells him that there are other worlds and other places. CJack60 sees Elliot and realizes he is the one who created him while Jane tries to convince Bernard she can make him happy elsewhere. Jane admits she doesn’t like being alone and Bernard says being abandoned is the worst before Jack chokes Elliot. The Epsilons stop as the things around Bernard crash to the ground. Then, we jump forward and Bernard wakes up with Helm nearby. Bernard grabs a box sitting next to him and Helm tells him that she saw a vision and he was leading a group of people.

Bernard and Helm leave together in a shuttle seconds later. John walks through the walls and looks at the aftermath of the chaos. He finds Lenina next to Mustafa Mond. Lenina asks Mond why her before she is told that she is different. Mond confesses that it isn’t over yet because Indra is out there somewhere. Bernard and Helm travel to the Savage Lands. A truck arrives, Sheila (Kate Fleetwood) jumps out, and Bernard gives her the box. Sheila tells them to get in and they do. As the truck pulls away, we see that Bernard is still wearing his optic device in his eye. Then, we jump over to John who goes fishing and returns to his shack.

Lenina is there with him but she starts glitching and we see that John is reliving memories. It looks like Lenina is still in New London.

 

Brave New World Review

I enjoyed Brave New World and am sad that the season is now over. However, I’ll say that the show was a bit confusing. I am still not sure what actually happened there in the end. I could be wrong but I guess Jane or Indra went to the Savage Lands with Bernard. He had the optic in his eye so I assume she was within him. I am not sure what was going on with John. Was he banished and living with his memories of Lenina?

Mustafa selected Lenina for something so I wonder if she is going to be the next director. Then again, CJack60 and Mustafa Mond shut everything down so they’d have to rebuild first. Who knows? I think there is a lot left for Brave New World. I sincerely hope it gets another season. We’ll have to wait and see if that happens. The finale was okay but confusing. I’d give it a 7 out of 10.
