Karl (Eoin Macken) finds Lommie (Maya Eshet) working on the computer. She freaks out. Karl pulls out her cords. Lommie tells her to never do that when she is in deep. She explains that she is putting patches on the firewall that Roy (David Ajala) put up. Thale (Sam Strike) has a vision that he is being rubbed down by a lot of older women. His stomach is cut open. He wakes from his nightmare. After the intro, Agatha (Gretchen Mol) has a conversation with Thale while looking at his drawings. He tells her that the picture of the body being ripped open felt like it came from somewhere. She encourages Thale to go out there and make some friends. She tells him to let it go and stop with the self-pity. Auggie (Brian F. O’Byrne) speaks with Lommie in the cafeteria. He shows her how to order whatever she wants.

Auggie asks her what it is like to port into the system. She tries to describe it to him. Rowan (Angus Sampson) speaks with Melantha (Jodie Turner-Smith) about Roy. Auggie tells them that Cynthia was not a bad person. Auggie speaks with Willa (Aoibhinn McGinnity). They speak about the organic material being picked up. He doesn’t believe it is the Volcyrn. Auggie tries to meet with Roy. He tells him about the streams of organic compounds. Roy too believes it might be the Volcryn. Tessia (Miranda Raison), Rowan and the others glance out the window. Karl and the others join Roy. The ship is Eagle 16. It was a part of their failed Europa project.

Roy admits they lost the ship and nobody knows what happened to it. The ship operates on a Crystal Matrix just like the Nightflyer. Roy tells Auggie that his mother never left the ship. Her spirit resides inside of their crystal. Karl suggests swapping out the crystal and getting rid of Cynthia for good. Roy doesn’t like the idea, because his mother would be left alone. He eventually agrees to the plan. Karl assembles his team and prepares to board the other ship. The team boards Eagle 16. Mel is surprised that the artificial gravity is still working on the ship. They’re unable to communicate with Roy. Lommie discovers that the air is safe to breathe. They decide to leave their masks on anyway. Lommie takes her off and is just fine. Rowan explains that the air smells like death.

The team needs to reach the lower deck to find the crystal. The ship is a mess. There are signs of a fight. They see a figure in the distance. It is an empty suit. The suit belongs to Captain Judson Smith (Ned Dennehy). A hand grabs Karl. Soon, the group is surrounded by people. Karl offers to help, but they do not want it. Connie (Olwen Fouere) tells Karl to follow her. Willa tells Roy about the lack of communication. Karl and his team meet with the others. Connie wants the group to eat with them. She tells them that the woman are farmers and they grow everything they eat on the ship. Mel recognizes the woman as Constance Brighthead. Connie is impressed with Mel and what she has created. Eagle 16 was never lost. It was highjacked. Connie explains that the captain threw them into the void.

She explains that Smith and his crew killed themselves. Lommie excuses herself. In private, she tells Lommie that something bad is going on. Connie checks on her too. Rowan speaks to the group about their time in the void. Karl asks to see how they survive. Mel is overly impressed with Connie. Karl tells Rowan to get to the airlock so they can send a message to the Nightflyer. Roy tells Agatha he wants Thale to reach out to Karl and the others. Lommie and Auggie speak about the lunatics. Lommie tells Auggie that it is a cult. Auggie agrees that Lommie’s dad did the right thing to get out of the cult she was in as a child. They continue descending downward. Lommie tells Auggie how she ended up on the Nightflyer. Rowan sneaks around in hopes of getting to the airlock. Lommie hears something.

Auggie claims that he is not worried about the women. They do not hold a candle to Cynthia. He suggests that she wasn’t bad. She was just strong. They find the crystal, which is not even being used. Rowan is attacked from behind. Thale tries to reach Karl and the others. He sees Auggie and Lommie. He tells them about the women on the ship. Lommie accesses a video of Captain Smith. He tells them that they have taken over the ship. Auggie gets angry and smashes the crystal. He is attacked by a group of women. Lommie takes a piece of the crystal and runs for it. Connie has been following the Volcryn. She claims that it isn’t a ship. It is a miracle. Mel and the others are allowed to see Connie’s creation.

It is a bunch of human bodies they are using for food. Karl is subdued by the women. Rowan wakes up. He is tied to a table near Captain Smith and Auggie. Smith knows Auggie or Augustine. Smith tells the truth about the ship. The woman killed the men one by one except for a few of the givers. A woman, Ruthanne, enters with a medical instrument of sorts. Ruthanne uses the machine to suck something out of Judson. Smith encourages them not to resist. Lommie arrives. She attacks Ruthanne and stops the nonsense. Smith tells her to just leave him. He claims that he has nothing left. He promises to kill himself after he takes care of Ruthanne. Smith prepares to enact revenge on Ruthanne. Thale tells Roy that there are people gathering.

Lommie returns to Connie. Thale tells them about Connie. Lommie goes along with Connie’s insanity. Lommie stabs Connie in the stomach. She tells her that she was the poison. Mel and Karl free themselves. Lommie and the others make a break for it. They make it to the airlock and prepare to return to the Nightflyer. Thale tells Agatha that it isn’t over. He claims that it is going to get stranger as they get closed to the Volcryn. Lommie is praised for saving them. Auggie claims Connie for smashing the crystal. Lommie doesn’t tell the truth. She decides to port to get a break from the world. Auggie speaks with Cynthia. He tells her that he saved her life. Roy sleeps with Lommie. The crystal blinks erratically as Auggie tells Cynthia that he will always be loyal to the real Captain Eris.

Agatha and Karl have sex too. His eye bleeds. He asks Agatha if she is an L.

 

Nightflyers Review

Nightflyers just keeps getting crazier and crazier. It was nice to see Ned Dennehy. He is definitely an underrated actor. I didn’t know that he was in this series. The only problem is Nightflyers is the fact that the story is just going in circles. Each episode is fairly interesting in its own right, but they do not do much to progress the story. This one didn’t either really. It was fun. It also taught us more about Auggie and his relationship with Cynthia. We also learned that Agatha might be an L. Otherwise, we’re no closer to the Volcryn.

Still, the episode was pretty fun and it was nice to see Ned Dennehy for a few minutes. For that, the episode scores a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Nightflyers right away.
