Witness Number 3 Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

s01e03 witness number 3 recap jodie

As the third episode of Witness Number 3 begins, the others tell Po (Ruaridh Mollica) good luck. One man gives him a knife and instructs him to dump it instead of bringing it back here. The boss slams another man’s head to the table when he messes up. He tells Joe it is a lot of money he is owing him. Po tells the boss he is ready to become a man now. He leaves and tries to get himself pumped up for what he is about to do. Jodie (Nina Toussaint-White) wakes up when she hears thumping in her flat. As it gets louder, she decides to look around. She picks up a toy and grabs her phone while the alarm blinked red. While changing the lightbulb, a figure appears behind her, but she doesn’t see them. Jodie gets rid of the spider left under the glass now that it has died.

When she hears another noise, she begins yelling for Kyle (Cole Martin) thinking it might be him before grabbing a knife. She looks around and even checks outside. Once she goes back in, she secures all the locks on the front door. She goes to the kitchen for a glass of water. Jodie looks at a picture and sees a reflection of the figure behind her. She doesn’t panic and instead tries to leave through the front door. Before she can get it open, the intruder approaches. Jodie manages to flee up the stairs and lock herself in the strong room. As Po continues banging on the door, Jodie yells that it is made of steel so he won’t get through. She wants to activate the alarm. Jodie yells that she already activated a silent alarm and it doesn’t matter if he cut the power since it can only be disabled by the police.

She thinks about Ivan (Sion Daniel Young) before Po argues nobody is going to save her. Jodie bangs on the window and screams for help. When she tries to use the phone, Po destroys the cord preventing her from calling for assistance. Jodie searches through the supplies before sitting down next to the door. Po plays around with the flashlight while sitting near the door on the opposite side. He gets a call from someone asking if he is good and requesting a call once it is done. Jodie pleads with him to just go before anyone comes. Po goes through her room while looking at her underwear and testing her perfume. The boss calls to find out what is going on, but Po doesn’t respond. He continues moving through the house. Jodie screams while Po brushes his teeth in the bathroom. Jodie imagines having a conversation with Benjamin about their son’s first stuffed animal.

He claims the baby will provide the focus he needs to stay clean. While Po has something to eat, Jodie tells him it is over because he can’t come in and she isn’t coming out. Kyle begins banging on the front door and yelling for his mother. Po taps the knife on the steel door and asks if she still thinks he has lost. She asks him not to hurt the boy because she’ll make him go. Once she opens the door, Po lets her get the front door. Kyle says Dave needs money for the cab. Po holds the knife to her back before Jodie goes back inside to get the money. After she returns with the money, Kyle asks why she is being so weird. Jodie asks if he minds going to the hospital to stay with nan tonight. Kyle keeps saying he wants to go inside as Jodie desperately tries to convince him to leave.

When Kyle eventually relents and agrees to go to the hospital, Jodie yells that she loves him. Jodie goes back inside and locks the door. Po quickly takes her to the strong room and says he has her right where he wants her now. He tells her to get her mouth shut while placing the blade against her face. Po admits she is fitter up close and Troops is right about that. He mentions her nice lips and lips. After she asks how old he is, Po gets loud reminding her he didn’t let her speak. He forces her to sit on the floor before revealing the other guy just broke after they burned his van. Po says they messed with her son, trashed her shop, and put her mom in the hospital. She could’ve walked away and all of this would’ve been gone. Po questions why it matters to her anyway.

Some guy she never met killed some junkie she never met. She should’ve just let it go, but she is going to die for it now. Po calls it stupid. He asks about the boy’s dad since she is fit for an old woman. He says old like a mom and she repeats it. Jodie asks how long he has had him in his pocket. She reiterates by asking about the police. Po says it was anything since the police pay is poor, but she shouldn’t take it personally. He goes on to say all police are scum like that. Jodie knows kids like him and that they think they have no other choice. She argues that they’re just scared deep down. Po claims he has never been scared in his life. He walks down the street and grown men cross the road to get out of his way. People at the shop know him and hand out freebies.

Po believes people only get scared when they’ve got stuff to lose and he doesn’t, but she says everyone has something. Jodie admits she did it because of him, his mates, and his boss. She wanted to hurt the people who hurt her. Kyle’s dad died when he was five. He was an addict who didn’t want to be, but they wouldn’t let go. Every time he got clean, they got their fingers in him and dragged him back again. On the night he died, he was trying to break into a house but fell off the garage roof and smashed his head on the pavement. When she got his phone back, she found that the last message was from Po’s lot. The message said, “Two for one deals, all weekend. While stocks last.” Jodie asks who this guy is to him and why it matters if he goes to prison. Po says he enjoys it even though Jodie claims it seems like he hates it.

She warns him he is going to spend the best part of his life in a prison cell after this while other kids are out having fun. She goes on to say he’ll be the first up against the wall. Po questions why she didn’t just take her husband and leave if she hates them so much. When he sees someone like her husband, he sees a cashpoint. He is never going to let that go. Po tells Jodie she should’ve protected her husband instead of standing by and letting his mates get to him. She yells that he has no idea because she had a son coming home from school and finding his dad passed out on the sofa. She was protecting her son and that is something his piece of crap mother would know nothing about. Po gets mad and yells at her to never talk about his mother or family. He tells her to shut up.

In a flashback, Phillip meets with a man who knows his teacher Mr. Lookman. Gabi knows he is smart when he wants to be. The teacher thought he might want a job to help with his situation at home. He can hire him to hand out flyers for the restaurant so he can work a couple of hours on the weekend and after school. Gabi reminds him that there is no minimum for people under 16, but he’ll pay the minimum wage of 4.62 an hour. Seconds later, Gabi has to leave. Phil hears someone talking about money before he is approached by a man who knows his name. He knows him because he is Scotty’s mate. Phil is told that handing out flyers is slave labor. If he wants to make some real money, he should call the guy. Gabi returns and continues talking to Phil about the job offer.

In the present, Jodie talks to Po about where he is from as she suspects he is a long way from home. She was practically a teenager when she had Kyle and didn’t know what to do with herself. She just wanted to be out with her mates having fun but didn’t want a kid. Jodie admits she was too proud to ask for help and too selfish to look after him. She could’ve gone another way. Po says she didn’t because she is a fighter like him. She suggests she just got lucky. They begin talking about Kyle who is good to Jodie sometimes. He suspects she is a strict mom who keeps tabs on her son before telling her that they call him Po although his real name is Phil. Jodie confesses that he was right because she should’ve taken her husband and got as far away from here as possible.

She should’ve taken him somewhere he could recover, but she ended up throwing him out and telling him to cope by himself. She questions what kind of person does that. They told her that it took him four and a half hours to die after he hit his head. Jodie tells Po she can help him because it doesn’t have to be like this. He has other choices now and she can make things better. She claims it doesn’t have to end like this because she has friends who can help him get out of the gang. Po gets upset and refuses to believe it. He tells her to get up. He begins screaming there is no escape for him now. While he is freaking out, Jodie grabs a flashlight and knocks him out with it. She flees from the apartment as the episode ends.

Witness Number 3 Review

Witness Number 3 has been a mostly entertaining drama with a few tense moments sprinkled in. The performances are believable so everything happening feels authentic even when the story isn’t. The episode took a few unexpected turns as Jodie came face to face with the man sent to kill her. Instead, the couple had a heart-to-heart conversation before Jodie made her escape.

While the series is only four episodes, it likely could’ve been condensed even more to three since this episode and the others have dragged in places. The episode was intense at times even though we knew Jodie would be fine since there is another episode. It’ll be interesting to see how the series ends since there are many ways it could go.

The episode scores a 6 out of 10. Recaps of Witness Number 3 can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support us at this link.
