Whitstable Pearl Review

A very disappointing start to the second season. The dialogue isn’t comical or dramatic, but interminably dull and empty.

Mike’s apathetic mannerism makes him an unsuitable leading role. He reminds me of Tim Conway’s character, The Oldest Man (Duane Toddleberry). The only difference is Tim Conway loved performing and making people laugh. Mike, on the other hand, is nothing short of a bore.

Physical barriers – doors and windows – have forever played a role in storytelling. More commonly, a door is utilized to separate two characters.

When utilized appropriately, a door can give the illusion of freedom, security, and entrapment. In this case, it’s incorporated into the cinematography, giving the illusion of looking through a window at the characters on the other side. Unfortunately, the execution was poor. Whether intentional or not, the view was partially obscured.

The cast doesn’t accurately represent Whitstable, England. This commonality in the West film industry is very unfortunate.

Poor Tom was browbeaten and scrutinized at every turn.

Too much talking and too little true detective work. The ending felt rushed and came together too easily.

The episode deserves a 5.5. Get more Whitstable Pearl recaps here. Support Reel Mockery by clicking the link.

    1. I am thinking it was filmed at The Citadel on Dover’s Western Heights which was originally built in the 1700s for defense during the Napoleonic war. Really neat ruins. I’ve always liked the urban exploring stuff so this was a highlight of the episode.

  1. I love the jacket that Rohan Nedd has on at the ruins….it has a mountain scene and is cream with purple, orange and green. Any idea where I can find out the brand of the jacket? He is wearing it in the photo you have of him from the episode with the hat one.

    1. Give me a little bit and I’ll try to get a better picture so I can Google Image search it. Will let you know what I find. If you don’t want to wait on me, pause the video and snap a picture of the jacket. Search for Google Image Search and click the little icon on the right side of the search bar. You can upload pictures there and find matches. Works sometimes for clothes. Will check soon though and update you.

Here it is: ASOS DESIGN oversized borg jacket in scenic print. If you search for that in Google, you’ll find it.
