Wentworth Season 3 Review

If you’ve been following along with SoHo’s Wentworth, you’ve likely been enjoying the ride. If you haven’t, you’re definitely missing out, because Wentworth continues to knock it out of the park and season 3 is no different. It picks up right where season 2 left off and never falters! The season starts with new revelations and ends with some totally intense moments.

All of the girls return and the season actually adds a few new additions. Each plays a major role and each is entirely easy to relate to. Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) doesn’t really face much competition in the way of the other ladies, but she faces something much more fierce in The Governor, Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe). Rabe and Cormack continue impressing with amazing performances.

Maxine Conway (Socratis Otto) continues being the sidekick, but plays a much bigger role this season. Jess Warner (Georgia Chara) returns and is as creepy as ever. Georgia Chara definitely has the creep factor to make it entirely believable. Without giving away too much, she gets a little too close to Doreen Anderson’s (Shareena Clanton) baby, Joshua.

Wentworth Prison receives a new shrink, Franky gets up for parole and has a falling out with Boomer. Matthew Fletcher (Aaron Jeffery) makes a somewhat triumph, but wobbly, return to the show, while Will Jackson (Robbie Magasiva) becomes the center of attention in a homicide case. Liz Birdsworth (Celia Ireland) returns to old ways and encounters a dramatic event, when her daughter is imprisoned.

Vera Bennett (Kate Atkinson) continues begin the Governor’s lapdog and very obedient to her master. Of course, some surprises will come her way, which will force her to rethink her alliance with the Governor. Overall, the action continues, the scheming worsens and each inmate is pushed to their limits, as Franky Doyle (Nicole da Silva) and Bea Smith become cohorts and attempt to bring down the Governor.

Overall, I totally loved this season of Wentworth. Each episode was thrilling and enthralling in its own right. Each pushes the envelope further, until everything explodes in the season finale. I was watching Wentworth and switching over to Orange Is The New Black afterwards and there is no comparison for each show’s respective third season.

OITNB felt like a cluttered mess and barely watchable, while Wentworth continued to sail high. Netflix should rethink their decision to place this Australian great on their service, but people will begin seeing the light. With that, get caught up with Wentworth as soon as possible, because you’ll want to watch it, as soon as it shows up on Netflix.

The third season of Wentworth deserves a 9 out of 10! Be sure to check up with the rest of Wentworth now!
