Unforgotten is a 2015 British crime drama, which airs on ITV. The series premiered in October of 2015 and concluded in November. The 6th episode crime drama follows DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) and DS Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar), as they attempt to uncover the murder of Jimmy Sullivan (Harley Sylvester). As the series unfolds, we’re introduced to an intriguing, complex cast of characters, which includes the wheelchair bound Eric Slater (Tom Courtenay) and former skin head Lizzie Wilton (Ruth Sheen). Each character has a problematic past, which makes them likely suspects.
Among our suspects, we also have Father Robert Greaves (Barnard Hill) and former ganger, Sir Phillip Cross (Trevor Eve). Although our potential suspects have managed to break free of their past behavior, they’re quick to return to the seedy underworld, when necessary. This becomes very evident quick into the series and helps to place each character into the viewer’s crosshairs at some point or another. Of course, the mystery is fantastic and remains as such well after the conclusion. Even after the suspect is apprehended, a handful of questions remain unanswered, which helps to justify a second season.
I really liked Unforgotten. Although it is a cop, crime drama, it is much different. Instead of instantly discovering a body and quickly uncovering the victim’s identity, Unforgotten holds nothing back and shows each piece of the investigation. Also, there is a little bit of everything. A sappy love story, a redemption and a solid mystery. The acting is fantastic and each character works in conjunction to draw the viewer in and force them to contemplate the crime and all potential events leading up to it. The series is great and a second season is definitely deserved. An 8.5 out of 10 is deserved.
