Simone Hale (Sara Powell) enters the room as they are setting up the chessboard. Rachel apologizes and complements her necklace before they leave. Geoff informs Rachel of a private job proposition for double the pay. She gets upset when he asks if there is anything going on. He urges her to pay the man a visit. She refuses to go unless he takes her. He reluctantly agrees. Later, he arrives to pick up Rachel to find Liam with her. After a bit of back and forth, he drives them to the mansion. Liam and Rachel enter the house. Simone says they will need to do a background screening. Rachel asks if she should do the same for her boss. During a tour of the mansion, Simone stops in front of a door. She says if the door is shut, the area is off-limits. Rachel sarcastically asks if it is his “pain room”. The story progresses very slowly. Not enough is revealed in the pilot to determine the track the story is going to take. The scenes with Jasmine are completely unnecessary. Some of the dialogue is cringeworthy, especially Jasmine’s lines.
The acting is great for the most part. The cinematography and editing are good. It’s questionable if there is enough going on to keep viewers tuned in. The episode deserves a 5.8 out of 10.
