As the episode begins, Mr. Gilmore (Nicholas Jones) is questioned by Nash (Art Malik) about the wedding. Then, we see Percival Glyde (Dougray Scott) giving a gift to Laura (Olivia Vinall). Walter (Ben Hardy) enters and interrupts the conversation. He is introduced to Glyde. The conversation is pretty awkward. In private, Walter tells Marian (Jessie Buckley) what he learned from Anne. Marian doesn’t want to believe. They speak with Gilmore and try to convince him to stop the marriage. He doesn’t listen. Frederick (Charles Dance) speaks with Marian alone. He explains that he is going to relieve Walter of his duties. Marian tries and fails to talk him out of it. She tells Walter about the decision right away. Walter speaks with Laura.

Laura promises to be there for the departure. She hides his gift in her room. Laura is side tracked by Glyde. She doesn’t get to see Walter leave. When Laura leaves, Glyde begins speaking about Anne. He admits to knowing her. Her mother was a servant for him. He explains that the child was not of sound mind. As Anne got older, her condition worsened. That is why they decided to put in a private asylum. He gives Gilmore the mother’s address so they can follow up on his story. During dinner, Glyde speaks about his wishes for the funeral. It is clear that Laura isn’t happy with the idea. In the morning, Glyde and Marian go riding together. Glyde does his best to win Marian’s support. When she returns home, she speaks with Gilmore about Percival and the letter. Percival tries to chat with Laura, but she finds an excuse to go to bed.

That night, Laura has a nightmare. In the morning, she gets Marian’s help dealing with Glyde. She tells him that she no longer longs for him. Glyde isn’t willing to give up just yet. Walter writes a letter to Marian. He explains that he has been looking for Anne everywhere. He believes that he is being followed. Walter becomes upset with it. He is no longer able to paint. He attacks a stranger in the streets. Gilmore gets the letter from Anne’s mother. Percival is cleared of suspicion. Laura begins making plans should anything happen to her. She gives Marian items to pass along to Walter. She also tells Marian to tell Walter that she loves him. Nash speaks with Glyde’s lawyer. He admits that Laura’s inheritance should go to Glyde should anything happen to Laura. They gave the family two days to agree to those terms. We see Gilmore negotiating with Frederick.

Percival’s solicitor joins them shortly. Marian receives a message. She meets with Walter a few seconds later. He explains that he is being watched everywhere he goes. Marian admits she believes Glyde and the wedding is going to go ahead. Laura arrives. Walter tells her that he is leaving the country for work. Frederick continues negotiating with Glyde’s solicitor. Frederick goes against his solicitor’s wishes and signs the paperwork. Gilmore apologizes to Marian. In return, she belittles Frederick. He insists that his duty is now done. Laura learns that she will be married on September 22nd. Marian goes on a rant about men. Laura agrees to the date. Glyde tells Laura that he wants to go traveling with her. She pretends to be happy with the idea. Marian and Laura comfort one another that night. Next, Marian gives Laura a wedding gift. Marian speaks with Glyde about the three months honeymoon. He admits that he wants to travel with Laura alone.

Marian has no choice but to agree. Then, Marian is introduced to Count Fosco (Riccardo Scamarcio) or Sicily. He is a friend of Glyde. Anne visits Frances’s tombstone again. The wedding takes place. Nash speaks with the maid about a letter Laura sent. She never returned home after that letter was received. Marian moves to Blackwater. It seems that Anne’s daughter visits and asks about Anne. Something stirs Marian. She finds Laura downstairs. Laura admits that the trip was wonderful. Fosco speaks with Marian once again. She is introduced to his wife. Laura manages to break away from Glyde. She tells Marian all about her trip. They speak about Walter and where he could be. During dinner, Fosco and Glyde get into a bit of an argument. Fosco continues flirting with Marian, before he joins Glyde outside for a drink.

The following day, Marian finds a wounded dog. She is told that would be Baxter’s doing. Baxter is the keeper. Marian speaks with another woman. She admits that the dog belonged to the woman there before. It was Anne’s mother. Anne’s mother came looking for Anne. Glyde asks Laura if she is happy there. She admits she is. He gets sexual with her. Laura shows no emotion. He tells her about later business.

The Woman In White Review

This episode of The Woman In White was okay. However, I am beginning to think that three episodes would have been enough. The story is starting to drag on a bit too long in some areas. Nevertheless, it is still very intriguing. There is something shady going on under the surface, but I am still not sure what is going on. The mystery is unraveling slowly. I am eager to find out what happens. This episode scores a 6.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of The Woman In White right now!
