The Wives Series 1 Episode 4 Recap

the wives episode 3 sky

As the fourth episode of The Wives begins, Luca Vella (Louis Boyer) says he heard they were in trouble so they can as quickly as they could. Mateo is with him. Beth (Jo Joyner) doesn’t want to get into the back of a van and Natasha (Angela Griffin) agrees. However, Sylvie (Tamzin Outhwaite) says he’s going to go with Luca. Sylvie says she needs to think. In private, Natasha asks Beth how they knew where they were. Luca stops the vehicle and asks Sylvie to talk to him. She asks how he knew where they were. Luca explains the bar manager called him and said they were holding some British women in the Golden Fork. Luca knew Vinay Taneja would be involved so he brought Mateo. He warns her that she doesn’t know what Vinay is capable of. Sylvie wonders what he’s capable of.

Beth begins to worry since Jack has called her three times in a row. Natasha suspects he just wants cash. Beth has a feeling that Luca is involved in this somehow. They get a message from Sylvie asking to meet. Sylvie tells them what he said. They discuss the situation and whether one of their husbands helped pay for Annabelle’s death certificate. Beth doesn’t think their husbands are involved. She takes a call from Jack. Natasha says there’s only one way to find out who killed Annabelle. After the intro, Natasha and Sylvie talk about Sean possibly being involved. Jack tells Beth that it’s different than family holidays. After the call, Beth interrupts the women to say this has to stop. She hasn’t been there for Jack because they’re running around playing detectives. Natasha doesn’t want to give up though. They lie to Beth and claim they’re going to stop the whole thing. Sylvie convinces Beth to plan something for her birthday.

In the morning, Beth joins Jade (Katie Clarkson-Hill) outside. She apologizes if she gave the impression she didn’t want her around. Natasha tries to get in touch with Sean (Jonathan Forbes) who doesn’t answer. She looks at Luca’s business card. Beth talks to Sky (Catriona Chandler), Jade, and the others about the bakery. She says she could use some help if they don’t have plans. Next, Jade and Sky try to escape only for Beth to stop them. She wants help with the decorations. Natasha and Sylvie discuss the fact that Frankie, Tom, and Sean were supposed to be together at the tennis club when Annabelle disappeared. Natasha suggests they could be lying because the boys would do anything for each other. The whole alibi could be a lie. They go to the tennis club to see if they can look at the CCTV. The receptionist refuses to help them.

As they leave, the women find out that Jade is there although she was supposed to be with Beth. Jade claims they finished before asking them not to tell Beth she’s there. Natasha and Sylvie agree to maintain her secret if she helps them in return. They want her to help them get into the security office. Jade distracts the receptionist, Maria, while Sylvie and Natasha sneak through. Sylvie and Natasha make it to the security office, but they can’t guess the password. They manage to guess it. They copy the videos to a USB drive before leaving in a hurry. Outside, Natasha says they should be able to use the videos to see if the alibi stands up. Jade joins them and agrees to have a drink with them. Sky gets bored. Jade asks what Charlie and Annabelle were like together. They talk about it briefly before trying to play tennis. Sky confronts Jade when she returns.

She admits she’s a little relieved to be seeing her. Before they watch the videos in private, Natasha says she isn’t sure she can do it. Then, she confesses she has something she needs to tell Sylvie. It’s about Sean and Annabelle. Natasha explains that Annabelle lent them a lot of money. They arranged to pay her back in installments. Natasha thought it had gone away. She heard Sean raging on the phone and learned Annabelle had asked them to repay the money before they had planned to do so. Sean said he was going to go and sort it out somehow. The next thing, Annabelle disappeared. Natasha believes they’re about to see that Sean had the opportunity. They begin watching the videos. It’s confirmed the men arrived and left exactly when they said they did. Natasha still feels like Annabelle might be alive if they had paid her back on time.

OceanMagic22 messages Sky to say he knows what happened to her mom. Natasha decides to call Luca in the middle of the night. In the morning, Sylvie gets a birthday card and a message from Tom. Sky surprises her with flowers. Natasha calls Luca to say she’ll look after his bag. He says he’ll send her where to meet today even though it’s Sylvie’s birthday. Natasha meets Luca who gives her strawberries and tells her happy birthday. She doesn’t seem to remember telling him about her birthday. Natasha says she needs a break from this. She admits it has little to do with what happened the other day. Jade and Sky talk about Beth’s book. Sky admits she doesn’t think it’ll be any good. Sylvie tells Natasha what she told Luca. They discuss the message from Tom. When Natasha gets a message, she says she needs to go into town to get something for Beth.

She meets Luca to get the bag. Luca asks her to keep it safe until he needs it back. He gives her 10% now and will give her the rest later. Luca insists he isn’t the type of man she thinks and he doesn’t want to see Sylvie hurt. Natasha leaves with the bag. She looks inside and sees a bunch of poker chips. Natasha can’t get in touch with Sean so she gets upset. Sylvie approaches her to make sure they’re going to be alright tonight. Natasha ends up leaving the bag in the car. Jade asks Sky if she’s okay while she’s looking at OceanMagic22’s messages. Next, Jade enters Natasha’s room and sees the board. She finds out what they’ve been doing. Jade promises not to tell Charlie. They join Beth and Sky for the party. Sylvie gives a quick speech. She admits she thought about not coming this year. Beth says she’s not going to take people for granted anymore.

Jade says she’ll take Sky back because she’s exhausted. The others go to the Pink Flamingo. Once Sky is alone, she gets a message from OceanMagic22 saying they should meet. Beth doesn’t like the club. She gets a message from Jack who says it’s fine. Later, Jade arrives and says the DJ has agreed to play something they can actually dance to. Jade doesn’t drink. As they party, it is mentioned that Sylvie and Charlie have been together. Jade laughs at the idea that she didn’t know. When they return, Beth believes she’s going to be ill. Natasha reminds Sylvie of the backdoor at the tennis club. Jade tries to get Sky up for breakfast. In the CCTV video, Tom is shown leaving and returning 45 minutes later. Sylvie messages him to say she knows he’s lying. They tell Beth.

The men have all been lying. The men return. Beth quickly says she is back in on the investigation. Jade rushes down to tell Charlie (Jamie Bamber) that Sky is missing.

The Wives Review

The fourth episode of The Wives certainly wasn’t the most fulfilling episode considering how little it achieved. Instead, it was a filler episode that primarily focused on the women’s relationships. There were many scenes that went nowhere and they were mostly obnoxious. For instance, the visit to the tennis club was obviously lame and lasted way too long.

The same can be said about the party and the visit to the club. This series likely never needed to be six episodes and could’ve been four or maybe even three. It’s also very predictable. In this episode, it was easy to predict that Sky would go missing and we can almost guarantee that the bag is going to disappear too.

It will be interesting to see who Sky actually met though. Besides a few bits though, this episode could be ignored without missing anything important. The series isn’t perfect by any means, but it remains a brainless watch. The episode scores a 4.5 out of 10. Recaps of The Wives can be found on Reel Mockery here.
