La Paradis Pour Toi – Episode 4 begins with Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) standing by helplessly as Marion Genet (Anne Charrier) readies her troops to raid the nest. Her plans are revealed when a van with a mounted machine gun pulls up to a large gathering of resistance members and mows them down. While the dead are injected with some type of serum and transform into Walkers, Carol uses the distraction to steal the small miniature 4×4 universal vehicle and race towards the entrance of the Nest. With Stephane Codron (Romain Levi) affixed to the rear of the vehicle, it doesn’t take long before the undead follow in pursuit.
As Carol races to the entrance, one of Genet’s followers launches a mortar attack that provides the opening she needs to drive into the Nest. That attack, however, also puts the guards on high alert, so now things are tricky. Despite that, both she and Stephane will make it inside unharmed. As Carol works to free Stephane, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) does much of the same after escaping his restraints. Both Carol and Daryl have to fight their way to each other but it is merely minutes later when they are happily reunited. The feel-good moment is gone the second Daryl finds Isabelle Carriere (Clemence Poesy) dying. He gets a final few moments with her but she spends most of that making him promise to look after Laurent Carriere (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi).
As Carol and Daryl work their way to Laurent, Losang (Joel De La Fuente) continues to fight the resistance. By the time Daryl arrives at the rendezvous point to find Laurent gone, Gent convinces Losang to surrender. The search appears to have calmed Daryl a bit and Carol carefully attempts to learn more about his situation, Isabelle, and Laurent. In turn, she tells him about Ash Patel (Manish Dayal), Stephane, and the plane awaiting their return.
Gent briefly questions Losang and Jacinta (Nassima Benchicou) about Laurent, but it doesn’t take her long to realize they aren’t going to share anything. In the process, they will also learn about Isabelle’s death.
Daryl and Carol pick up a trail that leads them to a small house where Didi (Marie-Christine Adam) and Theo (Francois-Eric Gendron) are on the lower level having dinner. Both Carol and Daryl are nearly left speechless when they interrupt Didi and Theo’s dinner to learn that they were expecting their arrival, although they incorrectly assume Carol is Isabelle. Theo will explain encountering Laurent and Fallou Boukar (Eriq Ebouaney) one day during a foraging trip. He also tells them that the two left in a vehicle that he helped them find. He promises to do the same for them in the morning.
Theo and Daryl spend the morning evaluating the vehicles while Carol and Didi prep dinner. Under the impression that Carol is Isabelle, Didi tells her that Laurent couldn’t stop raving about Daryl. He also suspects Daryl loves her (Isabelle) but is afraid to admit it because it will stop him from leaving. Shortly after this, Theo and Daryl interrupt. As it turns out, Theo has quite a few old vehicles but none are fully operable. The closest one is apparently missing a battery.
While in town looking for a battery, Theo tells Daryl and Carol about their unusual custom of not burying their, but locking them in their homes and letting them roam. In addition, Theo introduces them to his brother, which is where they get the replacement parts. When Theo goes in first to speak with his brother, it becomes clear that a rift is developing between Carol and Daryl over returning home and caring for Laurent.
This escalates during the battery installation when Daryl snaps at her for giving the car too much gas. Although Theo jokes about the two arguing like an old couple, they don’t get long to further argue it out thanks to a Jeep coming up the road. Daryl and Carol hide while Theo and Didi give them supplies. Later that evening, Carol admits to being surprised by the relationship he developed with Isabelle and Laurent. She also gives him a small figurine that Judith made for him.
Daryl and Carol wake early the next morning to get a jumpstart on their trip but are sidelined by Theo’s insistence that they stay for a special breakfast Didi has prepared. It doesn’t take Daryl or Carol long to realize Theo has set them up when one of Genet’s vehicles comes rolling into the driveway. Didi is not only just as stunned as they are by the betrayal but gives Carol and Daryl the shotgun Theo had pulled on them and whisks them off to the cellar to hide.
As it turns out Genet has accompanied her men on this very special raid and it doesn’t take her long to realize that Theo and Didi are hiding Daryl and Carol. Before things go completely bad inside, Daryl and Carol have started making their way to the vehicle. They will intervene when they see Genet and her men are about to attack Didi and Theo. A brief shootout will ensue and abruptly end with Carol being held at gunpoint in the house. Genet makes the classic mistake of justifying why she does what she does, allowing Daryl to intervene and kill her two guards. Once alone, Carol will shoot her with her own serum and she’ll die.
Theo doesn’t come out so lucky from the skirmish as it is soon revealed that Didi must have caught a stray bullet and died. Before they leave that evening they will bury her and Daryl attempts to explain the connection he formed with Isabelle and Laurent. The episode will end with Losang taking charge of Genet’s resistance movement.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon The Book Of Carol Review
Despite my earlier raging on the series, I am glad I stuck around for this episode. This was by no means a great one but it heads and tails about any I’ve seen from season 2 yet. I really enjoyed the old-timey feel of the village and Theo’s carefree attitude. He was just a decent guy caught in a bad situation, as are most people during this time. The fact that the episode ended with Losang taking control of Genet’s resistance movement, indicates rough waters are only about to get rougher. I’d have to give this episode a 5.4 out of 10.
