The episode opens one year later with Beth Fairchild (Annabel Scholey) looking at herself in the mirror. Clover (Julie Graham) puts her bridal veil on. Beth confirms she is sure it is the right decision. Later, DI Aline Edgeworth (Angela Griffin) informs Beth that officers are stationed inside and around the perimeter in case Tom Fairchild (Jack Farthing) makes an unexpected appearance. DS Mike Pearson (Benjamin O’Mahony) says another sighting of Tom has been reported. Inside, Beth joins Adam Plummer (Luke Treadway) at the altar. A priest officiates the wedding.

Beth, Adam, Poppy Fairchild (Eben Figueiredo), and Jess Plummer (Freya Duffy-Allain) emerge from the church to a round of applause and cheers. Maxwell Collins (Hari Dhillon) gathers them together for a family photo. Later, Beth returns to the house to find Tom there.

One Day Earlier – Beth thinks of Tom choking her while having sex with Adam. She apologizes for allowing him to enter her mind. He assures her that they will get through it together. Later, Adam receives another offer on his home. She tells him that Maxwell and Jules (Morgana Robinson) are officially divorced. He had no idea a divorce was possible when the man or woman was absent. Beth says they should look at Jules and Maxwell’s home. Initially, he is against the idea but reluctantly agrees to consider it.

Upon leaving Mrs. Fairchilds Tea Rooms, Beth encounters Jules. After a short conversation, Jules claims Marnie got pregnant with Jess while having an affair with Tom. She says Poppy and Jess are biological sisters. Jules stresses the need to keep it from Adam. Later, Beth is sitting in a pew at the church when Tom grabs her from behind. He promises to not hurt her if she doesn’t scream. He denies killing Katy Asquith (Livvie May) and Phoebe. He shows her the time stamp on a video that was uploaded after his arrest, Katy and Marnie died. He points out that his phone was not utilized to make the video, it was uploaded by someone.

Beth visits Adam’s house where she finds a locked box with a laptop, a photo album, and what appears to be a recorder. The laptop has videos of Marnie gasping for breath. Leaning over her, Adam asks where is her doctor. A DNA report reveals no match with Adam. She finds an album packed with images of deceased women. She breaks down in a frantic sob.

Beth texts someone to meet her on the cliffs. She utilizes the excuse to speak with the staff to get away. Adam tries to encourage her to wait till later but she insists it is important. He watches her get into the car with a bag. On the cliff, Tom hears a helicopter swirling above. He tries to flee but officers take him down. When she returns later, Adam asks where she has been. She claims to have gone to the venue. He says Tom has been apprehended. She admits to turning Tom in. He says they will no longer need to look over their shoulders. She ignores an incoming phone call. At the police station, Tom tries to call Beth.

Adam tells Beth about his mum’s many affairs. He complains about everything being about Tom when they were young. He says girls were always so willing to be with Tom which is what got them killed. He claims to feel guilty about not doing something to save them. Beth tells him that his guilt lies in the fact that he killed the girls before shoving him over the cliff.

Superintendent Garland (Tim Daish) congratulates Aline for nabbing Tom. Aline asks Pearson if a woman called in the anonymous tip. Later, she recalls talking to Anneka about The Vault and Beth saying she and Tom met at The Vault. She visits The Vault.

Beth visits Tom in jail. She admits to breaking his phone when she found it. She says Adam repaired it. She claims he killed Marnie, Katy, Ella, and Phoebe. She tells him about Adam’s collection of photos of dead women. He asks why she hasn’t turned the evidence into the police. She says Adam knew Tom was Jess’s biological father Tom argues that what Adam did is unforgivable. Beth describes his assault on women as “sick” before claims to have destroyed the evidence. She says it was destroyed. In a flashback, Beth burns Adam’s laptop and photos. He tells her that he trusted her with his phone. She refuses to let Jess and Poppy grow up with fathers like them. He pleads with her to not leave him as she walks toward the exit.

While setting the table, Beth lays a ring on top of a phone near a placement. She takes a few bites of her food, removes her shoes, leans back, and reports Adam missing. The episode ends.

The Serial Killer’s Wife Review

Beth finds Adam’s stash of evidence that validates he is the serial killer. A video shows Marnie begging for her EpiPen. Adam refuses to give it to her. Adam found out that Marnie was having an affair with Tom when she got pregnant with Jess. A DNA report reveals he is not Jess’ biological father.

Knowing Adam killed Marnie, Phoebe, Ella, and Katy, Beth still marries Adam. She lures him to the cliff to confront him about her findings. He expresses animosity toward Tom and the girl who made themselves readily available to him. She accuses him of killing the girls before shoving him over a cliff.

Beth lures Tom to the cliff under the premise that she needs to show him something. Aline and Pearson show upin instead of her. She later visits him in jail to tell him about the evidence in Adam’s house. He urges her to turn it over to the police but she claims to have burnt it. She refuses to let him or Adam near Jess and Poppy.

Aline initiates an investigation into Beth after recalling she met Tom at The Vault.

A very weak, dull finale. Annabel Scholey’s performance is not always believable. One example is when she discovers Adam’s stash of videos and photos. It wouldn’t be fair to fully blame her when the script is poorly written, shallow, and packed with every cliché imaginable.

Beth may not be the serial killer but she is just as evil and nasty as Tom and Adam.

The finale plays out with the assurance of a season 2. Plot twists that are supposed to have jaw-dropping effects barely get a response.
