Oh my! Dragons beneath the Earth’s surface are on the verge of awaking and bring chaos to the world. Will Flynn (Noah Wyle) return and help the crew discover the dragon’s hidden treasures?
The show opens near Mount Fuji, Japan, where Akemi (Natusko Abrams) and Haruki (Kei Sugimoto) are searching for treasure. However, they fall and hear the growls of an unruly beast. Meanwhile, Eve Baird (Rebecca Romijn) and crew investigate weird weather patterns. Flynn Carsen arrives and warns them it is the dragons! He reveals the earthquakes are being caused by dragons. Jenkins (John Larroquette) lays down a little hip-hop knowledge, while explaining it is impossible to reason with dragons.
Eve and Flynn quickly face friction, as Flynn attempts to regain a leadership role over the group. Before they can finish the conversation, Ezekiel Jones (John Kim) lets Mr. Drake (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) into the library, which turns out to be a mistake. Mr. Drake has come to negotiate with the Librarians. The team must recover or steal a piece of treasure, which is valuable to the dragons. Of course, they’re going to have to do it, without their expert thief, Ezekiel, who is stuck with Mr. Drake and a massive list of dragon grievances.
Flynn leads the group through the town, as he blindly searches for the entrance to the dragon’s lair. Of course, this is where Cassandra Cillian’s (Lindy Booth) brilliant mind comes into play. Without considering the consequences, Jake (Christian Kane), Eve and Cass follow Flynn into the dragon’s lair, which is rigged with booty traps. Jake manages to solve the riddle, but his eyes turn red, as if he has been possessed.
Meanwhile, Ezekiel and Jenkins are joined by Lady Sililandria (Naia Schroder) and several other leaders of their kingdoms, in order to give their concerns. Next, the group speaks with the dragon, before following stone, who has turned bad. Cassandra picks up the pearl, which turns her into a psycho as well. Next, Dulaque (Matt Frewer) pays Jenkins and Ezekiel a visit and Cassandra runs into Lamia (Lesley-Ann Brandt).
Dulaque attempts to turn the leaders against Ezekiel. Meanwhile, Flynn speaks with Jakes and reveals the jewel is actually the Apple of Discord. While the team search for Cassandra, she dispatches her rival, Lamia. Next, Jenkins attempts to leave the library, but is belittled by Ezekiel. Next, Cass plans an attack on Rome!
After a break, Dulaque moves to remove Ezekiel from the library, but Jenkins enters and puts a stop to his plans. Next, the group confronts Cassandra and attempts to stop her. After they recover the Apple from her, Cassandra is shocked by her appearance. Eve and Flynn grab the apple at the same time and instantly begin fighting, but Eve puts him down easily, before being tackled by Lamia. Flynn takes control over the apple and nearly kills Lamia.
Before the break, Dulaque moves to vote to remove the Library. Flynn, who has transformed into a menace, returns to the library. He is followed by the other librarians, but he immediately locks them out. Flynn begins insulting the leaders, which makes Dulaque think he is ill. With his skillful hands, Ezekiel removes the apple from Flynn, who instantly returns to normal and pleads with the leaders to vote to keep the Library in tact. As it turns out, Ezekiel is immune to the Apple’s curse, since he is already the worst version of himself.
After the leaders vote to keep the Library, Ezekiel calls out Mr. Drake for stealing the Apple in the first place. At the end of the episode, Flynn agrees to stay, if Eve does. However, she denies his offer and sends him back out to finish his mission, before they share a kiss.
Review
All in all, this episode of The Librarians was okay and nothing special. It was fun to watch the good girl Cassandra turn into a little deviant, but much of the episode felt like lame jokes and cheesy, ridiculous antics. If the show would slow down a little on childish clutter, it would be much more enjoyable. The show will peak some viewer’s interests, while it will grate on the nerves of others. This episode deserves a 6 out of 10.
