For My Son – As this episode of The Cleaning Lady begins, Thony (Elodie Yung) washes Luca before taking him to the hospital. She thinks she should be in the room with Luca since she’s a doctor. She is told why she can’t be in the room with her son. After today, they will do a home assessment and random wellness checks. Then, a judge will decide if Luca can stay with Thony. Susan (Rekha Sharma) admits they always prefer that a child stay with a parent. Fiona could really help Thony’s case. Thony still isn’t allowed in the room because her rights are under review. Later, Thony tells Fiona (Martha Millan) that CPS put Luca in the system and they’re going to have a custody hearing within a week.
Fiona reassures her that she will not lose Luca. She says Paolo spoke to some of his turo turo friends and they’re staying at Tay’s family’s place now. She hopes no vigilantes will find them. If they do, she is worried about what Chris will do to protect her. Thony has already contacted someone who might be able to find her back. Thony admits she shouldn’t have left Arman. She tells Fiona to stay safe and she’ll get back in touch when she’s worked things out. After the call, Luca asks Thony to not let that lady take him again. Thony insists she won’t let anything happen to him. Samentha heard Luca has a new toy to show her. Samentha (Jenelle Baptiste) arrives to watch Luca. Fiona catches up with Chris (Sean Lew) because she wants to tell him something.
Chris is busy listening to Ruby sing. Then, Thony goes to Angel (Kenneth Miller) to see if he can get her in touch with the cartel again. They want to know who Sin Cara is. They grab her and point a gun at her before Angel questions what she means to the cartel. They eventually let her go and tell her not to come back. When Thony makes it back, she is surprised to see Ramona (Kate del Castillo) with Luca. They talk in private since Ramona knows Thony wants to see her. Ramona is still trying to figure out how Thony fits into Armando’s life. She insists they will find him. If he is being held captive, he’d be more valuable. Ramona says Armando is her family. They were close until Eduardo ripped them apart. Thony explains her sister-in-law got deported to the Philippines and she needs her back with her son.
Ramona says she has a lot of nerve asking for passage on the routes she compromised. The only person Ramona is worried about bringing him safely is her nephew. Thony says she can make anything disappear. Ramona might have something coming up for Thony to clean. Fiona speaks to Paolo and others. Chris joins them moments later. He becomes suspicious about Paolo and Fiona’s relationship. Nadia (Eva De Dominici) tries to find out where Armando is. When Fiona catches up with Chris, he asks her if that guy is his dad. He complains that she pretended she didn’t even know him. Fiona admits she lied because she was embarrassed. Thony is picked up for the job.
She talks to Jorge about never getting to meet his daughter. When Thony first met Arman, she thought he was going to kill her. If they hadn’t met, Thony’s son wouldn’t be alive today. Jorge asks what Luca’s father had to say about that. Thony reveals he passed away a few months ago. They talk about losing someone and how difficult it is. Fiona speaks to Lola and Lolo about Paolo being Chris’s father. Fiona only knows that she was on her own and had to give her baby the best life she could. It wasn’t going to be there. They tell her she raised a great son. Fiona thinks she should call Thony. Once she gets in touch with Thony, she is told that everything is almost sorted out. Fiona will be flying to Mexico in one day or two. Fiona isn’t sure it’s possible because Chris took off and has been gone all night.
Thony urges her to figure it out because they cannot push the flight back. Jorge tells her they’re going to clean up the mess she made. Thony is told she’s the reason Angel and the others are dead. She doesn’t want to clean it up. He reminds her that she wanted to work for her sister’s passage and this is the job. After Jorge takes a call, he asks Thony if she said anything about them to Nadia. Thony says she knows nothing. He tells her to keep it that way and get rid of it all. Nadia goes to the station to report a missing person. When she receives a call, she rushes out of the police station. Paolo sees Chris and invites him over. He takes Chris in the back to show him how to cook. Paolo tells Chris not to be mad at his mom. Too many others are too scared to do what she did.
Paolo tells him about malasakit which is a Filipino thing where you put the needs of others before your own. He insists Fiona is full of it. Paolo admits he was a mess back then so they met at the right time. Fiona listens to them from a distance before joining them. Jorge approaches Nadia who is looking at the body. He tells her she’ll never find him this way before describing himself as a friend of the family. Jorge urges her to stop asking questions about Arman. Nadia promises not to say another word, but she wants to know if he is still alive. Jorge warns her when they meet next time it won’t be as a friend. Thony cleans up the crime scene. Midway through, she hears police officers arrive outside. Jorge picks up Violeta from school. He is surprised to see Thony who says she almost got caught.
A school worker briefly speaks to Jorge before he tells Thony she needs to leave. She insists she is not going to do this again. Thony complains about Ramona coming to her home and threatening her kid. Jorge tells her not to come near his daughter again.
Jorge accuses Ramona of exposing him to Thony while he was convincing Nadia to not expose her. She says it was an opportunity for them to get better acquainted. He asks if it was necessary to tell her about Violeta because she turned up at her school covered in blood. He says Thony’s son, Luca is sick, her husband dead, and her family in the Philippines were attacked. She claims to have it under control. He believes the best place for erratic Thony is a grave in the desert. She warns against harming Thony for fear of what Arman would do if he found out. Jorge reminds her that they stole from them and got their people killed. She says Arman had no idea it was their routes that he was using and it was Eduardo who turned his back on them. She assures him that he will remember the bond they shared when Arman returns. He disagrees.
Jorge gives Thony Chris and Fiona’s travel details from Manila to the U.S. She asks if her debt is cleared. He warns against defaulting on her debt. Informing him of her impending custody hearing, she voices concern about having Luca taken away. Refusing to budge on their deal, he urges her to be grateful that she is still alive. After he leaves, she calls Fiona to inform her that their flight is scheduled for tonight. When the call ends, Fiona tells Lola, Lolo, Paolo, and Chris that they are leaving tonight. Paolo gives Chris a gift to open at home. Before leaving for the airport, Chris opens Paolo’s gift to find a wad of cash and a note that reads, “It’s for my son.”
Nadia tells Thony about her encounter with Jorge (she doesn’t know his name at this point). She says he is the cartel and demanded she stop asking questions about Arman. Thony warns her against telling anyone. Nadia suggests Arman is being held by the cartel. Thony refuses to get involved for fear of getting killed. Nadia questions if Thony is hiding something from her. Thony assures her that she wants to find Arman but needs to protect her family. Later, Nadia calls ASAC Katherine Russo (Liza Well) as the episode ends.
The Cleaning Lady Review
This episode of The Cleaning Lady was okay although the series has become very formulaic. The story is lifeless with a few cheap scares thrown in to try to keep things interesting. The soundtrack and sound effects aren’t particularly good with the songs being downright annoying. The Cleaning Lady has taken on a low-budget feel so Fox must be skimping on the show at this point.
It’s easy to see why Fox would do that considering the ratings are a third of what they were when the show first aired. Nothing about it warranted another season and it definitely doesn’t need a fourth. The series should’ve gone away with the passing Adan Canto. It’s a bit humorous to see these wealthy individuals overplay the plight of immigrants while doing better than most immigrants and Americans.
The fact they’ve done so well makes the show seem hypocritical to say the least. This episode scores a 4 out of 10. The Cleaning Lady recaps can be found on Reel Mockery here.
