As the fourth episode of Territory begins, Emily (Anna Torv) tells Graham (Michael Dorman) that Hank claims to know nothing about the saddle. Graham wants to know if she married him to get the station. Emily curses him. Graham pleads with her to get him out of there. Emily warns him he won’t get out if he isn’t careful. Marshall (Sam Corlett) and Sharnie (Kylah Day) find out that the crew from the meat works found their camp. Marshall suspects Rich (Sam Delich) told them where they were staying. They leave in a hurry because they don’t want to find out who they’re working for. Marshall wants to go to Queensland. Sharnie believes they didn’t even try to fight for Rich. Marshall confesses he loves her and always wanted to be there for her. Sharnie begins hitting him causing him to crash the vehicle they’re in. Emily goes to Bethel Creek Station.
Susie (Philippa Northeast) tries to convince Colin (Robert Taylor) to help get Graham released. Colin says he told them to throw the book at him. Susie says he’ll die in there. Colin asks why she’s still there. Susie argues this is her home. She tells him about the bulls she bought and how their DNA is going to fix the herd. Nolan (Clarence Ryan) confronts Uncle Bryce (Hamilton Morris) and accuses him of torching his vehicle. Uncle tells Dezi that he can’t go burning other people’s cars. Uncle Bryce makes the other men flog Dezi. Keeley Redford (Tuuli Narkle) comes over and Nolan says he doesn’t want Dezi (Tyler Spencer) punished like that. Nolan says Sandra is there. He asks Keeley what deal she’s doing. Marshall and Sharnie are okay after the crash. They see a helicopter overhead. Marshall wants to shoot it. He says it’s a spotter so they need to get out of there. Nolan calls Sandra to complain that the weaners aren’t even close to 300 kilos.
He says she squeezed him on the contract and he’s right on the margin. Sandra Kirby (Sara Wiseman) reminds him that he’s getting a port out of this. She won’t tell him what she’s doing with the TOs. Graham goes to his cell. His cellmate asks him what he’s in for. He claims it’s not so bad. Marshall and Sharnie make it to the cave. They see multiple vehicles driving nearby. Emily tells Hank Hodge (Dan Wyllie) she’s not going to walk away from Marianne Station now. She just needs a plan. Emily questions why the Traditional Owners would say the saddle came from his place. Hank insists he would’ve returned it. Emily says someone played this trick on them. Hank says it was found in Elton’s country. She tells Emily how to find him. Sandra tells Lachie (Joe Klocek) they’re one step closer to closing an important deal. He tells her that he’s seeing Susie. They talk about Colin who is supposedly destroying himself. Lachie mentions that Susie will take over.
Sharnie tells Marshall that many people would kill to have what he’s trying to get away from. Marshall doesn’t like being treated a certain way just because he’s a Lawson. When he met Sharnie and Rich, he felt like all of that was gone. Sharnie says her dad left when she was seven. Everyone had jobs. When her sister got engaged to a brickies laborer, he mom told her she was next. She thinks he felt they could be more when they saw each other. They end up kissing. Marshall gives her a necklace that belonged to his mom. Dezi continues working with Nolan. Seconds later, Nolan finds out that Tex is going to kill a calf that was abandoned by its mother. Nolan gives it to Dezi because he caused its mother to reject it. Dezi doesn’t want to shoot it so he has to care for it. Graham’s cellmate reads to him. In the morning, Marshall and Sharnie find skeletal remains in the cave. She says it’s a family group and it was a massacre.
Sharnie gets upset that the bones were buried. They hear people approaching. Marshall admits there are so many of them. He says they’re going to have to fight. Bullets begin flying. During the chaos, Marshall gets a phone and calls Emily for help. Emily gets a helicopter. When Marshall sees Campbell Miller (Jay Ryan), he realizes it was his operation all this time. He says they’re going to run for it. Emily sees Campbell from the helicopter. Campbell tells his men to stop firing before Sharnie is shot. She falls. Marshall is shot in the leg. Campbell tells Emily he is just protecting his interest. She argues he’s trying to kill kids. Marshall gets into the helicopter. Campbell insists he was doing her a favor. Emily thought he had gone legit. Campbell admits he wants her and the station. Emily wants the station to be with her family. Campbell tells her the girl is still alive.
Emily tells him to patch her up and send her back to Queensland. She doesn’t want the girl anywhere near Marshall. If they stole Lawson cattle, she wants them back. Marshall is taken back to the house for treatment. Emily refuses to tell Colin who shot him. She can’t promise Marshall will stay. When Sharnie wakes up in a hospital, Campbell tells her she’s lucky to be alive. He gives her money. Sharnie asks about Marshall. Campbell claims he went back to his family and never came back for her. Colin speaks to Marshall at Marianne Station. Marshall believes this is the place where Sharnie died. He asks about the cave containing the skulls. Colin insists he doesn’t know who killed them. He saw them once when he was Marshall’s age and he never went back. Colin knows you can’t change a person. If Marshall doesn’t want to be there, he should go. Marshall says he’s in.
Graham returns to his cell after being assaulted. His cellmate asks if he hit rock bottom. He tells Graham that he’s got a long way to go. He believes Graham will stay on the wagon and fall off again until he works out the stuff with his old man. He doesn’t know a single alcoholic who didn’t have a bad father. Susie asks Emily if Graham knows about Marshall. Emily isn’t going to see him again. It’s up to Susie whether she should. Lachie tells Sandra he’s going to Marianne Station to help Susie. Sandra thinks Susie is perfect for him if she can shake off her family’s history. Colin tells Susie that she overpaid. He soon learns that Lachie is coming to help her. Lachie says hello to Colin who gives them tips. Emily goes to the cave where Daniel’s memorial is. Graham learns that his cellmate is using hand wash to get drunk. Graham eventually gets mad at him and pours it out.
They fight briefly. The cellmate lies on the ground and tells Graham that he’s just like him. Graham denies it. Nolan finds out that Dezi hasn’t been caring for the calf so he threatens to shoot it. Dezi explains he’s been feeding it using a beer bottle. Nolan urges him to stop sleeping on the job. Susie and Lachie talk about their relationship. Lachie says Sandra admires Susie for rising above her station. Susie claims she’s not a Hodge. Lachie tells her what his mom said. She doesn’t like that he discussed this with his mom. Lachie thinks it’s smart for Sandra to take an interest in this. Susie claims she’s the guarantee. She says they don’t get it because they only buy and sell land. Lachie asks if she knows who her family is. Susie says she knows who she is. Susie is already seeing who Lachie is. She decides to go home. Elton finds Emily who says why he has Daniel’s horse. Emily questions whether he knows what happened.
Elton admits he saw everything and who did it. He claims it was Emily.
Territory Review
The fourth episode of Territory had some fun moments although they weren’t really believable. We still haven’t seen a police officer despite one of the main characters being in jail. I don’t think we’ve even seen any prison guards or inmates besides Graham’s cellmate. The lack of extras really makes the whole thing feel low-budget and low-effort.
The episode also took a hit because of Sharnie’s actions. When Marshall said he loved her, she got upset and started hitting him causing him to crash their getaway truck. However, she was entirely fine with Marshall loving her moments later. She should’ve come to her senses before causing them to become stranded while on the run from Campbell’s posse.
Territory is really just a soap opera with family dramas, relationships, and so on. It’s hard to care about any of the characters so those shootout scenes really don’t seem to matter. Any of these characters could die and no one is going to shed a tear. On the plus side, there is potential with Dezi and the calf he’s been caring for. That was a good touch, but the calf shouldn’t really be the most likable character in the series.
The episode scores a 5 out of 10. Recaps of Territory can be found here. Learn more about supporting our independent site here. Find out about advertising with us here. See what others are saying here.
