As the second episode of Territory begins, the mystery man walks with Daniel’s horse. Graham Lawson (Michael Dorman) thanks his brother and says it’s his time now. Emily Lawson (Anna Torv) tells Susie (Philippa Northeast) that she’ll have to start at the bottom if she’s going to stay. Graham tells Emily that the Cattlemen’s Federation is voting in a new president. He believes they have only been staying afloat because Dan was the president. If anyone else gets the presidency, they’ll bleed them. At Laggan Downs, Nolan and another man talk about finding another contracting job. Colin (Robert Taylor) calls Kyle McKenzie (Simon Butt) to say he has a job for him. He asks Kyle to find his grandson, Marshall (Sam Corlett). Graham tells Colin he’s going for the Cattlemen’s presidency. He believes they’ll give it to him with Colin’s backing. Marshall hangs out with Sharnie Kennedy (Kylah Day) in the helicopter. They collect crocodile eggs so they can sell them.
Emily speaks to Ethan Hodge (Conor Merrigan Turner) briefly. She goes inside to look for Hank (Dan Wyllie). Paul (Barrie Cotton) offers four grand for the crocodile eggs. Rich Petrakis (Sam Delich) finishes a call just before Sharnie and Marshall return. Rich tells them they have a real job and they’re going to get some bulls. They’re going to go to Two Tree Station. Emily asks Hank for help finding Marshall. Emily doesn’t want to help him rebrand stolen cattle. While she helps, she tells Ethan about the Stock Act and how it can lead to legal theft. Keeley Redford (Tuuli Narkle) speaks to Nolan (Clarence Ryan). They talk about the situation at Marianne Station. Keeley says the traditional owners haven’t seen their share of profit. Uncle Bryce (Hamilton Morris) suggests Nolan has their money. Nolan insists he did his job. He says the lawyers need to divide the money up fairly between the families in the communities and that takes time.
Keeley wants him to take Dezi since they have an apprenticeship with Laggan Downs. Dezi (Tyler Spencer) doesn’t want to go with him. Hank and Emily speak to a man about Marshall. They learn that the McKenzie brothers have been asking about him. Emily realizes that Colin doesn’t trust her. She wants to find Marshall before they hurt him. Bennett (Aaron Cartwright) yells at Hank who says he thinks he owes him 60 grand. Hank is told there’s a new king in town. Colin speaks to everyone at the Cattlemen’s Federation meeting. He asks everyone to support Graham so he can continue the legacy. Graham explains why they should trust him. Campbell Miller (Jay Ryan) is also running since he is the Acting President. Colin tells Graham that he needs to sway more people to vote for him. Hank is tortured while Emily tries to negotiate with Bennett. Once Bennett stops, Emily asks him if he knows Marshall or Rich.
He thinks they stole the helicopter and crocodile eggs. Bennett says they could be up around Mort Creek Station. Nolan speaks to Graham about Marshall taking off again. When Colin joins them, Nolan says he sent an invoice for his time on the muster that was canceled. Colin insists it’ll be paid. He hopes they can count on Nolan’s vote. In private, Graham says he knows that Nolan wants to become a real player here. He worries Miller is dangerous and will use the power against anyone he wants. Graham says he wouldn’t take a chance on Miller. Sandra Kirby (Sara Wiseman) is nearby while Graham continues trying to convince Nolan to vote for him. Sandra follows Graham into the bathroom where she tells him she wants to help him win today. She can get Fitzgerald and Blackford on his side. Sandra just wants Graham to keep Colin out of it. Graham refuses to do it without his father. Sandra argues he’ll never be able to fill Dan’s shoes anyway.
She leaves her alcohol behind. Graham picks it up. Hank and Emily find Marshall’s camp, but Rich comes out with a rifle. Rich holds them at gunpoint and throws away their keys. Then, he drives away in a truck. Graham ends up getting drunk. Sandra speaks to Nolan about building a port on his coastline. Graham begins making a fool of himself. Hank tells Emily she forgot where he came from. They discuss the fact that Hank is worth $40 million. Emily argues he earned his fortune by thieving. Hank tells her not to pretend she’s doing this out of the kindness of her heart. He insists she’s still a Hodge. She finds their keys. Lachie Kirby (Joe Klocek) visits Susie. He agrees to film her while she rides. Rich, Marshall, and Sharnie help with the cattle. Marshall watches Sharnie and Rich kiss from the helicopter. Susie tells Lachie that her mom isn’t impressed with anything.
Lachie believes he’s made a good matador. Susie says she wants to run the biggest station in the world. They end up kissing. Marshall tells Rich they need to unload and water the cattle. Rich begins taunting them. Rich tells Marshall to be a good boy and to do as he’s told. After a call, Rich says they’re ready for them. He climbs up and begins harassing the cattle until he falls in with them. Rich ends up getting injured. Marshall decides to call a doctor to get him some help. Hank tells Emily that Dr. Feelgood says Marshall is heading to her right now. The doctor checks on Rich who likely had broken ribs. She gives him ketamine. Nolan tells Graham he’s going to drop him off at home. Nolan and Dezi talk about the fact that the Lawsons might be done. The Cattlemen’s Federation begins voting without Graham present. Marshall and Sharnie get $16,000. Marshall is offered double for any Lawson cattle he brings in.
Hank wakes up Rich and says they’re going for a ride. Emily sends him a text and they take Rich with them. Nolan gives Dezi boots and tells him they’ll start work at 5 a.m. Marshall hangs out with Sharnie. She asks if he misses his old life. Marshall admits he’d rather be out there with her. She says the same. They kiss until a vehicle arrives. Kyle McKenzie tells Marshall it’s time to go home. Hank arrives with Rich and Emily. Emily wants Kyle to return to Colin who made a mistake sending them there. Kyle says they’re going to take the quads. Sharnie checks on Rich. Emily talks to Marshall and suggests they could make this work. She says she and Graham want to work with him. Marshall believes Colin will ruin their lives before he goes. He insists he isn’t going back. Emily urges him to be careful because some people might use him for his name. Sandra calls Emily later to say she missed some drama at the federation meeting.
They agree to meet. Susie receives messages from Lachie that night. She shows Graham the riding video. Colin takes Graham away. Susie interrupts and tries to stop them. Graham tells her it’s okay and she should go back to the house. Colin beats up Graham and whips him with his belt. Marshall tells Sharnie and Rich that he’s done with his family. They’re going to take some cattle. They realize someone has beaten them to it and they’re not from Marianne Station.
Territory Review
The second episode of Territory was okay although viewers will have to suspend reality to accept what is happening here. It doesn’t seem there is a police force at all in Australia. After all, people are pulling guns at every turn and Marshall stole a helicopter that he’s been using to steal cattle and crocodile eggs.
It’s hard to sympathize with any of the characters because there are far too many of them. As a result, a few receive the bulk of the screen time and the others may get a few minutes in each episode. The story is just too scattered and unbelievable. The pacing is pretty slow considering how little was achieved in this episode.
We still don’t even know if Graham won the vote to become the President of the Cattlemen’s Federation. That was likely deliberate as a way to try to keep viewers hanging on. On the plus side, there are only six episodes so it’ll have to reach its climax soon enough. At the very least, the series is easy to digest and requires very little from viewers.
This episode scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of Territory can be found here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising with us here. See what others are saying here.
