Big Plans – The show begins with Summer Torres (Sky Katz) nearly being hit Sheridan on her skateboard. Sheridan Morehouse (Charli Wookey) threatens to run her other if it happens again. Summer says she thought surfers were easygoing as the girl continues to walk away. When she returns to retrieve her skateboard, Sheridan intentionally backs her truck over it.
Ari Gibson (Kai Lewins) competes in a surfing competition. An encounter with Marion Sousa (Joao Marinho) during the competition interferes with his surfing.
Summer approaches Poppy Tenanui (Lilliana Bowrey) about a ride to the airport. Poppy asks her brother, Prawnie Tetanui (Cantona Stewart) if he would be willing to give her a ride. He agrees if she agrees to be ready to leave by 3pm.
Ari confronts Marion about what happened in the water. Marion assures him that he never touched him. He sarcastically suggests it was a dolphin. Marion asks why he is complaining when he made it through. As he walks away, Ari grabs his shoulder, followed by a push. Marion refuses to get into a physical altercation with him because of his injured shoulder. When he walks away, Ari charges him, sending them both to the ground. Summer asks if it is a ritual or just a stupid fight between boys. Poppy and Bodhi Mercer (Savannah La Rain) say “stupid boy fight” in unison.
Poppy walks away as Bodhi tries to encourage the guys to break it up. Manu Tetanui (Chris Alosio) must step in to stop the fight. Nico (Ilai Swindells) and Judge Roberts (Timothy Bell) approache to ask what is going on. Smiling, Marion claims they were just messing around. Manu and Ari agree. Marion leaves with Bodhi while Manu hauls Ari off for a talk. Ari admits he and Marion are no longer friends. Marion questions why he is trying to ruin his chances of getting picked for state. He informs him that he is currently running Shorehaven Boardriders and wants to bring him on, but only if he is serious.
Summer hears someone say, “That was pretty pathetic.” She looks over to see Sheridan. She approaches her to say she needs to replace her skateboard. Sheridan assures her that it wasn’t her fault because of where she left it laying. She tells her $200 will do it when Poppy interrupts. Sheridan asks if they are friends. She acknowledges they are recent friends. Griff Temple (Mitchell Hardaker) sarcastically congratulates her for making the quarters after missing last year’s finals. Summer asks Poppy about Sheridan and Griff. Identifying them as Anchor Cove Boardriders, she suggests ignoring them. When Summer suggests getting revenge, she agrees, but only in the water. Marion comments about her still being in Shorehaven.
Poppy goes up against Lily Tran, an Anchor Cove Boardrider in the finals. She rides a wave.
Marion and Summer watch Sheridan retrieve her surfboard from the back of her truck. Summer admits she is considering breaking one of her surfboards. He suggests they go for a jet ski ride instead of getting revenge. She asks about his girlfriend. He nonchalantly says, “Yeah, so.” As she is about to approach Sheridan’s truck Manu, Honey Gibson (Asmara Felk), and Thommo Gibson (Dustin Clare) approach.
Ari approaches Bodhi who appears to be recording the ocean. He compliments her well-written posts. She suggests he get some peace and quiet instead of fighting. He apologizes for his behavior. She invites him to join her. He initially refuses the offer but agrees to stay for a while.
Marion assures Summer that he understands how she feels because he was homesick after relocating here from Brazil. He asks why she would leave the beaches to return to a cold New York. She tells him the city has everything. He says she can hang out with the coolest guy in Shorehaven. They go jet skiing.
Bodhi and Ari go underwater swimming. When they surface, she tells him about seeing an octopus before asking him to follow her down. A short way down into the water, he doesn’t see her anywhere. He starts having flashbacks of his accident. She shows up as soon as he makes it back to the beach. He claims to have taken in some seawater. She asks if it has anything to do with his damaged lungs. He assures her the one that was injured is now fine. As Marion and Summer approach, she asks if he hates him after what happened. He denies hating anyone.
Summer and Ari run into Honey and Thommo on the way back to the beach. Thommo reminds her of Lizzie, a full-neck lizard, that lived in the rocks nearby. Summer catches up with Prawnie for a ride to the airport.
Poppy competes in the semi-finals as Manu monitors from the beach. Disappointed when Poppy crashes, he suggests Marion and Ari start working together.
The boy’s semi-finalists prepare to hit the waves, Mario tells Ari that they are together once again. In a flashback, they walk to the edge of a cliff and wait to jump. Marion suggests they jump at the same time. When they count to three, Ari is the only one to jump. Back to the present, Ari trips out and starts running. As Summer prepares to get in Prawnie’s vehicle, she spots a distressed Ari. She approaches Ari who appears to be having a panic attack. He doesn’t speak when she asks if he has a medical condition. Prawnie blows his horn to rush her up. He pleads with her to stay. Sitting down beside him, she encourages him to breathe normally. She continues to provide encouragement as Prawnie pulls out of the parking lot. He assures her that he can’t return to the competition.
When Sheridan places her surfboard in the back of her truck, Summer rushes over and places it underneath the front tire. Griff wins the semi-finals.
Ari takes a seat beside a sullen Poppy and Bodhen. Summer alerts the surfers on the beach to watch out as Sheridan’s truck rolls toward them. Sheridan rushes toward her broken surfboard. Poppy questions if Summer did it intentionally. Ari calls her a “monster.” Summer sarcastically asks if the surfboard belonged to her before apologizing.
Margot Torres (Kate Beahan) leaves Summer a message, regarding an alert from her credit card company. She pleads with her to not take her anger out on Abbie Gibson (Adrienne Pickering) and her family. Summer joins them at the dining table as the episode comes to an end.
Surviving Summer Review
The show is moving along quite nicely. As Summer settles in, Ari and Poppy’s surfing desperation begins to surface. Every member of the main cast has a unique set of problems, which is typical for teenagers.
The cinematography and acting a great. The episode deserves a 6. Get more Surviving Summer recaps here. Support Reel Mockery by clicking the link.
