Still Up Series 1 Episode 2 Recap

season 1 episode 2 still up tv show lisa

The Dress – As the second episode of Still Up begins, Lisa (Antonia Thomas) wants to delete her dating profile which has a 91% connection with Danny (Craig Roberts). She deletes the account and returns to work. Lisa speaks to Nikki (Cathy Murphy) and Alonzo (Enzo Squillino Jr.) before leaving. Outside, she gets in touch with Veggie (Blake Harrison) to make sure Poppy is okay. Veggie says she passed out straight away. Lisa tells him she’ll be home soon, but she needs to drop something off at Aunt Em’s before tomorrow. Veggie finished his video and was hoping to show it to Lisa before he uploaded it to his channel.

He agrees to send it over so she can watch it on the bus. A man misses the bus. After the intro, Danny stays at home and watches a shopping channel. He checks his dating profile and gets a match with a woman named Amy. On the bus, Lisa begins watching Veggie’s video. A rowdy group gets on the bus and bothers Lisa before she receives a call from Danny. Lisa tells him that her Aunt Em died recently. When Lisa was bullied in school, Aunt Em (Linda Hargreaves) was always there for her. She even came to the school to take care of one of the bullies. For Lisa’s graduation, Aunt Em let her borrow her favorite dress. Lisa admits she forgot to give it back.

Aunt Em left strict instructions that she wanted to be buried in that dress. Danny tells Lisa about Amy. Lisa convinces him to send her a message saying hey. She contacts him back a short time later. Danny doesn’t want to tell Amy what he was up to today because she’ll think he is weird. He reveals he tried to make a bust of Michael Fassbender’s head because he was in an arty mood. Lisa tells him to be himself and trim around the weird, little edges. Veggie texts Lisa asking what she thought of the video. Danny doesn’t want to let her go, but Lisa gets another text from Veggie and thinks she should.

Once she hangs up, she tries to focus on Veggie’s video while Danny attempts to respond to Amy. Nurse Rose (Bronwyn James) sits next to Lisa and wakes her up as she continues watching Veggie’s video. Lisa sends Veggie a message saying the video is his best yet. Lisa notices her bag is missing. Rose insists there wasn’t one there when she got on the bus. Lisa begins wondering if the rowdy group took it. She notices that one of the guys is wearing Aunt Em’s dress. Lisa approaches him and they begin arguing about the dress. When he refuses, Lisa sits down and gets back in touch with Danny who says Amy wants to meet.

He worries it could go well and she may want to get intimate. He took a photo of a mound he found in a private place and wants Lisa to look at it. Lisa tells him to visit a doctor. Danny says he kind of has by using Adam. However, their plan didn’t work and Adam got kicked out of the doctor’s office. Once she agrees to look at the dress, Lisa tells him about the dress. Danny tells her to get the whole bus on her side. Lisa gets up and tells the other passengers that the guy is a thief. One man says he believes her because it is disgusting for a man to wear a dress. Lisa sits back down before telling Danny she turned the whole bus against her.

Danny realizes he sent the mound picture to Amy so he begins freaking out. Lisa tries to give him advice. Danny believes Amy is certified insane if she gets back to him. He worries this is going to be his life forever. A pigeon flies into his apartment. Danny believes Aunt Em would’ve just ripped the dress off the guy’s back. Lisa begins recording using her phone. She tells Tyler (Albert Magashi) that what is about to happen is because of him. Rose records while Lisa begins taking off her clothes and throwing everything off the bus. Tyler says it isn’t worth the hassle before giving her dress back.

As Lisa gets off the bus, she tells Danny that may be the coolest thing she has ever done. She realizes she got off at the wrong stop. The pigeon in Danny’s flat crashes into a closed window. He worries that she is breaking and entering although Lisa says she is using a key. After leaving the dress, she leaves wearing the only clothes she could find in the house. Danny contacts her to say Amy thinks he only has an ingrown hair. She tells him why she is dressed like a ‘70s sofa. Lisa gets back on the same bus. Danny thanks Amy for the second opinion and says he’d like to meet. The pigeon wakes up and flies out of the flat. It hits the window moments later.

Still Up Review

The second episode of Still Up was okay although the series could be better. The humor isn’t going to click with everyone because it doesn’t always work. Truthfully, that aspect of the series isn’t effective. There is potential there for the romantic side of the show though.

If the series would focus on that more and get to the point sooner, it could likely improve and end on a high note. As it is now, the series isn’t bad although it doesn’t do enough to stand out either. With this being eight episodes with weekly releases, it is hard to see how it’ll maintain viewer interest over that time.

If I had to choose, I’d watch The Lovers over Still Up even though it could’ve been better too. This episode of Still Up scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of Still Up are available on Reel Mockery here.
