Stick Season 1 Episode 7 Recap

Dreams Never Remembered – The episode begins with Pryce Cahill (Owen Wilson) remembering various stages of Jett’s (Sebastien Duncan/ Louie Chaplin Moss/ Caden Dragomer/Aidan Merwarth) life. When he comes back to reality, he is lying on a merry–go-round with a young girl standing close by. She asks him where his son is. He tells her that Santi Wheeler (Peter Dager) isn’t his son, but he left. She asks if that is why he was crying. He tells her maybe, and she offers him an orange juice.

Elena Wheeler (Mariana Trevino) calls Mitts (Marc Maron) and asks if he knew what Pryce was paying Zero (Lilli Kay). He tells her he didn’t know about the money. She says Pryce broke Santi’s heart. Mitts tells her Pryce can be a butthead and he is taking Zero to the bus station. She asks him for a favor.

After her conversation with Mitts, Elena tells Santi they are going directly to the airport and Mitts will drop off their things in a few days. She then apologizes and tells him that Zero really liked him. He tells her he is used to it and asks if they can go. She asks what he means. He says he’s used to people liking him for golf, like his dad. She tries convincing him that his dad cares about him, but he doesn’t buy it.

Mitts drops Zero at the bus station and asks where they are going. Zero says they have a friend in Charlotte who is going to line up a hosting gig at a funeral home. Zero goes on a big rant about Santi and the mean things he said to them. Mitts tries to tell her that sometimes people say things they don’t mean. He also tells her that they broke his trust first. He ends up giving Zero some money before leaving.

Elena has some problems booking her dogs at the airport and has to pay a stranger $300 to book with one of them. She also tries cheering up Santi, but doesn’t sound too appealing. Just as Santi and Elena are about to board, Pryce comes strolling in. Elena doesn’t want Santi to speak with him, but Santi insists. Pryce apologizes to him and says he just wants to tell him the truth before he leaves. He tells him the best part about the last 8 weeks wasn’t the golf but being around him. Pryce tells him he is his friend and they only met through golf. That’s all he gets to say for the moment because the plane is boarding and Santi has to leave.

Right before Santi gets on the plane, he tells Elena he needs to talk to Pryce. She goes after him. Santi just catches Pryce at the ticket counter trying to return the ticket he bought to get in to speak with Santi. Santi tells Pryce he wants to keep playing and stay on the road. Pryce tells him they have their shot, and he walked off the US Amateur. Santi says he is talking about the Ready Safe Invitational. Before Pryce can respond, Elena catches up. Santi tells her he wants to keep playing. This doesn’t go over so well, but he eventually convinces her.

Minutes later, Pryce, Miits, Santi, and Elena are all together at the RV discussing the Invitational. It seems all Santi needs is a sponsor exemption, which is something Clark Ross (Timothy Olyphant) can hand out. The only problem is convincing him to do so. Mitts and Pryce seem to have some kind of hustle worked out, but it will require the assistance of Zero.

The episode ends with Santi showing up at the bus station and greeting Zero.

Stick Review

Now, this seemed like a decent episode. Everything was pretty much right to the point, and even the few minutes shorter run time helped. I liked how the episode was like one big redemption tale, which is something I can usually always get behind. I can’t wait to see what the gang cooks up for Ross and Invitational. That should be interesting. I’d have to give this episode a 6 out of 10.
