Sight Unseen Series 2 Episode 2 Recap

About A Boy – Sunny Patel (Agam Darshi) is awakened by a knock at the door. Concerned, she makes her way to the door, looks through the peephole, unlocks the locks, and gradually opens the door. The scene switches to her entering Tess Avery’s (Dolly Lewis) flat and knocking a pencil holder onto the floor. She enters an elevator and selects a floor. The elevator jerks to a stop and the cable appears to break. Sunny is knocked off balance, screams in terror, and wakes in bed. Elsewhere, Remy Darrow (Miles Marthaller) tells Jasmine Lim (Aadila Dosani) that he is having fun and asks about his parents. She says they will be home today and walks away to do something when someone gets in her car and drives away. She tries to get the driver to stop. Remy asks if they can get ice cream.

Sunny tells Tess Avery (Dolly Lewis) that she dreamed about the bald man attacking her. Tess suggests it has to do with her fear of leaving her apartment. She admits to not opening up about the embers she has been seeing. Sunny directs her to Jake Campbell’s (Daniel Gillies) desk. Tess hands him a coffee. He takes a sip but doesn’t like it. He receives an Amber Alert about Remy’s abduction. Upon arriving at the crime scene, Tess and Jake discuss having children. Detective Leo Li (Tony Giroux) tells them that the victim, Remy Darrow’s, parents were on the way back from Chili when the abduction took place. Watching the live footage, Sunny says the luxury vehicle doesn’t belong in this neighborhood. Leo informs them there are no working CCTV cameras in the area and Remy’s phone isn’t pinging. Jasmine explains what happened and says the Darrow family lives in North Delta. She claims to come there because of cheaper petrol. Tess suggests the suspect was after the luxury vehicle, not Remy. Tess asks the mechanics (Frankie Francois and Justin Lacey) if they witnessed the carjacking. One of the mechanics denies seeing anything but Sunny isn’t so sure. Tess threatens to introduce him to a cop. He claims Jasmine and Remy usually visit a green house every few days but this week, she visited him daily. Jake knocks on the door and a man inside flees out the window. Tess waits until the man approaches and hits him. He falls to the ground and Jake apprehends him.

Leo locates the luxury vehicle but not Remy. Jake says, “Start the clock.” Sunny asks what it means. Tess says two hours after an abduction, the victim has a 40% chance of survival. She insists it is a kidnapping, not a carjacking. At the Metro Police Department, Superintendent Bennett (Roger Cross) criticizes someone on the phone for not getting them some help. Leo and Tess discuss the case over the phone. She suggests the abduction was premeditated because the assailant kidnapped Remy and ditched the luxury vehicle in areas with no CCTV coverage. Sunny points out that the location is accessible to major highways. Jake is interviewing Jasmine and her boyfriend, Dino (Martin Cochingco) at the police station. Tess tells Leo that the police picked Tim Darrow (Niall Matter) and Lisa Darrow (Sara Canning) up at the airport. Sunny directs Tess to the Darrow house with a wooden gate vandalized with “LIARS.” Jake calls to tell her that Jasmine was taking Remy with her to visit Dino who has a criminal history. Sunny alerts Tess that she is being watched. Tess asks Ian Murphy (Luke Humphrey) and Rita (Lynn Griffith) if they know who vandalized the gate. Rita blames it on the general contractor, Paul Reinburg (Adil Zaidi) who was terminated. Ian tells her that Paul also keyed their vehicle and praises Tim and Lisa. A short time later, Lisa also blames Paul and claims to be moving because Tim was promoted. Tim tells Tess that he is a roadway designer. They will stay in Santiago for a year before moving to Lisbon. Lisa and Tim had IVF to conceive and Remy is their “little miracle.” He asks Tess to bring Remy home. Sunny believes they are sincere when Remy’s phone pings.

Jake stops a minivan, orders the driver (Emma Rendell) to get out, and asks the passenger, Harper (Ever Ferris), to hand over the phone. Later at the police department, Bennett says the family was shopping near where the luxury vehicle was found. They were at a diner when Remy was abducted. The abductor slipped Remy’s phone in one of the family’s bags. A ransom demand is sent to the police department’s email. Remy says hi to his parents. The kidnapper’s distorted voice demands two million. Tess and Sunny send the ransom audio and voice recordings of people they interviewed to Matt Alleyne (Jarod Joseph). A short time later, Jake and Tess interrogate Paul about Remy’s abduction. Paul denies vandalizing the gate and kidnapping Remy. Sunny believes him. He claims to have been terminated because Lisa was into him. He says some people don’t deserve their kids.

Tess tells Sunny that she blamed herself for her parents being unhappy. Listening to the ransom audio after Matt removed the static, they hear glasses clinking. Tess says she owes him. He says just bring Remy home. A short time later, Tess asks Lisa what Remy thinks about Chile. Lisa says it is an adventure. Sunny believes Lisa isn’t thrilled with the move. Lisa claims her and Tim’s marriage is strong and she rejected Paul’s advances. Tess asks why she never told Tim. Lisa says she didn’t want him to do something stupid. Tess tells her that two million is a lot of money and Tim is paid well. Sunny tries to intervene but Tess ignores her. Lisa says Remy is the most important thing in her life. Tess demands the names of all her partners. Sunny warns her that Lisa is vulnerable right now. Tess argues that 90% of child abductions are committed by parents. Sunny reminds her that Lisa and Tim were in Chile when Remy was abducted. They continue to argue. Tess apologizes to her. Ian’s wind chimes clink like in the ransom audio recording. Tess or breaks into the house. Sunny urges her to wait for Jake. Tess finds the upstairs empty. Sunny has a flashback of the bald man forcing his way into her flat. The neighbor utilizes Remy’s photos as a screensaver.

Sunny notices a marina sticker on Ian’s vehicle. Tess says he may have taken his boat out. She sends a photo of Ian’s vehicle and boat to Bennett. Leo reports Ian’s boat is not at its slip. Looking at a map, Sunny finds two slipways, one 20 kilometers away. Tess sees floating embers as they come up on Ian’s vehicle. He calls it in to dispatch. Remy is asleep in the backseat. Ian veers onto a logging road. Tess calls Ian, identifies herself, and asks about Remy. Ian claims to have told Remy that his parents said he could take him fishing. Sunny discovers a DNA kit in the footage of Ian’s house. Tess asks how long he knew he was Remy’s father. He claims it was just once and denies wanting to be a father until he saw Remy. He panicked when he learned Lisa and Tim were going to move. Tess says he can fight for custody. Ian suddenly veers toward the river and stops. Jake pulls in behind him. She urges him to let Remy go. He emerges from the vehicle and helps Remy out. As Jake leads Remy to his cruiser, Ian says he enjoyed their time together. Remy says me too. A short time later, Lisa and Tim rush out to meet Remy. Tess asks Tim if he wants to know why Ian kidnapped Remy. He explains how Remy taught him about what matters and leaves to be with his family.

Tess thanks Matt for making a difference in their case. He asks what is bothering her. She says Ian walked away for all the right reasons, unlike her father. When he embraces her, she realizes he is wearing his “date” sweater and cologne. She pleads with him to tell her the girl’s name. He escorts her to the exit. In a voicemail, Tess apologizes to Sunny and suggests she has PTSD. Sunny takes an online self-defense class with an instructor (Danielle Salmon). At the police department, Bennett receives a call from Agent Mitchell warning that the investigation will continue. Bennett assures him there is no need to suspend him. Jake is working on the report. Tess brings him coffee.

Sight Unseen Review

The layout takes a bit to get used to but it isn’t too terrible. The story is deep and intriguing while the cases are thought-provoking and profound. The cinematography and acting are hit-and-miss but overall, one of the better crime drama series. The episode deserves a 5.3 out of 10.
