Netflix has announced that the short-film “The Present” will be streaming exclusively on its platform beginning on March 18. The short film was nominated for “Best Live-Action Short Film” at the Academy Awards. Palestinian-British director Farah Nabulsi makes her directing debut while Saleh Bakri stars.
Farah Nabulsi serves as an executive producer with producer Ossama Bawardi and The Present is produced by Philistine Films. The short film focuses on a Palestinian man and his young daughter as they venture to the West Bank to purchase a gift for the man’s wife. Along the way, the viewer will get an up-close look at the couple’s struggles as they encounter soldiers and checkpoints while traveling segregated roads.
The Present has also been nominated for Best British Short at the BAFTAs. It has won several awards and has been nominated for many more. The Present will debut globally on Netflix with a few exceptions. Although it will be available in Arabic, English subtitles will be available.
