Rachel Kennedy (Virginia Gay) listens in on the interrogation. Kevin claims to have left the meatworks after completing some paperwork. Kirby tells him that he left for home between 9 and 9:30pm. Kevin admits to telling Rachel that it was probably 9:30pm when Chandra Pattison (Miranda Anwar) arrives demanding to see Kevin. Rachel reminds her of Kevin being interrogated. Chandra describes the interrogation as “ridiculous.”

Rachel tells Chandra the interrogation will take a bit if she’d like to wait. Chandra asks if she believes Kevin harmed Hugh. While leaving, she receives a text from Terry Anderson (Cooper Van Grootel) that reads, “River Place Motel room 16.”

Max Englert (Richard Piper) greets voters at the Savage River Voting Station. He tells Simon Englert (James Mackay) that he probably owes Miki Anderson (Katherine Langford) a debt of gratitude for probably causing Deborah Cochrane (Leah Vandenberg) to lose votes.

After informing Kevin that the conference call with the potential buyers ended at 8:15pm, Kirby says his car computer shows he left the meatworks at 2am. Kevin reminds him of his car blowing up. Kirby suggests a lot of business owners wouldn’t hire immigrants as he did. Kevin assures him that he hasn’t been accredited for it. Kirby says Hugh complaining about the work conditions and pay didn’t help. Kevin tells him that Hugh probably meant well. Kirby asks if it “pissed him off.” Kevin admits to being “pissed off” about a lot of things. Kirby says Salim Bayati (Osamah Sami) came clean about selling stolen meat from the meatworks. Kevin asks for how long Rachel knocks on the door She hands Kirby a note ordering him to apply more pressure.

Miki suggests Rachel question Kevin about his relationship with Jasmine. Rachel tells her that it isn’t possible. Miki claims Jasmine told her that she was having an affair with an older man. Rachel assures her that it wasn’t Kevin because he went to Bali and didn’t return for a year after meeting Chandra. Kirby informs Rachel that Kevin is requesting a lawyer. Miki looks at Kirby’s name tag that reads “B. Kirby” before leaving.

Connor Kirby (Bernard Curry) asks Simon if he believes Kevin murdered Hugh.  Simon informs him that the boatshed CCTV showed Miki cleaning a lot of blood off herself. Connor asks what is his plan before reminding him of Kevin being their friend.

Kirby asks Kevin if Hugh’s vehicle was in the parking lot when he left the meatworks. Kevin denies seeing the vehicle. Kirby informs him of a witness seeing him put a large item in Hugh’s vehicle before leaving it in. He says an adult-sized handprint was discovered on the window before asking for a DNA sample. Looking concerned, Kevin asks what will happen if he refuses. Kirby assures him that innocent people generally consent to a DNA test.

Miki approaches Colleen Lang (Jacqueline McKenzie) to ask if Jasmine and Bill Kirby were close. Colleen asks what she’s getting at. Miki informs her that Jasmine started a new diary after putting the first one in a time capsule. Colleen claims there was no diary in the time capsule. Miki suggests Hugh knew “K” who probably murdered him to keep anyone from finding out. Colleen tells her that Kirby never left home but for work because his wife had cancer.

Chandra arrives at the hotel but drives away instead of going inside.

Rachel and Kirby watch the CCTV footage from the boathouse. Kirby suggests it puts a hole in Lynne’s story. Simon asks Rachel to not tell Miki where she got it. Rachel tells him that she won’t tell a lie. Kirby tells Simon that he owes him a beer. After saying there’s no evidence that the blood belongs to Hugh, Rachel points out that Miki can’t drive and no blood was detected in the driver’s seat. Kirby assures her that a jury would find Miki guilty after watching the footage.

Miki visits Kirby’s Chemist to find Ivy Pattison (Hattie Hook) upset.  Ivy claims to be upset over some “family sh**.” When Miki asks where Connor is, Laila says he’s at the polling place. Miki informs her that Jasmine was a former employee at Kirby’s Chemist. Ivy asks if she’s referring to the “dead girl.” Miki asks if Connor ever talks about Jasmine. Ivy says, “No.”

Rachel asks Lynne if Miki is home. Lynne tells her that she is out. Rachel accuses her of lying about Miki’s whereabouts on the night Hugh went missing. She informs her of the boathouse’s CCTV footage of Miki at about 10pm. Lynne refuses to tell her what time Miki made it home.

Lynne informs Miki that Rachel is looking for her via a text. Miki asks Joel Thorpe (Mark Coles Smith) if Connor was “K.” He describes Connor as a “decent bloke.” Miki tells him that he was Jasmine’s employer. He asks if she knows it’s risky to randomly accuse people. She reminds him of Jasmine’s diary. He says it’s only a “K.” She tells him that Jasmine’s other diary contained more information. He asks if it’s missing from Colleen’s house. She questions if it’s in Connor’s possession. He suggests getting the police involved before warning her that snooping will only make her look guilty again. She flips him the bird before riding away on her bike.

Terry looks out the hotel window for any sign of Chandra.

Chandra asks Dale O’Neill (Sally-Anne Upton) if Ivy made it home. Dale denies seeing her.

Miki asks Deborah to assist in writing her police statement. Deborah hands her a notepad to get started while she takes a shower. Miki searches the house while she’s in the shower. In the shower, she discovers a bottle of DNA Buster when Connor pulls into the driveway. She slips back inside the house as Connor empties his pockets. Deborah asks if she can read her statement later. Miki wishes her good luck with the election before leaving. Deborah looks at Miki’s statement, which reads, “I know who killed Hugh.”

Chandra tells Rachel that she’s concerned about Ivy. After informing her that Kirby’s Chemist is already closed, Rachel suggests she’s with friends. Chandra says she contacted Tim Li (Bill Zeng) and Kaji Perera (Yashith Fernando). Rachel tells her that she has to go when Miki approaches on her bike. Miki shows her the photo of the DNA Buster at Connor’s. Rachel warns her that it isn’t enough evidence to convict him. Miki assures her that Jasmine protected Connor by not identifying him. Rachel informs her of the boatshed’s CCTV footage. Miki claims when she freed herself from the freezer Hugh’s body fell on top of her leaving her covered in blood.

Rachel suggests Miki give her statement at the police station. Miki assures her that Kirby won’t do anything if his son, Connor is responsible for Hugh’s death. She sends Connor a text that reads, “I have Jasmine’s diary if you want it come to the meatworks.”

Connor looks at the text as Deborah warns Max will snatch up the best seats if they don’t leave now. He suggests she leave and he’ll catch up with her in a bit.

Adam Lang (Jack Kenny) is drinking beer in his truck when Miki passes on her bike. He follows her.

Rachel informs Kirby that the meatworks will be shuttered for forensics testing. Kirby asks why. She reminds him that the murder weapon was a knife from the meatworks. After telling her that the location sharing has been deactivated on Ivy’s phone, he claims to have assured Chandra that Ivy has a “good head on her shoulders.”

Rachel asks Kevin about Ivy’s whereabouts. He reminds her that he has been locked up there all day. She asks if he helped Miki move Hugh’s body after she killed him. He admits to moving the body but didn’t kill him.

After running Miki off the road, Adam finds her unconscious on the ground. He gets back in his truck and drives away.

Rachel asks Kevin what time he left the meatworks. He claims after discovering Hugh’s lifeless body near the freezer, he put it in his car. He tells her that he washed the blood away before driving to the river where he hoped someone would find it. She assures him that she’s trying to understand why he did it. He admits to owing a lot of money before asking if he’ll lose it all. She warns him that charges will be filed against him. He denies killing Hugh.

She reminds him of Tim and Deborah. He assures her that they’ll be all right without him. When she says she’ll get her things, he promises to buy her everything new.

Tim tries to talk to Deborah when she joins Max on the stage. She tells the locals that they need to save Savage River or it will die.

Miki comes through to find her bike damaged.

Rachel leaves Ivy a message pleading with her to call. She and Miki communicate via text while Tim and Kaji speak with Kirby.

Miki enters the meatworks.

Connor tells Ivy to wait in the car until he takes care of something inside the meatworks.

Kirby tells Rachel that Connor put the knife in Miki’s locker as they watch CCTV footage of him inside the phone booth. Rachel asks why he never said anything. He reminds her of Connor being his son. She asks why he’s showing her the CCTV footage now. He informs her that Connor and Ivy are together.

Connor approaches Miki inside the meatworks. He asks where Jasmine’s diary is at. She says the diary that Hugh had in his possession explained it all. She tells him that he murdered Hugh to get Jasmine’s diary. He orders her to shut up. She asks how many girls were there. Ivy walks toward the meatworks. Miki reminds Connor that Jasmine was only 15 years old. He claims to have loved her more than anything. They both scramble for a cellphone. She grabs it before running away with him in tow. He promises to let her go if she hands over Jasmine’s diary and her phone. Ivy calls for Connor asking why it is taking him so long. As he tells her to return to the car, Miki goes upstairs.

Connor picks up a bolt gun before following Miki upstairs. He tells Miki that Hugh was armed with a knife to kill him. Rachel rushes to the meatworks. Miki messages her a photo or video. Ivy asks what he’s doing. He tells her that she was told to wait for him in the car. Miki suggests she go home when Connor aims the bolt gun at her forehead ordering her to hand over the phone. She gives it to him as Rachel pulls up in front of the meatworks. He threatens to shoot her if she doesn’t give him Jasmine’s diary. She claims it’s in her locker. He asks Ivy to go retrieve it. When Rachel calls for Ivy, he aims the bolt gun at ivy. Miki goes for the bolt gun while Ivy shoves him over the ledge. They look at him lying unconscious on the floor below. Miki comforts Ivy.

Colleen comforts Adam as he stares at a photo of Jasmine and Miki.

Rachel informs Miki that she’s relocating to Savage River to be with Ivy probably until Kevin’s release. Miki asks how Ivy is doing. Rachel tells her that Kirby took a page from Jasmine’s autopsy report to protect Connor. She suggests Jasmine may not have drowned but suffocated as there was a feather in her lungs. Miki asks if she’s positive. Rachel says not completely. Miki claims they fought because she thought Jasmine was in love with Simon who she had a crush on. Rachel apologizes for not doing a better job. Miki asks her to clarify if she didn’t kill Jasmine. Rachel tells her that she probably didn’t before promising to get her exonerated. She pleads with her to stay in Savage River.

Miki has a flashback of her and Jasmine frolicking in the water as the episode comes to an end.

Savage River Finale Review

Miki conducted her own investigation into Hugh’s death because she didn’t trust the police. She put her own life in danger to discover Connor was Jasmine’s older lover.

When Hugh confronted Connor, he ended up dead. Kevin was so desperate to sell the meatworks and get out of debt, he cleaned up the murder scene and disposed of Hugh’s body where it would be found.

Like Jasmine, Ivy had an affair with Connor. Miki lured him to the meatworks to gather enough information to get him convicted. Little did she know, he wouldn’t be alone. Connor threatened to kill her if she refused to give him Jasmine’s diary and her phone. He got thrown off his game when Ivy refused to stay in the car. The two girls shoved him off the ledge and to his death as Rachel arrived.

Kirby admitted to Rachel that he concealed the CCTV footage of the telephone booth to protect Connor. Previously, Rachel confronted him about a missing page of Jasmine’s autopsy report.

As Miki prepared to board a commuter bus for the city, Rachel filled her in on Jasmine’s autopsy report. She told her that the autopsy detected a feather in Jasmine’s lungs, which may have supported a death by strangulation. She said the amount of water in her lungs probably wouldn’t have caused her to drown. She promised to get her exonerated if she agreed to stay in Savage River.

The finale tied up the investigation. It’s unclear if Kirby resigned for withholding evidence from Rachel. There hasn’t been any mention of the show being renewed for a second season.

The finale deserves a 6.5. Get more Savage River recaps here. Support Reel Mockery by clicking the link.
