Jesus Loves A Hustler – As the episode opens, Jade Mary Megan James (Phoebe Thomas) asks the Lord for salvation. Costello Jones (Daisy May Cooper) follows suit by asking for a London council flat. Jade questions why she wants to live in a “sh*t” city like London. When Costello claims it’s her hometown, Jade calls her a “hypocrite” because she most recently lived in a big country house. In another prayer, Jade asks the Lord to help Costello because Iris Jones (Fleur Tashjian) detests her. Costello says Iris only hates living there and her new school. Jade assures her that “Jesus Loves a Hustler” before asking if she would like to webcam for money. Costello admits to not wanting Serena (Tanya Moodie) on her bad side.

Bedlam – Frida (Emily Fairn) tries to entice Florian Selby (Jack Farthing) with her sex appeal while he leaves Costello a voicemail. She sensuously removes her panties when he claims to have made friends during his stay. He pleads for a future visit.

Costello waits in line at the food bank when Richard (Tom Durant Pritchard) recognizes her. She informs him of her time living with Selby in the country. When he describes Selby as a “knob,” she says he knows nothing about Selby who is her best friend. He grabs her a box of rations when she claims to be interested in volunteering. He gives her a tour of the facility.

Frida diagnoses Selby as having an antisocial personality disorder. He asks what is her diagnosis. She claims to have a borderline personality, anorexia, and PTSD. He says she is quite a collector of mental disorders. She describes all his relationships as “violent” before recognizing him as having “big daddy issues.” He admits wanting to ram her head into the television.

Gloria Duke (Ronke Adekoleujo) admits not wanting to raise a baby with Paul (Sam Hazeldine). She claims to already have three unsuccessful attempts at breaking up with him. When Costello suggests telling him that she died, they both burst out laughing. She tells her that she was relieved when Selby called. Gloria demands she not visit him before inviting her to share her abortion experience if she goes through with it.

Costello asks Iris what it would take to convince her to stop hating her. Iris says nothing. Costello orders Iris to do her homework while she speaks with Serena. Iris sarcastically suggests putting her up for adoption. Serena informs Costello of her new forever home in Thanet. Costello claims to have been pretending to be good before making a blasphemous comment. Serena says 600 quid each month is enough to keep her from giving them the boot.

Costello tells Richard that she needs a job that pays. He claims to be a supporter of sex workers. She convinces him to give her five pounds and oral sex.

Gloria tells Paul that she could never love him. She says men generally leave her when she treats them badly. He questions if she would later agree to have a drink with him. She schedules an abortion after he leaves.

Jade suggests looking like an authentic refuge tenant. Signed in as “batterbitches,” she describes them as “horny babes” trapped in a refuge for battered women. A webcam man (Tom Bowdler) asks if they ran away from bad men. When she pleads for help, they have €15.20. Costello claims to have been abused her entire life. The man asks if they have bruises. She offers to tell her story if he clicks “Donate.” As the money comes flowing in, they strive to make their stories more believable. A webcam man (Tom Kempner) asks where he hit her. Jade makes Costello appear to have been recently battered. A webcam man (Shaun Cowlishaw) admits wanting to punch her face. They utilize the proceeds for new shoes, a laptop, and more.

A webcam man (Jay Oliver Yip) masturbates to them. A man asks if they deserved their beatings while another webcam man (Mark Kempner) says he would hit them with his “big penis.”

Day 29 – Selby leaves Costello a voicemail asking why she refuses to visit him. Frida says she already forgot him.

An intoxicated Gloria and Costello are in the abortion clinic waiting room. The receptionist (Aylin Scott) says the law prohibits women who have consumed alcohol in the last 24 hours to consent to an abortion. Gloria demands to be given an abortion. As Costello pulls her out of the clinic, she asks the patients if she looks like someone who should have a baby.

After describing Costello as rude, arrogant, and aggressive, Serena questions if she was truly abused. When Costello asks if she doesn’t believe her, the ceiling cracks. She rushes upstairs to check on Iris before rushing outside with the other tenants.

Selby says he can hardly wait to make things better for Iris and Costello. Kenneth (Ken Nwosu) asks what he would tell them. Selby tells him that he would acknowledge his feelings and his inability to express them.

Costello goes off on a woman and man for the damaged refuge. She says their lucky there were no fatalities.

Frida tells Selby that he has visitors, a woman and a girl. He searches the waiting room only to discover there is no one there to see him. He tells Frida that she did a terrible thing before walking away.

The refuge tenants board a van to Skegness. Costello informs Serena that she and Iris won’t be going. Jade suggests the women to join Costello’s social cleansing protest. After denying plans to protest, Costello suggests she go with Serena.

Gloria informs Costello of her decision to not go through with the abortion. Costello embraces her. She invites them to stay with her until they get a council flat. Costello asks her to take Iris to lunch while she clears her head. She goes to a public restroom and listens to her voicemails. Selby apologizes for failing her when the episode ends.

 

Rain Dogs Review

Costello partners with Jade to portray battered women living in a refuge. When the money starts flowing in, they enhance their effort by painting brushes on their face. They utilize the proceeds for new shoes, a laptop, and other nonessential items.

Selby gets an admirer in Bedlam. Frida seems more mental than him. After 30+ days of being institutionalized, he doesn’t react violently toward Frida when she claims Costello and Iris have come for a visit.

Gloria is close to getting an abortion until the clinic refuses her consent because she is inebriated. After breaking it off with Paul, she opts to keep the baby.

Costello refuses Serena’s offer of a forever home in Thanet. The battered women’s refuge is severely damaged during a renovation. The tenants are transferred to Skegness. Costello and Iris move in with Gloria.
