Prosper Series 1 Episode 5 Recap

Love Offerings – As the episode opens, Cal Quinn (Richard Roxburgh) pops up out of a vat of water and gasps for breath.

Eli Slowik (Jacek Koman) receives a call from Helen informing him that he doesn’t need to pick up Nick at the airport. He complains about Nick missing the wilderness walk. She reminds him that Nick is no longer a child, he is working.

Moses Quinn (Alexander D’Souza) works with a physical therapist (Max Vaccu). He falls during an exercise. Cal rushes over to check on him. Moses apologizes to him. Cal urges him to not worry about it. Later, Moses admits to Tia (Giulia Modonese) that he faked a spasm to get out of the church wilderness walk. She assures him that he will find his biological father. They make out until she pulls away to go to school. She passes Issy Kalani (Hayley McCarthy) on her way out. Issy catches Moses preparing to take a provocative photo. She asks about the adoption agency but he refuses to answer. Abi Quinn (Rebecca Gibney) asks Issy if she has spoken to Ravi. Issy says what Ravi decides is out of her control but she denied Moses’ meeting request. Benji Kalani (Jordi Webber) asks Abi if Moses is ready for the wilderness walk. She reminds him that Moses is almost crippled.

Abi and Taz Quinn (Ming-Zhu Hii) are surprised Kasey Leeway (Nikki Shiels) arrived for the women’s seminar. Abi says Manny (Tommy Ropati) was supposed to take her to the motel. Kasey changes blouses in front of everyone.

Jed Quinn (Jacob Collins Levy) and Leroy (Julian Weeks) meet Cal and Dion Quinn (Ewen Leslie) for the wilderness walk. Everyone is shocked to see Maddox “M.Dox (Alex Fitzalan). Eli says hopefully Mitch Leeway (Christopher James Baker) doesn’t find out. Dion denies inviting him. Cal warns that he is toxic before explaining his plan. When Dan Gascoigne (James Saunders) arrives, he is surprised to see M.Dox. Cal claims he invited himself. The men leave their provisions behind.

Kasey speaks at the women’s seminar. A mother (Suzie Mathers) apologizes when her crying baby disrupts her speech. Kasey assures her that she is doing God’s work. Issy follows the mother into the lobby. She asks Issy about her pregnancy. Issy holds her baby while she goes to the restroom.

Dion tells Cal that he is considering reaching out to Gigi. Cal asks if he hasn’t done enough damage already. Maddox doubts nature is good for you when he finds a leech attached to his leg. While working to remove the leech, Dion claims to have had one before. When Maddox panics, Leroy says to stop being a “pu**y, this fa**ot” dealt with it.” Dion gets upset with Leroy. Cal urges him to walk away. Benji removes the leech.

Jackie (Renee Lim) talks about her struggles with infertility. She claims everyone urged her to give up when she got pregnant with her daughter. Issy explains the loneliness she felt while living in Hong Kong at the age of 15. Taking the microphone, Abi says it was a difficult time for all of them while they were establishing churches around the world. She suggests it brought them closer together. Issy reluctantly agrees.

Eli asks Dan about the progress of the charity tax audit. Dan claims it has stalled. Jed warns that people are beginning to ask when a church ends and a multinational corporation begins. The men go spear-fishing. Dion asks Maddox if he has been in contact with Gigi. Maddox says it is probably his fault. Jed reminds him that he cheated with a 15-year-old girl. M.Dox admits to being a screw-up when Gigi calls him. Leroy nabs a fish. At the women’s retreat, Kasey urges the women to eat and not worry about what men think of them. Later, Abi finds her vomiting in the restroom.

Eli claims Helen took his children away. Jed asks why he didn’t go with them. Eli says she knew his work was there. Jed suggests Helen got tired of coming in second to Cal.

Issy invites Juno Adebayo (Andrea Solonge) to sing with her at the Sunday service. She returns home to find Moses and Tia in the tub together. She warns of what an unplanned pregnancy would do to their lives. Elsewhere, Kasey tells Abi that she divorced her first husband after he cheated on her and she and Mitch could never have children. Abi confronts her about what she said about men. She believes men are the head of the household.

Benji finds Eli intoxicated. Eli warns that women are not to be trusted. Benji assures him that he and Issy do not keep secrets from each other. Eli asks if he is sure. Dion slaps Leroy for coming into his tent and touching him. Leroy claims to have got a vibe off of him. A helicopter arrives to pick up Dan because he has been summoned by the Prime Minister. Maddox takes off after him. Benji calls Issy to confront her about Eli’s accusation. He asks if the baby is his. She admits to being Moses’ mother. The signal cuts out. He scolds Cal for lying about Issy being a virgin when they married. Cal says he did what was necessary to protect Issy. Benji heads back to his car. Jed and Elroy abandon the wilderness walk. Cal tries to stop Dion from joining them until he knows Issy is Moses’ mum. He and Eli continue on the trail.

Issy leaves during Kasey’s speech about women’s empowerment. Abi follows her into the hallway where Issy admits to telling Benji everything. Issy reminds her of how they sent their “teenage sl*t daughter” out of the country when she was 15. Abi assures her that it was necessary to protect her. Issy walks away.

When Taz tries to talk about Issy and Moses, Dion tells her that it is none of his business. Benji comforts Issy. Moses tells Cal that he will not be going back on stage again. Cal asks if he has had any contact with his biological father. Moses says he blocked him. Cal calls him a “fool”.

Issy and Juno sing at the Sunday service. Eli gives Kasey a paper bag. She voices concern about getting caught with it. He assures her that it is taken care of. Later, Jed visits Juno. Tayla (Emma Horn) sees them together. He complements Juno’s performance. She suggests the seminar inspired her. He explains how the seminars are a scam that puts a lot of tax-free cash into the preachers’ pockets. He claims Cal and Abi paid Kasey to do the seminar and Mitch will pay them to do the same in LA. They kiss before he leaves.

Eli calls Dan to inform him of Kasey getting caught by customs with the cash. He accuses him of tipping off customs. Dan ends the call. He tells Jackie that the Prime Minister needs to believe his first loyalty is to him. She admits to not liking Kasey.

Benji tells Issy that he cannot forgive Cal and Abi for what they did to her. She sends the video of Cal and Rosa doing drugs to Abi. The episode ends.

 

Prosper Review

Cal leads a wilderness walk for U Star Church. Maddox shows up uninvited. Cal forces everyone to leave their provisions in their vehicles. The men are supposed to leave on what Nature has to offer. Dan abandons the walk early when the Prime Minister summons them to Canberra. Maddox leaves with him. Benji leaves after learning Issy is Moses’ mum. Only Eli and Cal are left to finish the walk.

Leroy comes onto Dion believing he is gay. Offended, Dion slaps him.

Abi and Cal give Kasey tax-free cash to hold a women’s seminar in Sidney. Kasey is stopped by customs. Eli accuses Dan of reporting her to customs. Dan is less concerned about the church and more concerned about his loyalty to the prime minister.

Abi got pregnant with Ravi when she was 15. Abi and Cal sent her to live in Hong Kong to protect their reputation while they established churches all over the world. Issy sends Rosa’s video of her and Cal doing drugs together to Abi.
