Off The Market – The episode begins with a very brief scene of the night of Jacob Morgan’s (Wyatt Aubrey) death from JD Campbell’s (Luke Wilson) and Margo Starling’s (Linda Cardellini) point of view. This already brief scene is cut short when, thanks to the smoke detector, JD learns that Margo is making homemade biscuits for Paul (Ray Romano) and Lydia Morgan (Lisa Kudrow).
Elsewhere, things aren’t going much better for Lydia when she wakes to Paul and Mikey Morgan (Denis Leary) arguing. Upon locating the source of the arguing, Lydia discovers that Paul now not only has Mikey completely sealed up, but he’s installed cameras inside the attic to spy on him. Mikey threatens Paul by claiming that people are looking for him and if they don’t find him, they will find Paul. Although this doesn’t scare Paul, Lydia takes it seriously. Paul doesn’t have an answer for Lydia when she asks how this has become their lives.
Despite all their setbacks, Sarah Weber (Poppy Liu) appears to have a positive outlook on life and getting the Morgan’s House. She’s even canceled some of her favorite conspiracy apps. Unfortunately, this positive outlook changes not only when Leslie Fisher (Abbi Jackson) tells her that Jacob was murdered in the Morgan home, but when they arrive to find the ‘for sale’ sign missing. JD and Margo arrive at about the same to discover the sign missing as well. Margo takes a much different approach and knocks on the Morgan’s door. Neither Lydia nor Paul is prone to answer.
Sometime later, Paul and Lydia go on a picnic on a popular hiking trail, where they run into JD and Margo. Despite her best efforts at lying, it’s pretty clear that Margo has planned the meetup, and her inquiries about the ‘for sale’ are anything but subtle. Margo also excuses herself to the lady’s room and leaves JD alone with the Morgans when they announce that they are leaving. At the same time, Leslie drops Sarah off at work. As soon as Sarah is out of the vehicle and Leslie is around the corner, Sarah logs into her ‘Citizen’ app. She creates a new post, inquiring about the murder at the Morgan’s house, and receives a rather quick response from someone named Mrs. BoJangles123.
When Paul and Lydia finally make it to their vehicle, they learn that both of their front tires have been slashed. Lydia first assumes it is glass until she learns that Paul has been carrying around Mikey’s phone. She then assumes it was the people looking for Mikey. Although Paul plays this down, he ends up throwing Mikey’s phone into the ravine.
While Leslie receives a text from Greg Boycelane (Matt Rogers) with news about the ‘for sale’ sign, Lydia and Paul end up back at JD’s house. JD makes margaritas while Margo slips into something much more revealing. She immediately tempts everyone with a dip in the hot tub but it is only Paul who bites. By this time, Leslie has returned to pick up Sarah from her shift. Leslie tells her about the ‘for sale’ sign and the death of Mikey, which inspires Sarah to share what she learned from Mrs. Bojangles123. Apparently, Bojangles is not only a neighbor, but she has footage of Lydia attacking Mikey.
Paul and Margo immediately hit it off in the hot tub but things turn awkward the moment she compares him to her grandpa. He attempts to leave but she begins on this rant about her and JD’s marriage crumbling. JD and Lydia’s time together goes completely opposite as they begin on an awkward note but end up bonding over his love for cooking and piano. He even manages to get her to play a few bars. When he attempts to get her to play more, she admits that she hasn’t been able to play since Jacob died. This causes JD to break down and reveal the story about how he and Margo were home the night Jacob was murdered. He claims he heard the disturbance but rather than help, he hid in the closet. Lydia tries to convince him that he wasn’t in the wrong but it doesn’t appear to work.
As Leslie and Sarah meet with Mrs. BoJangles123 (Phyllis), Paul and Lydia return home to discuss their separate evenings. Although they might share different opinions of JD and Margo, it’s clear that neither Paul nor Lydia cares much for JD or Margo. Lydia is even more shocked when Paul tells her that Margo offered him $200,000 over the asking price. Lydia intimately attacks him when he claims that he told her Lydia has the final say so over the selling of the house. Their moment of intimacy is interrupted by the arrival of an officer at the front door who turns out to be Nate Morgan (Kevin Alves). This is where the episode ends.
No Good Deed Review
This was a really good episode! In fact, most episodes are turning out to be pretty good. I enjoyed seeing the relentless ends that Margo would go to in order to secure the home. Leslie and Sarah were never my favorite couple, but I enjoyed their differing reactions to the selling of the home. Revealing Nate as a cop at the end of the episode was the perfect way to make a good episode even better. I’d have to give it a 6 out of 10.
