Private Showing – Episode 2 begins with a brief look at the past where Paul (Ray Romano) and Lydia Morgan (Lisa Kudrow) are arguing about gun safety when Jacob Morgan (Wyatt Aubrey) attempts to sneak into his room unnoticed. He does not succeed and this leads to a huge blowout and everyone going to bed angry at each other.
The following morning, Lydia shares her spirit/guidance experience with Paul, who practically laughs in her face. He doesn’t laugh at the $80,000 but nearly flips out after learning the money came from Lydia’s piano. Although Lydia has the address of the previous buyer, it doesn’t calm Paul. They end up arguing over Paul’s careless approach with the gun and selling the home before Paul storms off.
Elsewhere, Margo Starling (Linda Cardellini) learns that the Morgans aren’t interested in selling to a developer. She also gets the sense that Gwen Delvecchio (Kate Moennig) doesn’t want to work with her.
When Gwen gets up to shower, Margo secretively uses Gwen’s phone to ‘Share Her Location.’ While Paul is blackmailed by the new piano owner, Victor Friedberg (Lawrence Pressman), Greg Boycelane (Matt Rogers) meets with Leslie Fisher (Abbi Jackson) and Sarah Weber (Poppy Liu) to further discuss the sale of the home. It doesn’t take Sarah long to ask about the upstairs or notice that the piano is gone. Once upstairs, Sarah goes immediately to the previously locked room, where she and Sarah discover Lydia asleep in what used to be Jacob’s room. After a brief introduction, Leslie begins asking Lydia all kinds of awkward questions about Jacob, but thankfully Greg intervenes before things go too far.
Using the location app, Margo surprises Gwen, Doug (Sachin Bhatt), and Brad (Alex Bonifer) at the Dresden Restaurant. After Margo begins flirting with Doug and Brad and shooting off the mouth about the Morgan property, Gwen pulls her from the table. In private Margo apologizes for showing up but claims her love for Gwen was too much. Gwen’s lackluster response to Margo’s outcry does not sit well with Margo, which leads to her telling Brad that Gwen is cheating him out of the Las Vegas deal.
At the same time, Paul meets with Mikey Morgan (Denis Leary) to give him the $80,000. Mikey isn’t happy to learn that the money is a bit short but is even less happy when Mikey pulls the gun on him after a slight confrontation.
Sarah and Lydia end up bonding over Jacob, raising children, IVF, and the complications of pregnancy, when they get a few minutes alone. Both ladies are equally forthcoming, but the biggest takeaway is that Leslie is the district attorney for the area.
While Paul is recruited for a task at JD Campbell’s (Luke Wilson) house, Lydia receives a visit from Phyllis Adelman (Linda Lavin). Phyllis’s visit reveals that it was not a raccoon that was causing all of last night’s problems. By this time, Paul nearly has JD’s issue all taken care of. During this process, JD and Paul discuss everything from Bible study to Paul’s house.
Later that evening, Lydia sets out to learn more about spirits when she receives Phyllis’s e-mail, containing the security footage from the previous night’s event. It doesn’t take Lydia long to connect the shoes to Leslie. At the same time, Sarah shares her recent discoveries with Leslie, including the fact that she’s pregnant. Leslie learns about the pregnancy at the same time she uses Google to discover that Jacob was supposedly slain in a robbery gone wrong type of situation.
JD learns that Margo has been cheating on him when he confronts her about attending the opening house. Margo, assuming that she has been caught, practically tells him that she has been cheating. Despite the fact that she stood with him throughout the roughest parts of his career, JD doesn’t appear to be too quick or willing to forgive her.
Paul returns home to find a mysterious envelope awaiting his arrival. Inside is what appears to be a picture of a body bag with a threatening message printed on the back. The message reads – You’re not the only one who sees things. Let’s see how fast you can come up with another 80 grand. Paul replaces the picture and note and retires to Jacob’s room. As he studies some of Jacob’s trophies, he unlatches a hidden lever that causes the bookshelf to swing away like a trapdoor.
Inside the hidden room, Paul takes note of what appears to be a white bag. A brief flashback to the night of Jacob’s death indicates that this bag has some significance. In the present day, Paul looks inside the bag and pulls out what appears to be the Rolex that was recently stolen from JD’s house. The episode ends with Paul taking the Rolex and closing the trap door behind him.
No Good Deed Review
Although it’s only been 2 episodes, it somehow already feels like it has been quite the ride. While the series is far from perfect, there isn’t much that I have to complain about. I am enjoying everything from the pacing of the series to the shocking new twists that keep appearing out of nowhere. The quirky cast is a delight to watch and I enjoy seeing their whacky stories unfold. That said, the Sampsons appeared to seemingly drop out of the bottom of the world. I’d give this episode a 5.8 out of 10.
