Murder Mindfully Series 1 Episode 3 Recap

Nicole Egmann Murder Mindfully Netflix

Fear – Episode 3 begins slightly in the future with the assassination of Murat (Amer El-Erwadi) at what appears to be a game reserve.

Despite his earlier carefree response to his predicament, Bjorn Diemel (Tom Schilling) begins to grow paranoid. The public attention Dragan Sergowicz (Sascha Alexander Gersak) is now getting certainly doesn’t help his case and eventually leads to him deviating from some of his regular routines. Matters only spiral further when he receives an urgent request from Murat to meet at the game reserve.

Upon arriving at work, Bjorn is called into a meeting with several of the firm’s senior partners where he is admonished for his treatment of Bregenz and pawning Emily Emily Diemel (Pamuk Pilavci) off on Doro Kerner. Although he recalls and applies several techniques from a mindfulness seminar, Mr. Erkel oversteps when he accuses Bjorn of sexually discriminating against Bregenz. After shining a brief light on the fact that the firm doesn’t have any female partners, he accuses them of being more concerned with defending a secretary than protecting their high-paying client. The verbal sparring continues for several moments more but ultimately ends with Bjorn attempting to cut a deal to resign at the end of the month with a nice severance package. Despite their laughter and snubbing their noses at the offer, Bjorn immediately returns to his office and begins preparing for his departure. It isn’t much longer after this that he receives word from Von Dresen that they’ll accept the offer.

With the turf war looming, Toni is already in panic mode and Bjorn blatantly ignoring his calls doesn’t put him any further at ease. One of Toni’s associates takes it upon himself to confront Bjorn. The impromptu visit only makes Bjorn’s next task of immortalizing Dragan’s thumbprint all the more pressing. With supplies in hand, he returns to his recently acquired apartment and begins the challenge but it doesn’t take him long to grow frustrated. Using a technique he learned from Joschka Breitner (Peter Jordan), he overcomes the frustration and not only successfully completes the task, but puts himself into a deep sleep in the process.

It isn’t until Katharina Diemel (Emily Cox) calls to schedule a meeting to discuss Emily Diemel (Pamuk Pilavci) attending kindergarten that he wakes. Although pleasant, the conversation is extremely brief and straight to the point. She also mentions Emily’s missing toy bird, which he subsequently locates in his car. He is in the process of toying around with the bird’s recording function when a message from Murat reminds him of the meeting at the game reserve.

Although Toni continues to blow up his phone and he continues to ignore the call, Bjorn realizes he has much bigger problems when he arrives to find Murat face down on the bench, surrounded by an entire squad of investigators. His hopes of stepping away are dashed the moment he spots Detective Nicole Egmann. Despite appearing reserved, it’s fairly clear that she frightens him a little as she theorizes how Murat met his end. Her inadvertent slip about the lake house surveillance doesn’t ease him. By the time he returns home, he’s clearly freaked out. He’ll soon have more immediate concerns when Toni and Tyson drop in on him. The visit is brief but ends with Toni threatening to kill him if he doesn’t hear from Dragan in the next three days.

The episode ends with the raven dropping Dragan’s finger into an empty wine glass at what appears to be an outside restaurant.

Murder Mindfully Review

Another decent episode but a bit dull at times. The shortened runtimes help and keep things on point for the most part. I did appreciate the foreshadowing with the raven and how the last two episodes ended with its surprise visit. Not only is the main plot moving along nicely but the subplots and side stories are developing at an equally pleasurable pace. Episode 3 easily deserves a 6 out of 10.
