Lots of exciting things have taken place and are currently taking place in the entertainment industry. Just look at how streaming services started releasing entire seasons in one fail swoop.
And these are new TV series! It’s certainly a more convenient tactic for the streamer, as it eliminates the weekly wait between episodes. Against the COVID pandemic and the economic crisis, the entertainment industry is exploring all kinds of new, exciting avenues to attract or maintain streamers.
Although there has always been a steady release of new shows, it now seems that new series and TV shows are dropping daily. For the 9 to 5 working viewers this makes it incredibly hard to keep track of everything. Luckily, that’s where we can help out! Regardless of the genre, you prefer, here are some new shows guaranteed to offer a little bit of everything you love.
Amazon’s Rings Of Power (Sep 2)
It probably won’t come as much of a surprise for many to see this one at the very top of the list. The series has no doubt been dangled to expecting fans for months. The series is already slated for 5 seasons and is a prequel to the original books and movies.
With the first season containing 8 episodes, there will be plenty of time for multiple storyline development. While the series will take place thousands of years before any of Tolkien’s previous works, it should be more than obvious that it’ll follow a similar fantasy feel and atmosphere.
This does necessarily mean you need to be a fan of fiction or even previous works to enjoy what this new series will roll out. If you can get past the scenery and characters, you’ll see that this series really offers a foundation that anyone can get behind. In fact, this very foundation is what
Tolkien has built all his previous works around. It’s the simple struggle of good versus evil. All his previous works offer this type of foundation and so will this new series. That means there will be plenty of backstabbing, envy, and redemption to follow.
Expect a pristine world attack by a new emerging evil that never rests. Right from the very beginning, the series will give off a biblical atmosphere, where some of the world’s most intriguing and greatest tales of betrayal have unfolded.
Despite the sheer brutality and realness of many biblical stories, this series is family-friendly and will likely remain so throughout its life. The great thing about approaching the story in this structural manner is that it virtually provides a blank canvas for Tolkien and his creative brain trusts to take the series anywhere they deem worthy.
It also means the new fan doesn’t need to spend 50 hours, poring over the previous works to be completely tuned in to this new universe. That said, some very important things will take place in this first season that won’t play out until the 5th and final season, so you’ll certainly not want to miss a second if you plan on enjoying the entire thing.
Hulu’s Wedding Season (Sep 8)
If you are a mystery/thriller enthusiast, you’ve no doubt noticed the leaps and bounds Hulu has made in the genre over the last couple of months. They have done it once again, but more unique than ever before.
Although the series is very much based on mystery, suspense, and build-up, it could easily be considered a multi-genre platform. It’ll take you on one of the wildest rides of your life, down a path of two people on the run while trying to uncover the brutal murder behind their family.
The 8-episode first season introduces fans to Katie and Stefan, who just happen to fall in love while attending a wedding. Katie already has a fiancé and the two begin a tumultuous affair. Fast forward two months and she’s now walking down her very own aisle to her new husband. At about this time, all havoc breaks out and her family is brutally murdered. Who do you suspect as suspect number one? Of course, it’s Stefan, the guy she was having an affair with.
Stefan, on the other hand, assumes that Katie is the culprit. As a fan, you’ll be left guessing, plotting, and probing the possibilities.
The series surely promises a fun ride along a murky and muddled comedic murder mystery where your two main suspects, who are both likely innocent, are constantly pointing fingers at each other. The laughs will only roll out more and more as the stakes only grow higher than ever.
Last Light On Peacock (Sep 8)
Peacock is still the new kid on the block, but some of their originals have paved the way for what is sure to be a future classic. Last Light probably won’t fall into that list, but it certainly creates a frighteningly scary platform for a real scenario that Americans might be soon facing. Picture this; it’s about a time when the world starts to run dangerously low on oil. Not just the big players like the United States, Russia, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, but the entire world!
While the first season only offers 5 episodes, it does set the stage for plenty of suspense. The main players are the Yeats family, and they will find themselves in separate parts of the world when the crap literally hits the fan. The patriarch, petrol-chemist Andy, is in the Middle East, with his wife, Elena, and young son, Sam, in Paris.
Their teenage daughter just happens to be alone and stranded in London. This certainly sets the stage for a suspenseful trek through the unknown to what could eventually be a heartfelt, touching reunion. This promised-to-be action-packed series is a modern-day thriller that features real-life potential consequences.
It also doesn’t hurt that Matthew Fox dusted off his retirement to step back into the spotlight. Fox was a bit reason that the TV series Lost became Lost. He’ll have a lot to contribute here with his experience and acting chops.
The Calling From Peacock (Nov 10)
The fact that the tried and tested creator, David E Kelley, has chosen to work with the new kid on the block speaks volumes for the newly added streaming service. David could easily hang it up right now and still be recognized as one of the most iconic Hollywood names of this and past generations, but what fun would that be?
No one is going to question the fact that Kelley knows how to create highly suspenseful and entertaining TV content, but the crime genre will surely allow the epic creator to tap into all his talents.
This series already has a lot of anticipation and build-up behind it, as it is based on DA Mishani’s book series involving Detective Avraham. As if Kelley alone wasn’t enough of a contribution to the series, he will also be working alongside Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson and legendary musical composers Hans Zimmer and Steve Mazzaro. This series is stacked with a who’s who list of big, successful Hollywood names, and could easily become a major franchise for the new streaming service.
The series will stick strictly to the original storyline featured in DA Mishani’s book series which finds Avraham working as a police inspector for the Tel Aviv Police Force. While much of the story will remain the same, this TV adaptation will have Avraham working for the New York Police Department. The name of the main and many featured characters will remain.
Right now, most people are probably thinking, Okay, so what’s so new about a police detective investigating a modern-day criminal case? You would be right to think this, as there is plenty of similar series out there, but it is Detective Avraham’s deep sense of spirituality and religious principality that will steer the series. As the investigation unfolds for the worse Avraham will constantly find himself questioning his own humanity.
Hulu Introduces Welcome To Chippendales (Nov 22)
As of recent, streaming fans have seen many great Indian immigrants break out on the big stage. Whether it is top, new action chops, incredibly strong storytelling, or top-notch directing and producing, it seems that the Middle East is breeding nothing but pure talent. That’s exactly what fans can expect from lead, Somen “Steve” Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani) in Hulu’s new original series.
You don’t necessarily need to be a young, budding female to have heard of Chippendales. However, it is highly unlikely that they know the true story and intrigue behind the world’s greatest male stripping empire. That’s the exact story that will unfold in this one-time limited true crime saga. It was Banerjee that founded, established, and built the Chippendales into what it is today, although he failed horribly in two prior businesses.
The third time really was the lucky time for Banerjee, and he hit it big with his third venture.
Fresh off the popularity and praise of the limited series, Pam & Tommy, creator Robert Siegel offers his experience and insight to the cast and crew. He promises what will follow is a rollercoaster extravaganza fueled with sex, drugs, and envy. If his recent work on Pam &
Tommy is any indication, this will surely be one incredible, action-packed ride right to the top and back to the bottom.
Unfortunately, this won’t be the first time this incredible true story is told on the big screen, but the hit 2000 film “The Chippendales Murder” won’t be able to stand up to the likes of Kumail, Siegel, Jenni Konner, Matt Shakman, Emily V Gordon, Nora Silver, and series writer Rajiv Joseph.
All involved have their eye on the ultimate prize and this series will touch on many avenues where the hit film didn’t venture. At the very least, it’ll touch on these areas in a much more dramatic way. Mr. Banerjee is a bad, bad man and if you tune in, you’ll get to ride along with him through his highest highs and subsequent lowest lows. It is promised to be one heck of a ride!
