season 3 episode 1 lidia moonshine

You Try Reinventing Your Life In Your Forties Fu**ers – As this episode of Moonshine begins, Eleanor (Celia Owen) gets in touch with her mother, Lidia Bennett (Jennifer Finnigan). Eleanor confesses that she doesn’t want to go to college because she would rather explore her music. Lidia says that is a fabulous idea. Sometimes, the best education is no education. Lidia doesn’t think anyone will care in 30 years anyway. Terry has sex with Nora in the back of his squad car before she gets a message from her boss who loved her podcast. Ken Finley-Cullen (Peter MacNeill) receives an old-school postcard from his old-school wife. Sammy (Alexander Nunez) comes out and learns that his mom will be gone for a bit longer.

Ken urges Sammy to have some fun this summer. Oscar tells Rhian that she beat her time by a few seconds. He asks how it went at the OGBYN. Rhian (Anastasia Phillips) says they’ve been given the finger of approval. Oscar (Farid Yazdani) is thrilled to be able to hump again. Nora (Emma Hunter) returns to Lidia and tells her what happened with Terry. Rhian tells them she got a booking at the shore club for the May 2-4 party. Crystal and the others discuss the possibility of doing karaoke. Rhian begins handing out responsibilities to everyone. Then, she suggests cashing in while they still can with the resort being built next door. When Terry arrives, Lidia tries to hide from him. He catches her and questions whether she is trying to avoid him.

He reminds her that she is on house arrest so she needs to check in with her case worker regularly. She got off easy because she agreed to share what she knows about the marauders. Terry informs her that she needs to submit a pay stub in the next 48 hours. Nora finds her hosting the radio show later. Lidia wants her to ask Terry to ease up because she isn’t sure she can get a job in a town where everyone thinks she is a felon. Lidia confesses to doing something stupid. She tells her what happened before asking about a job. Sammy works on his accent before he travels abroad. A man approaches to see if Sammy will put lotion on his back for him. Ken plays cards with Jill and asks what they gave her for the strip of swamp.

She reveals that her cellmate in jail was the developer’s accountant. Ken argues that it is Moonshine territory even though they don’t have a deed for it. He worries that the construction will take business away from the Moonshine. Jill thinks he should sell it to the developers and cash out like she did. Lidia does her best to get a job. She even tries Happy Endings Elder Care where everyone gets a happy ending. Wes (JD Martin) tells Sammy that he is crashing in his van which is nearby. He invites Sammy to take a tour of his van. Oscar wants to have sex with Rhian. She gets upset and reminds him that she has a business to save. Crystal finds it convenient that Lidia needed a job when Crystal Clean was hiring.

Lidia talks about her ambition and how it hurt herself, her kids, and her family. Crystal tells Ryan (Tom Stevens) that she is worried about Lidia. She argues that Lidia shouldn’t be spending her time cleaning toilets. Ryan says she can count on him. Oscar asks Rhian if she wants to talk about what happened. When she finds the contract, she notices it is in Oscar’s handwriting. She questions what he has done because it has the name “WesWorld” on it. Rhian explains that he agreed to host a party for the enemy. They talk to Ken about ways to protect the land, including proving it is a historical site. Ken says they need to make the developers regret the day they sunk a penny into that land. He questions how they’re going to do that.

During the party, Rhian looks for Lidia. Ken and Oscar try to figure out which one is the developer. Ryan gets high with Lidia outside. Lidia insists this lifestyle is a choice and not a cry for help. Sammy joins them to say he let the guy think he was a low-level aristocrat. Inside, Terry asks Nora if she has seen Lidia. Nora wishes everyone would just leave her alone. She suspects Terry is intimated by her career. As Sammy works at the bar, he sees the man from earlier so he tries to hide. Wes comes over to tell Sammy that he hasn’t stopped thinking about him. Sammy has to come clean about not being from Oxford. His dad said he was boring so he tried not to be, but he feels stupid about it now.

Wes surprises him by saying this is his party and his name is Weston Lonergan. He is the developer. Katie (Kirstin Howell) joins Nora in the bathroom. She explains that she brokered a deal that will put Foxton on the map. Katie says her client brought his own karaoke machine. Rhian catches up with Lidia and tries to get her help. Lidia looks at the pictures of the development. Rhian and Ryan suspect she knows something that could save them. Lidia grabs a marker and begins drawing on the pictures in front of her. They start worrying that she is fixing it. Nora comes over to say they need to go. Oscar tells Ken about his problems with Rhian right now. Crystal tells Lidia that she is fired so she can spread her wings and fly. Lidia takes the microphone from Oscar and calls out Wes.

She tells him why his design is bad and why the structure will collapse. Lidia insists her family won’t stand back and let it happen. She jumps into the audience only to crash to the floor. Ken thinks the whole family is doomed. Jill urges him to just sell the place already. After the women leave the club, they talk about their mother who never said it would be so hard. Rhian ends up falling asleep. Nora gets a call from Andreas who learns about her day. He thinks that could be her new podcast. Wes tells Sammy that he believes his design sucks and he can’t tolerate that. They end up kissing while Oscar sings behind them. The next day, Lidia imagines ideas for the development.

Moonshine Review

The third season of Moonshine sets up a potential showdown between Lidia and Wes. His development could potentially run Moonshine, but Lidia and the gang won’t go down without a fight. The cast has returned so individuals who liked these characters are going to be thrilled to see them back. Truthfully, Moonshine is going to be a series that some people will like and others will hate. It’ll depend on the viewers’ preferences and whether they enjoy the type of humor presented here.

Personally, I’d have to side with the viewers who don’t really enjoy Moonshine although certain aspects are better than others. When the episode focused on its serious side, it showed some promise. Unfortunately, this isn’t a series I could recommend and I probably couldn’t sincerely enjoy it.

The humor didn’t work for me because I found it a little too juvenile and annoying. Aside from a few serious moments, the characters were obnoxious. Many of the storylines set up in this episode have been done many times before so there isn’t much in terms of originality. Viewers who find the comedy scenes humorous will undoubtedly enjoy Moonshine’s third season much more than I did.

This episode scores a 5 out of 10. Recaps of Moonshine can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising on Reel Mockery here.
