Mercedes-Benz USA and Mattel Partner To Create Toy Car To Destroy Gender Stereotypes

Research has shown that many girls would prefer a tea set over a toy car. Researchers believe that their decision is made in part due to beliefs formed at a young age that some toys are for boys and others for girls. Mercedes-Benz USA and Mattel have entered into a partnership with the intention of challenging these perceptions. They will attempt to show children that they can aspire to be and do anything they want when there are no limits.

Mercedes-Benz will be giving thousands of girls in the United States a die-cast Matchbox replica of the Mercedes-Benz 220SE. It commemorates Ewy Rosqvist’s historic Argentinian Grand Prix performance. The car not only shattered world records, but it also helped to eliminate the idea that women could not compete. Mercedes-Benz has also launched a short film to celebrate International Women’s History Month. The film can be found here.
