Mayor Of Kingstown Season 2 Episode 9 Recap

Peace In The Valley – The episode opens at Don’s Diner. The door is locked so Mayor Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) and Milo Sunter (Aidan Gillen) can talk without interruptions. Milo suggests a trade, his bonds for Iris (Emma Laird). Mike demands he takes the bonds and leave Kingstown. Milo assures him that he’s only there for the bonds before threatening to kill him if he’s betrayed.

Deverin “Bunny” Washington (Tobi Bamtefa) visits a gun shop. The gun shop shopkeeper (Pete Burris) offers to sell him a 10mm handgun for $799 if his paperwork clears. Bunny pretends to make a call to his wife when a van smashes into the storefront. Several armed men hop out and start smashing displays while Bunny holds the shopkeeper and his son (Mitchell Warren) at gunpoint. Bunny smashes the surveillance system before heading out with the loot.

Kyle McLusky (Taylor Handley) greets Mike with a hug. Mike informs him of his deal with Milo. Kyle says Iris was at the club. Mike reminds him of what he said about not trying to be a hero. Kyle asks what is Iris to him. Mike admits to having no idea but would like to see her free of Milo and Kingstown. Kyle tells him about working with Bunny to keep the gangs from putting a hit on him. Mike says he needs to get Bunny released. Kyle says he’s already out.

Mariam McLusky (Dianne Wiest) asks Mike to help Jacob Reed (Jake Schur) at Anchor. Mike agrees to try. Captain Kareem (Michael Beach) tells Mike that the DA’s office ordered Bunny to be released. Mike informs him of the Aryan Brotherhood putting pressure on Jacob. Kareem agrees to look for him. Ian (Hugh Dillon) alerts him about the gun shop robbery. He says the owner’s description of the suspect matches Bunny. Mike admits to having no idea Bunny was released. Ian warns that they’ll grind him in the dirt, regardless of their deal. Stevie (Derek Webster) reminds him that he can’t handle stuff on the street. Mike agrees to speak with Bunny. Ian says Robert (Hamish Allan-Headley) has been cleared.

Mike thanks Evelyn Foley (Necar Zadegan) for releasing Bunny and dropping the charges on Robert. She asks if he believes she would help him and his “monsters” before threatening to stop them if she’s elected DA. She informs him of informant, Ben Morrisey’s (Blake Shields) murder.

Mike asks Bunny if he took out a gun shop less than 24 hours after his release. Bunny says he appreciates his sticking to their deal but Robert has to pay for the brothers that died in the riot. Mike warns him that they’ll turn his neighborhood into a parking lot. Bunny assures him that he’s not asking for his permission.

Jacob is harassed by two Aryan Brotherhood inmates while unloading a laundry truck. When the laundry truck driver pulls away, he feels a thump. He jumps out of the truck to see Jacob’s lifeless body lying on the ground.

Kyle is on the phone with Carney (Lane Garrison) with Tracy (Nishi Munshi) approaches. He apologizes for forgetting dinner. She informs him of her decision to go stay with her father before inviting him to join her. When he refuses, she leaves. He calls Mike to tell him that Jacob committed suicide. Mike relays the information to Mariam. She says Jacob had an infant son.

Mike is in his office when he receives a call from Iris. She asks to meet tomorrow at midnight at a park on 20 Mile Road. When she hangs up, Milo takes the phone.

Stevie tells Mike that he needs to convince Bunny to play ball. Mike asks if they expect Bunny to give up $25 million worth of guns. Ian demands the guns be turned over now before the AFT gets involved. Mike asks Robert if he killed Morrisey. Robert denies any involvement in Morrisey’s murder before saying that’s a messed up thing to say to a friend.

Mike warns Bunny that ATF is onto him. He suggests wiping the guns clean before turning them over. Bunny reminds him of how he put him in a hole. Mike admits to trusting the wrong people. Bunny tries to make a deal for the guns but Mike refuses.

Joseph (George Tchortov) pays Iris for three hours. When she curses him, he slams her across the room. He tries to suffocate her with a pillow when she stabs him in the neck. He falls backward and she repeatedly stabs him in the neck until he’s unconscious.

Robert is on the phone with Mike when a motorcycle approaches. The rider fires a shot but misses. Mike says there is a hit out on him when more motorcycles approach. Robert gives him his location as more motorcycles are approaching. He fires his weapon but is injured. His assailants beat him before fleeing the scene. Mike arrives to find him lying on the ground. The police arrive as the episode comes to an end.

  1. Mike spends all his days running around a rust belt town, trying to appease and equalize the balance of power between black/white/Mexican gangs, cops, prison guards, organized crime, the ATF and the DA and for what? Who the hell pays his salary for this? He wakes up, pays in a tight suit, and sighs to himself “Just another day in the old grind… I wonder what today has in store for me?”

Dumb show. I’ll be glad when it’s over.

    1. Makes you wonder who voted him in at this point. What is up with Bunny wanting Robert out of the blue? The whole thing with Joseph doesn’t make sense either since he’d be a pimp without product by beating his women bloody. How is she making $4k every day in such a small town?

It’s a shame Renner wasn’t allowed to go out on a high note though. Even if he could do it in a wheelchair, it wouldn’t sense without a much better script and that seems unlikely at this point.
