Mammals Season 1 Finale Recap

Jamie and Whale Mammals Amazon Prime Video

Mammals Season 1 Episode 6 Recap

The episode begins with Jeff Wilson (Colin Morgan) loading his rifle before heading to the woods. A stag approaches as he holds the muzzle against his head. As he fires a shot, the stag collapses on the ground.

Amandine receives an invitation that reads, “8pm here. I know who Paul is.”

Jeff takes a set on the ground across from a homeless girl (Megan Pemberton). He informs her of his book, about animal’ nervous systems, that only sold 62 copies. She asks if her dog, Spud, is happy. He tells her that he supposes so if Spud isn’t in pain, hungry, or thirsty. When he takes a drink of alcohol, she asks if he’s happy. He sarcastically claims to always be thirsty and in pain. She asks if he wants some acid. He reluctantly says yes.

Jamie Buckingham (James Corden) informs Lue Wilson (Sally Hawkins) of his plans to meet Amandine Buckingham (Melia Kreiling) later tonight.

Jeff tosses his jacket and briefcase in the canal before stealing a bike.

Lue daydreams of being Madeline. She tells Pierre (Mido Hamada) that when she relocated to Paris at 16, she took a job in a biscuit factory. After saying she’s a “genius,” he warns that Coco Chanel (Cecile Fisera) will destroy her if she gets too big. She says the kids need to be picked up, he asks what kids.

Jeff starts to break down.

Lue admits to knowing Jeff did something terrible when Coco barges in. Coco tells them that they’re “traitors” before shooting Pierre in the forehead. After fleeing, Lue encounters Jeff standing on the bridge railing. He tells her to leave him alone. She assures him that it isn’t too late. She asks if they know each other.

Back to the present – Jane (Nina Toussaint-White) and Lue close up before leaving.

Amandine assures Jamie that it was his baby. He asks how she’d know. She asks if he has any questions. He says Jason, Dave, and Paul, his best friend and sister’s husband, Jeff. He admits to busting her grandfather’s violin. She tells him that she already knew. Removing his ring, he lays his wedding band on the table. She asks if he’d like to know why. He sarcastically asks why she’d trade everything they had for “cheap fu**s.” She asks how would he feel if it wasn’t Jeff. Irate, he assures her that one affair is “catastrophic.” After describing sex with Dave as “okay,” she says Jason was into foreplay and fantasy and Jeff was good. Sitting beside him, she tells him that cheating is bad but it’s only sex. She suggests monogamy is difficult.

She reminds him of their manifesto over seven years ago. Flipping on the TV, she says this was last year. We see her torching their manifesto before adjusting the camera to show Jamie and a woman in their bathrobes behind her. He runs outside in the direction of a loud noise to see a whale lying in the middle of the street. He turns just in time to see Amandine get inside a vehicle.

Lue greets Jeff as he walks through the door. They kiss before he goes for wine. Jamie calls to tell Jeff that they need to talk as the episode comes to an end.

Mammals Synopsis

As Jeff prepared to end his life, a stag appears. Instead of shooting himself, he shot the stag.

Jeff confided his pain in a homeless girl before tossing his coat and briefcase in the canal.

In a daydream, Coco Chanel kills Pierre and tries to kill Lue after discovering their affair. Lue encountered Mark preparing to jump from a bridge after fleeing Coco’s rage. She convinced him to reconsider suicide.

Amandine told Jamie that the baby was his but he was questionable. He came clean about destroying her grandfather’s violin. She explained her sex with Dave as “okay” and Jason as “better.”

In the video from 7 years prior, Amandine and Jamie write their manifesto. In another video from 1 year prior, Amandine torched their manifesto from a balcony on a multi-story building. Her camera focused in on another balcony where Jamie was with an unknown woman. Jamie poured them a drink before escorting the woman inside.

A whale landed in the middle of the town.

Mammals Review

The finale answered some, produced more, and left questions unanswered. It turned out, Paul was actually Jeff who perceived to support Jamie with the shock of Amandine’s affairs.

While Jamie brought Amandine’s affairs to the forefront, Lue chose feigned ignorance of Jeff’s infidelity. The daydreaming was probably her way of dealing with it.

I must admit, there were times when the urge to slap Amandine’s smug face was overwhelming. This was until the video surfaced of Jamie and the woman. It seems the video was recorded from Amandine’s phone, meaning it wasn’t her.

The expression on his face was very telling. He probably thought Amandine was in the dark about his affair the entire time. This could explain the multiple affairs. It could’ve been revenge or just her way of dealing with it.

The show ends on a cliffhanger, leaving a lot to be desired. It’s questionable if Amazon will greenlight a second season.

Not a barnburner but decent, nonetheless. The finale deserves a 6.8. Get more Mammals recaps here. Support Reel Mockery by clicking the link.
