Things Begin Where They End – The show begins with Maggie (Rebecca Rittenhouse) doing psychic readings. Her first client is Lucy (Allison Acosta) who is accompanied by Danielle (Kat Purgal). Maggie says she sees a former romance, a man with the initials, JM. Danielle angrily accuses her of sleeping with her fiancé, Jason. Lucy tries to convince her that Maggie is crazy. After Danielle angrily stomps away, Lucy demands Maggie to know how she did it. She claims to have the ability to see things.
Maggie immediately shuts Benjamin “Ben” Julio Morales (David Del Rio) down. She suggests he try a guy who is exhibiting wedgie behavior. He tells her that the psychic is more appealing. She explains how psychic abilities deter her from pursuing a relationship. As she walks away, he calls her a “murderer” for not telling him the cause of his death.
Maggie nods off when Ben suddenly reappears. He tells her the Wedgie Guy (Tim Curcio) is named Jason Jennifer Leigh. She reminds him that she is working. He tries to convince her to have a tequila shot. She explains how his chair is only for clients. He agrees to have a reading. Placing her hands over his, she starts the reading but is immediately interrupted. He continues to interrupt with small talk. She visualizes him in love, dancing, moving, road-tripping, and having a baby. When she appears in the vision, she is shocked back to reality. He asks if everything is okay. Without speaking, she grabs the bottle of tequila before rushing away.
Maggie and Angel (Ray Ford) discuss Ben’s reading. After validating the woman was truly her, he says it is possible for psychics to envision themselves in someone else’s future. She reminds him of how difficult relationships have been for her. While he explains how envisions are supposed to happen, not be sensible, she rolls her eyes. He warns her that the future always happens regardless.
Maria (Kerri Kenney) asks Maggie if she is dating anyone before changing the subject to acai berry. Maggie assures her that dating is a game she always loses. She sarcastically asks if she plans to be alone for the rest of her life. They briefly discuss a tenant’s strange behavior involving bees. Jack (Chris Elliott) points out that their tenant agreement bans pets. After assuring her that she is good with being alone, she describes acai berry as a “scam.” Maria promises to not invest $1 in acai berry. Maggie imagines her mom putting a bag of acai berries in her basket. Jack rushes her up to ensure they don’t miss their favorite bagger.
Maggie visits Smoke Tree Yoga. Louise “Lou” (Nichole Sakura) asks if she is there for an intervention. When Maggie asks, “Why,” Lou comes clean about drinking while teaching yoga. After Lou takes a gulp from her water bottle, Maggie follows suit. Whispering, Maggie tells her about her vision in which she was a wife and mother. Lou suggests she may enjoy being a mom. Maggie asks her to explain how yoga works. Lou tries to convince a man to place his yoga man beside hers.
Lou tells Maggie about her date with a lawyer, Glenn. She says the date may be the perfect time to see what meat is in his refrigerator. Maggie envisions Lou crying in a restroom. Lou asks what she is seeing. Maggie reminds her of their agreement in which she is banned from divulging her soulmate. Lou convinces her to accompany her to meet Glenn.
Lou breaks down after Glenn tells her of his plan to invest more time checking out Orlando. She claims to have been confused about Orlando who is actually Glenn’s boyfriend. Maggie suggests they research their former male classmates to see if their wives look like their mothers. She agrees to accept the offer as long as she has soft cheese. While leaving the bar, they encounter Ben. He invites them to join him and his sister for a drink. Pulling Lou off to the side, Maggie updates her on Ben. Lou convinces her to say.
Lou, Maggie, and Ben are having drinks when Amy (Angelique Cabral) approaches. Dave (Leonardo Nam) gives him a copy of Amy’s cookbook. Maggie asks if his sister is “eggless Amy.” She describes Amy and Dave as the “perfect match.” He says they work together. She assures him fate is impossible to ignore.
Maggie and Ben eat Chinese food. After a quick smooch, they pop open Chinese fortune cookies.
Maggie wakes up to find Ben in the kitchen. In a vision, Ben slips a ring on what seems like her finger but turns out to be Jessie (Chloe Bridges). When she jerks her hand back, he asks what’s wrong. She tells him it won’t work out between them. He asks her if he is to ignore the fun they have had because her vision says their relationship won’t work. She assures him that her vision is right before leaving.
Maggie informs her client (Max Saltarelli) that his rabbits won’t like taking a bath. Lou shows Maggie her new recuse dog. She admits not giving it much thought before adopting the dog. Maggie has a vision of Lou and her new dog sleeping side by side. She assures her that the dog is her soulmate. Lou asks her about Ben. She assumes he will hook up with a woman with brown hair. They are discussing why Jack refuses to permit Lou to move into their place when Jessie arrives. Maggie asks if they’ve met before. Jessie suggests she may have seen her online hair tutorials. Ben arrives with a box of his and Jessie’s things. Maggie questions the purpose of his visit. He informs her of his relationship with Jessie. She has a flashback of his reading in which he is with a brunette.
Jessie asks if they know each other. He admits to being Maggie’s client for a physic reading. Jessie claims to have some psychic abilities. Shocked, Amy greets them as the “people I’ve probably never met before.” Jessie tells them about her and Ben’s breakups, which ended when Ben received his fortune.
Lou invites Maggie down for pizza. Maggie points out that she envisioned her and Ben getting married. Lou welcomes her to “living in the moment.” She questions how she will ever handle Ben and Jessie living there. They join the others for pizza.
Maggie is surprised to discover Angel already knew about Ben and Jessie living in their duplex. He asks if “the pot found the lid.” She reminds him of his being her psychic. He abruptly ends the reading because her time has expired as the episode comes to an end.
Maggie Review
The dialogue is borderline infantile and uncreative. Nothing about the show is funny, more irritating than anything.
Character development was compromised by a very short episode. I was surprised by the time jumps. I understand the episodes are short but there are 13. Why break the show down into 13 episodes and risk integrity when there could’ve easily been four?
Ben and Maggie are likable characters. The acting is good with what the cast has to work with.
The premonitions cause some confusion as they come out of left field. By the end of the episode, I become accustomed to them.
The episode deserves a 5.5. Get more Maggie recaps here. Support Reel Mockery by clicking the link.
