Madam Series 1 Episode 5 Recap

Harry Madam Three and ThreeNow

The episode begins with Tui (Ariana Osborne) schooling the girls on the art of the fake orgasm. According to her, the key is to make it as real as possible, and doing so will almost guarantee a repeated visit.

While dropping Toby Leigh (Quinn Ashton) off at the center, Mack/MacKenzie Leigh (Rachel Griffiths) learns that she’s getting some heat from the other parents about a recently published article in the Northern Times. Noam Leigh (Angus Stevens) receives a similar reception from two skateboarders (Frankie Creagh-Leslie/Jack Tyler) while making his way to school.

Deziyah (Danielle Cormack) brings the article to everyone’s attention during David the Accountant’s (Toby Leach) seminar when she learns about it from Dion (Wesley Dowdell). This is when it is revealed that the article was actually Mack’s ideal, but it was not intended to bill her as a ‘white savior.’ It only takes Jules Varma (Rima Te Wiata) reading a few lines to see that’s exactly how she’s being billed and the girls don’t appreciate it. Matters only get worse when David returns to bring attention to the protesting Christians camped out in front of the motel. It doesn’t take long for Sharon (Kura Forrester) to join them.

Despite the protester’s presence doubling and their chants, all attention is drawn to the arrival of Harry (Matt Whelan). The girls are practically drooling over him and even though he didn’t make an appointment, Mack agrees to let Tui service him. The girls are even less happy about this.

Although Tui is stunned to learn that Harry is a virgin, she’s speechless after learning that his enormous penis is the reason. It is even later revealed to be too much for her to handle. Jaz (Johann Cosgrove) is the first to offer assistance but those plans get put on hold when she learns that her grandmother Mavis (Alison Quigan) is front and center at the protest. By this time, the spectacle has begun to attract media attention, and a Newshub reporter (Ryan Bridge) is even onsite conducting a live interview.

With Jaz now out of the picture, Goldie (Carmel McGlone), Amethyst (Moana Johnson), and Fiyah (Eden Hart) attempt to service Harry but fail. It’s certainly not from lack of trying. At the same time, Mack turns to the authorities for assistance with the protestors but fails. Matters only get worse from there when Noam not only learns about the article but sees everything firsthand while paying an unexpected visit to the motel.

As Mack chases and pleads with Noam, something about the chanting protestors gives her the idea of using Harry’s dilemma to show the media why their profession is needed. It not only works but even Sharon agrees to back off a bit.

The episode ends with Mack apologizing to Noam for not telling him about the article and appears surprisingly forgiving.

Madam Review

Not a bad episode and I did enjoy Harry’s dilemma and the protestors were a welcome addition. Perhaps the series is growing on me but I am starting to appreciate it more and more each episode. I can by no means say that it is groundbreaking or superb but it’s honestly not bad. I do find it a bit strange that Mack’s husband isn’t more involved in the series. I am not sure what that’s all about. Maybe he was an absentee father, who knows. Anyhow, I’d give this episode a hard 5.7 out of 10. I could have done without the white savior references but other than that, not so bad.
