Blind Spot – The episode begins with Mickey Fitzpatrick (Amanda Seyfried) telling Truman Dawes (Nicholas Pinnock) about what Paula (Perry Mattfeld) told her. She also tells him that she didn’t take him to Dock McLathcie’s (OT The Real) place because she was afraid of what Kacey Fitzpatrick (Ashleigh Cummings) might have told Dock about her. This causes her to remember back to 2005 when Gee (John Doman) took her and young Kacey (Evelyn Davis) to the Police Youth Club. While there, Kacey runs off with Young Paula (Maggie Toomey), and young Mickey (Cate Elefante) meets Officer Simon Cleare (Matthew Del Negro).
Later that evening over dinner, Mickey tells Thomas Fitzpatrick (Callum Vinson) that his father won’t be coming to his birthday party.
The following day, Truman returns to Mr. Winton’s (Russell G. Jones) place. Winton tells him that Dock’s old supplier burned down his abandoned building. Truman asks him about a cop using his badge to extort women. Winton tells him he’d be better off asking which cops weren’t using their badges to extort women.
Mickey heads to the coffee shop in the perp video and asks the barista if he recognizes the guy in the video. He does not. When she asks to check his camera, he tells her that someone broke it last week but he failed to file a report. He then shows her footage of why he didn’t file a report.
Mickey tells Truman about her visit to the coffee shop and he tells her about his visit to Winton. The conversation doesn’t last long because Mickey receives a domestic call. The call leads her to a residence where a man is beating a woman and a small child. He ends up coming after Mickey as well and she has to hit him with her Taser. She also ends up arresting him. When all is said and done, a social worker (Jeaniene Green) shows up and takes Colleen Kelly’s (Jillian Louis) kids away. This causes Mickey to have a flashback.
When Mickey gets back to the station with the perp, she receives a call from Truman. He tells her that his buddy at Delaware PD said that Jimmy Scanlon did have a bank account that his wife didn’t know about. He was also apparently receiving some very hefty payments from a company called SOK Holding. Jimmy’s last text came from a woman named Melissa and it was about meeting at the usual spot. Truman tells Mickey to check and see if Jimmy has ever been busted for solicitation while he looks into SOK Holdings and Jimmy’s account. After getting 0 results from the search, Mickey briefly runs into Eddie Lafferty (Dash Mihok), who says that he is beginning to doubt himself, and Sergeant Ahearn (Patch Darragh) is constantly on him. Mickey tells him to keep at it and follow protocol.
Gee is playing poker with his friends when Mickey shows up and asks if he’ll come to Thomas’ birthday party. He says that he’ll come. When Twohey (Don Sparks) begins playing banjo it causes Mickey to flashback to 2007 when she went to a concert with Officer Cleare and Kacey didn’t show up. Later that night, Mickey returns home to find out that Kacey came home drunk and broke the window. Gee blames it all on her.
While making gift bags for Thomas’ party, Truman tells Mickey what he learned about SOK Holding. Mickey mentions her friend Dr. Aura Williams (Britne Oldford) and using her husband to find out what Jimmy was doing for SOK. Truman tells her that she has to be careful. She says that she can trust Aura. This talk eventually leads to them deciding to check in with the deceased girl’s next of kin.
Sometime later, Mickey speaks to Aura about having her husband look into SOK Holding. She agrees to talk to him. Aura also gives Mickey a gift to give to Thomas. After this, Mickey stops by the Yoon’s house and leaves a message for them to contact her.
At Thomas’ birthday party, Mickey runs into two parents who mention Thomas not attending school the next semester. Mickey blames it on her job and the need for Thomas to be closer. After the conversation, Mickey has a flashback to 2009 when Officer Cleare encourages her to better her education despite Kacey. After the memory, Simon shows up at Thomas’ party. This causes a whole dispute in front of everyone and Simon and Gee end up getting into a tussle in the parking lot. Mickey ends up seeing Simon with another woman and a baby.
Later that evening, Mickey apologizes to Thomas for what happened at the party. He asks her why Gee hates Simon. She tells him that Gee also hated her dad. Not long after this, Mickey receives a call from Mrs. Yoon (Chuja Seo). She calls Truman and tries to get him to go with her but he lies and says that he is having dinner with his girls when he is really gambling.
Mrs. Yoon tells Mickey that Taylor Yoon (Emily Hong) stopped talking to her because she thought she was judging her. Mrs. Yoon doesn’t recognize the names Melissa or Jimmy. While looking at old childhood pictures, Mickey realizes that Taylor went to the Police Youth Club.
After meeting with Mrs. Yoon, Mickey returns to the Police Youth Club where she has a flashback to 2009. In the flashback, she catches Paula and Kacey smoking and tries to get them to come inside. They only mock and make fun of her for being so stuck up.
After the memory, Mickey looks at the yearly photos for the Youth program and calls Truman to ask him to meet her. When Truman shows up, she shows him the yearly photo of Taylor at the Police Youth Club. As it turns out Elizabeth O’Connor (Isabelle Poloner) also went to the Police Youth Club and Simon was their mentor. This is where the episode ends.
Long Bright River Review
If Mickey was underage, Simon may be a pedophile, but it would be too obvious if he was the killer. I seriously doubt Truman is the killer because they are making him too goody-goody. So, who could the killer be? I guess that’s still yet to be determined. Either way, this wasn’t a horrible episode. It was a bit slow and I could have done without all the flashbacks, but other than that, there really isn’t much for me to complain about. I’d have to give it a 5.5 out of 10.
