The episode starts with Emma reading to Lizzie. The pair discuss the upcoming inquest, before Leslie Trotwood delivers Charlie a drink at the jail. Leslie confronts Charlie about his criminal background and betraying his comrades, before departing. At the inquest, Leslie takes up for Lizzie and insists she was defending herself. With that, Judge Franklin (Allan Royal) declares it self defense and allows Lizzie to walk free.
Emma (Clea DuVall) speaks to Leslie outside and thanks him. After speaking about their past troubles, Leslie insists he loves Emma, before he proposes and she says yes. Meanwhile, Lizzie speaks to her attorney, who tells her all about Charlie and his past. Marshal (Jeff Wincott) pays Charlie a visit. The pair agree to work together to bring down Lizzie. Emma meets up with Lizzie at the restaurant and tells her about the proposal. Lizzie offers to move them into one of the properties on the Borden Estate.
Lizzie returns and collects the chest. She overhears Charlie and Marshal discussing her. Chester Phipps (Rhys Coiro) takes photos, before Lizzie approaches him and questions about Skipjack, who enters. She tells Skipjack that Marshal and Charlie are on the way there to question him about Spencer. Lizzie is forced to give up 50%, in order to keep him quiet. They enter and leave, without noticing Lizzie. Leslie and Emma talk about their wedding, before Lizzie interrupts.
Lizzie insists she is thrilled for them and says they should use their father’s fortune to pay for their wedding. The trio contemplate a spring wedding, before Emma mentions a photographer, which gives Lizzie an ideal. She inspects the photo of Spencer and instantly recognizes it as the work of Chester Phipps, before she presents Emma with their mother’s wedding dress. Meanwhile, Charlie and Marshal interrogate Skipjack (Bradley Stryker). He instantly caves in and admits he hid the body for Lizzie. Giving up the location takes a little more convincing.
Chester receives a visit from Lizzie, who questions about his line of work and the photo of Spencer. She forces Chester to guide her to the body. Charlie and Marshal attempt to get Skipjack a full pardon for his crimes, so he can testify against Lizzie. Charlie is ridiculed for stealing state files. He returns to the motel to get the files and encounters Isabel Danforth (Olivia Llewellyn), who has been beaten by her husband. Charlie flies off the handle and beats up Ezekiel (John Ralston), before continuing on his way.
On the way, Lizzie speaks to Chester about his nude pictures and his wife’s reaction, if she were to find out. He suggests she would stay, if she knew. The pair finally make it to Spencer’s body. Lizzie forces Chester to help her get rid of the body. Meanwhile, Skipjack signs the confession, despite receiving no protection. He takes them to the location of Spencer’s body, but it is already gone. Skipjack tells them that Phipps is the only other person, who knew about Spencer’s body.
Lizzie and Chester finish disposing of the body and agree not to tell anyone. Of course, she doesn’t believe him and sets him on fire. Skipjack tells his cop buddies about Phipps. Skipjack is threatened, but has nothing of value to tell. Charlie returns to Isabel and gives her a big kiss, before they make love. Charlie insists the pair should flee to Texas. He suggests he’ll get Lizzie, before they depart.
Lizzie and Emma pay a visit to the Minister (Stewart Arnott), but he tells them that the church is booked for 10 months. Of course, Lizzie believes he is only attempted to block a Borden from the church. After a little brainstorming, they decide to hold the wedding in Maplecroft. Charlie and Marshal pay a visit to Chester’s wife and tell her about his untimely death. Isabel watches her husband deal with some clients, before rushing to Charlie’s room. When she approaches the bed, Lizzie emerges from behind the door, with a big knife.
Marshal and Charlie are approached by Ezekiel at the jail. He complains about his wife, before the cops rush to the motel. They discover her dead, with a head between her legs. Emma comes down the stairs with her wedding dress on and impresses Lizzie.
Review
At this point, it is beginning to feel like this show isn’t going to a second season. Too many people are dying off too quick. For Lifetime, this is certainly a solid show, which is worth watch. The episode, although very predictable, was a fun watch. By no means was it groundbreaking, but it helped to move things along and built and ended a few relationships. For that, a 7 out of 10 is deserved.
