Leverage: Redemption Season 3 Episode 2 Recap

The Digital Frankenstein Job – The episode opens with a man entering a diner, confronting waitress Cheryl (Mia Frost). She reminds him of her restraining order and threatens to call the police. He pulls a gun on her. Mateo (Tevin Marbeth), a pediatric nurse, tackles him. During a struggle, the gun discharges, striking Mateo. Frank flees on foot. Cheryl rushes over to Mateo, who says he needed a caffeine fix. The scene switches to the trial, with Mateo explaining to the jury what happened. Frank’s attorney, Zoe (Kim Baptiste), objects to him identifying the ghost gun. Looking at her Mardi Grain Bourbon site, Judge Marlene Gannon (Rachael Harris) says sustained. Harry Wilson (Noah Wyle) asks to qualify his witness’s expertise. She orders him to move on to the next question. Elton (Satya Nikhil Polisetti) questions if Gannon hates them and/or their case. In the seating area, a woman texts on her phone and slips out of the courtroom. Steve Pointer (Andy Cohen) tells the jury that his company, CovertCraft sells 3D printed gun kits and no background check is required. Harry criticizes him for selling the gun used to shoot his client. Steve reminds the court that CovertCraft sells kits, not guns. Holding up the ghost gun, Harry argues that he sells kits capable of firing a bullet. Zoe objects to him badgering her witness. Gannon says sustained and issues Harry a warning. After court, Elton is optimistic about the trial. Harry warns it would hardly matter if Gannon threw out the verdict. He describes Mardi Grain Bourbon as “awful” and insists she could be bought.

Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane) tells Harry that Breanna Casey (Aleyse Shannon) said he was taking a beating in court. She denies the allegation. Eliot shows them her emoji texts. Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman) is visiting Astrid in London. The crew sends Steve a fake Rolex watch and a note – “A royal thank you from the Sultan for your patronage.” He locks it in the safe when a calendar reminder – meeting with Militia Mountain Man – pops up on his phone. Breanna utilizes bots to boost the Militia Mountain Man Video’s followers to 200k. At CovertCraft, Steve greets Eliot and holds out his hand. Eliot refuses to shake it. While Eliot tours the facility, Parker (Beth Riesgraf) accesses Steve’s office via a ceiling vent. Steve shows Eliot his latest ghost gun model. Eliot asks about the trial. Steve assures him it will go away because the judge is sympathetic and provides a demonstration of his gun. Seeing a guard approaching Steve’s office, Eliot creates a distraction to give Parker more time to crack the safe and takes a bump to the head.

Parker gives Harry a file from Steve’s safe. It’s proof that Steve donated thousands to Gannon’s reelection campaign days before his trial started. He also treated Gannon to an all-paid vacation and acquired her mother’s house. Laughing, Harry says what Steve did was legal, and bribery is nearly impossible to prove. Breanna creates a composite image, Frank “Frankenstein.” They plan to utilize it to trap Gannon in a bribery scheme to get a mistrial. At Mardi Grain Bourbon, Eliot argues that his Old Magnolia casks are better than Mardi Grain’s. A woman says they utilize recycled chopsticks for their casks. At a pub, Breanna turns Frankenstein into an animated figure in her pitch video. At Mardi Grain, Gannon tells Eliot Old Magnolia casks never survived prohibition but if his are genuine, it could be a game changer for the buyer. He demands $20k in cash for each of the 10 casks.

Sophie returns from London. Breanna shows her fake articles outlining Frank’s success. Investors are itching to get in on the deal. Billionaire Rick Bellamy (Jack Tynan) calls to congratulate Frank. Utilizing her digital Frank, Breanna tells him about CovertCraft’s 3D gun used in a shooting. She warns that it could interfere with their launch. Rick and Gannon belong to the same country club. Later, Rick sets up a virtual meeting with Gannon and Breanna’s Frank and bots – Dennis and Phillip. She utilizes Frank to express their concerns about CovertCraft. Rick interrupts and insists on speaking with Gannon. In a private chat, He insists she should be grateful for what he did for her and warns of what will happen if the press gets wind of her donations. Gannon invites Frank to her impending fundraiser.

Greg (Henry Bazemore Jr.) attacks Tim (Christoph Sanders) for putting too much chlorine in the pool. Parker stuns him with a Taser. Breanna asks him to be a body double. Sophie and Eliot fill a Bourbon Street cask with bourbon. Parker introduces Tim to Harry, who is pretending to be Richard Chance. Gannon overhears Sophie and Eliot discussing the casks. He tells her there are other interested buyers. After Sophie leaves, Gannon reminds Eliot of their deal and promises to give him the cash at her fundraiser tomorrow. Parker and Breanna prepare Tim for his meeting with Gannon.

At the fundraiser, Gannon rants about right and wrong. She tells Harry and her supporters that she was a law clerk when she married Marlon, a superior court judge. Harry forces down a swig of Gannon bourbon. Parker and Breanna communicate with Tim via an earpiece. Tim introduces himself as Frank Stanford and offers to introduce her to his East Coast circle. She leaves to greet her supporters. He takes a swig of Gannon’s bourbon and quickly spits it back into the glass. Steve greets Tim and asks how he is navigating the new international tariffs. Tim says you have to be a predator, with a short demonstration. Steve admits to having doubts about Tim but no longer. Holding up his fist, he says for capitalism. A short time later, Harry finds Tim and the cash gone. Gannon knows he is gone as well. Steven recalls warning her that Frank wasn’t to be trusted. Parker says the money is still there. Breanna hacks into Tim’s phone as he is calling Eastway Bank. Harry calls the Eastway Bank manager. Steve learns CovertCraft stock is falling. Sophie introduces herself as Constance Bowling, a certified bourbon steward. Eliot gets strangled on Gannon bourbon. Elsewhere, Tim is on the phone with EastWay Bank about the foreclosure on his mother’s home. He ignores a call from Gannon.

Harry informs Tim that the cash is counterfeit. Eliot apologizes to Steve about his outburst. Believing he is the Militia Man, Steve demands to know what he is doing at a judge’s fundraiser. Eliot says justice is a thin strand that keeps the walls of chaos from bursting open. He offers to show Steve something very dear to him but steps away to speak with Gannon about his supposed exploits. Gannon says she’s trying to get him the cash. She asks him not to go. Eliot returns to Steve and asks him about surgical training. Breanna yells at Tim to ask why he didn’t tell them what was going on. Tim says his mom’s medical bills left her broke. He’s been listening to all this self-help stuff to try to get rich. Tim worries the judge will realize he’s a fraud. Breanna tells him that he can do this. Harry is with her. Breanna tells Tim that the algorithm picked him for a reason. Tim comes out. He says math picked him and math is never wrong. Gannon approaches Tim who asks if they should make a deal. If she can get the ghost gun case settled, she’ll get $200,000. Steve bursts in and claims Tim is trying to bring him down. He intends to take the bag because it’s evidence against Tim.

Steve says he’s going to call the FBI and tell them about his bribe. Eliot runs into Steve and tries to prevent him from leaving. Steve brushes by him and leaves. Eliot wonders if anyone has an idea. Steve meets Special Agent Finch and begins telling him about Tim. Steve is surprised when he finds out that the bag is full of guns. A flashback shows Eliot putting the gun in the bag. Finch tells Steve that he’s on his jury. Steve realizes he’s been set up. Eliot and the others are sitting at a table nearby. When Steve tries to flee, he’s arrested since Sophie called the police. In court, Marlene Gannon says she’s learned there was improper conduct between a party to the case and a member of the jury. She declares a mistrial. Steve is told he can’t go around bribing jurors. Harry tells Elton he’s going to get a shot at justice. He also gives him a foreclosure case for Tim. Harry says the lender didn’t file the right paperwork when they sold and resold his mom’s mortgage.

They talk about the possibility of Gannon being brought down by one little scandal. She finds members of the press outside her house. They ask her about a photo of her pool cleaner leaving her house with a bag full of cash. Gannon says that was a tech CEO and he tried to bribe her. She reminds them of what she stands for. Gannon looks over and sees Tim dressed as her pool cleaner. Gannon is locked out of her house. Later, Sophie reads a story about Frank dying in a heli-skiing accident in Alaska. Breanna says she had mourners make donations to the victims of gun violence. Sophie says she learned something from this. Regardless of how much technology changes, the ultimate con remains the same. It’s still two people sitting at the table having two different conversations.
