Laid Season 1 Episode 8 Finale Recap

AJ Laid Peacock

II Mostro Del Sesso – The finale begins with Ruby Yao (Stephanie Hsu) and Isaac (Tommy Martinez) engaged in an intense session of jean-on-jean dry humping. After a brief debate about foreplay, Ruby questions whether making out is worse than not making out. Isaac doesn’t appear to have an answer at the moment but claims he can go on doing this forever. It isn’t much longer before Ruby rushes off to finish up some last-minute matters before the party. As if in passing, Isaac mentions that his parents are excited to meet her tonight. Ruby asks if they are excited to meet her as their party planner. Isaac hints that he’s mentioned her to them in a different capacity.

Richie Diane (Michael Angarano) is right in the middle of a big sale when Ruby unexpectedly shows up at his work and throws him off his game. Despite Ruby’s chipper personality, it’s clear that Richie is frustrated with her. For all her faults, it doesn’t take Ruby long to see that Richie is jealous but it doesn’t go so well when she brings it up. Before the conversation ends on a bad note, she gives him the opportunity to reveal his feelings, but he chooses to remain silent.

Ruby spends the next several minutes trying to catch Doctor Debra (Elizabeth Bowewn) up on her situation but only manages to confuse her. She confuses her so badly that Debra releases her as a client. After Ruby signs the release forms, Debra practically tells her that she should think about someone else in her life for once. Debra is nearly left speechless when Ruby asks who that someone should be.

Richie stops by AJ’s apartment to return Ruby Hot Sauce and the rest of Ruby’s belongings. While he is there, Zack also shows up with a picture of the 1998 Rockettes, signed by all the living members. AJ appears touched but tells him to quit trying because she isn’t going to forgive him.

AJ receives a singing invitation while Ruby meets with Isaac’s parents. Both meetings go great but it is AJ who is surprised by her idol, Amanda Knox. Although Amanda claims that it was Zack who planned the evening, AJ knows it was Ruby. Ruby also initially denies arranging the meeting when AJ confronts her at Isaac’s parent’s party. The two eventually make up and are brought to tears. Isaac overhears AJ and agrees when she tells Ruby that she has to transfer the hex.

After the party, Jason (Finneas O’Connell) is the only person before Zack on Ruby’s list. There is a brief debate about who to transfer the hex to before the problem virtually solves itself. Ruby and the gang spend the next few minutes transferring the hex to Jill Blanch (Susan Berger).

One month after passing the hex, Ruby, AJ, and Zack join Jason at the end of a marathon to question him about his health. As it turns out, he hasn’t had any scares in the past month. After learning the good news, Ruby relays the information to Isaac, who wants to see her right away. They spend the next few minutes making out before going to bed together.  After going to bed several times, Ruby’s father (Francois Chau) shows up, claiming to have received her letter. The letter is in a Toyota envelope, suggesting that it was sent by Richie. Ruby’s father is right in the middle of telling her that they need to discuss her situation when AJ gets a text alert, confirming the death of Jason. This is where the episode ends.

Laid Finale Review

The finale felt kind of unfulfilling to me. I guess if the creators were going for a season 2, this is how they would want their audience to feel. It was Richie’s part of the story that felt so unfulfilled, but when you see the ending, I guess it makes sense. I am not sure how many seasons the original series ran for but it’s pretty obvious they are going for a second here. I enjoyed the series much more than I would have imagined I would but if it doesn’t get renewed, I wouldn’t be too upset. That said, I would give the finale a 5.8 out of 10.
