Help Me Pay My Bills – As this episode of Killing It begins, Craig (Craig Robinson) and Jillian (Claudia O’Doherty) sit down with Dean Trovia (Mike Mitchell) who thinks they should make an offer to Rodney. Craig has to give their lawyer, Dean, a pen so he can scratch his arm under the cast. Jillian asks what happened to his wrist. Dean says he saw a beautiful woman on the elevator so he tried to force his way in. Craig asks Jillian who she hired. She points out that Dean has billboards and blackmail is his specialty.
Jillian tells Dean that Rodney is trying to take their farm, but they’d like to maintain a minority ownership stake. Craig says it is named Henry’s Farm after his father. Dean thinks they should destroy this guy because they have all the leverage here. He changes his mind when he learns Craig and Jillian are being blackmailed. Regardless, Dean says he is a good lawyer so he’ll know what to do. He tries to flee into the elevator with his briefcase only to break his other arm. After the intro, Jillian and Craig tell Rodney Lamonca (Tim Heidecker) that they’d like to stay on as minority stakeholders.
Rodney offers to pay them a finder’s fee to make things right, but it turns out to be a joke. Craig hopes they can keep the farm named Henry since it won’t cost Rodney anything. Rodney takes Craig, Jillian, and Isaiah (Rell Battle) to the farm so he can change its name to Noah’s Plantation to honor his dead stepson. Craig gives them the keys to the office and truck. Jillian asks if they’ll be keeping Gabriel (Gabriel Fonseca) and Angel (Pedro Lopez) through harvest season. She gives Rodney Gabriel’s sunscreen and Angel’s EpiPen only for Rodney to throw the sunscreen to the ground and keep the EpiPen.
Isaiah says he managed to convince Rodney to pay them to stay on. Rodney laughs at Jillian getting $35,000 previously so Isaiah says they can keep her at that pay. In private, Jillian tries to convince Craig to take the offer, but he is adamant he can’t do it. Craig suspects Rodney really needs them if Isaiah wants them to stay. He offers to stay for $80,000 a year. After using the EpiPen, Rodney fires Craig because he can replace him with a suck bot. Jillian ends up staying at $33k. Once they’re alone, Jillian apologizes to Craig and admits to panicking. Craig insists he’ll be fine. 2 weeks later, Craig calls about a security guard position he applied for.
Dolores thinks Craig won’t get the job because he is too cute and no one could be afraid of him. Craig says no one is hiring before scolding Dolores for not wearing underwear in a common area. Vanessa (Jet Miller) calls Craig to see if he can take her to Nina’s later. He thought they were going to hang out. Craig complains that he never gets to see her anymore. Vanessa blames her mom for moving to Oakland. Before the call ends, Craig agrees to take her to Nina’s. Once he picks her up, he learns that the couple is paying for their suite and Camille (Stephanie Nogueras) had to sign an NDA. They don’t know who the couple is.
Camille explains that they’re throwing a baby shower, but she isn’t sure if she can go. Amy was going to translate for her but she’s sick. Craig offers to do it for her instead. Camille agrees before reminding Craig to keep it professional. At the party, Tate (Tommy Dewey) and Blythe (Ayden Mayeri) introduce themselves. Blythe calls Zeta (Diana Gitelman) over so she can feel her baby kicking. They reprimand Craig when he touches Zeta to stop her from rushing in. In private, Camille accuses him of starting fights, but Craig claims he is the only one looking out for her. When he offers to get her something from Five Guys, Blythe interrupts and says no because Dr. Kay says they need to keep their sodium low.
Tate thinks it is okay for Camille to go nuts since it is her day too, but Blythe argues otherwise. When Tate asks about Zeta, Craig admits it was inappropriate and says he’ll apologize to Zeta. They leave seconds later. Camille asks Craig if he knows about the website called “HelpMePayMyBills.com”. It is Tate’s company. Craig is reacting more to Blythe. Camille reveals she was devastated when she learned she couldn’t have kids. Craig relents and says he likes them if she likes them. Seconds later, Tate asks them to take pictures and Craig is shocked to see Blythe with a fake belly. When Blythe tries to pull up Camille’s dress to show her belly, Craig stops her.
They argue about whether spending money on someone is the same as caring about them before Blythe says she knows why they got divorced. Blythe and Craig curse one another so Camille interrupts and tries to calm Craig. While Blythe prepares to reveal the baby’s name, Craig claims Camille is letting these rich people control her. Craig wants her to know he can provide for her so she doesn’t have to do stuff like this. He just wants her to be happy. Camille doesn’t believe that. She thinks he wants her to be sad while waiting around for him to write her a check. Although she thinks he wants her to be desperate, Craig yells that he just wants to be needed.
Everyone looks at him before it is revealed that the baby’s name is Vapor. Camille tells Craig to go home. Craig calls Jillian to complain about what just happened. She tells him that things have been fine at the farm and Isaiah hasn’t been around much. Ted and Blythe check on Camille before offering to take her back to her motel. As they leave, a federal agent (Stevie Vallejo) posing as a waiter informs her team that they’re on the move. She wants all units there now. When Craig finds out what is going on, he approaches Camille, Ted, and Blythe. Camille tells him it is fine so he should go pick up Vanessa. Craig keeps pushing until Tate yells at him to shut up before joking that he isn’t that guy.
Tate yells for Joe to start the car while getting the others in the van. Craig jumps in and rides with them. He uses sign language to tell Camille that he has a bad feeling about them. Tate seems on edge as he explains he needs to stop at his house for a business thing. Outside his house, Hank (Paul Schackman) tells Tate that he is packed and the plane is waiting. Tate tells Hank he is coming with them. Blythe gets excited because she thinks Tate is taking her on a baby moon holiday. Craig notices that they have bags full of papers so he suspects they’ve been shredding stuff. Hank yells for the staff to shred and burn before reminding everyone there is a fire pit in the back.
Back in the van, Tate tells Craig and the others that they may be in a bit of financial trouble. The SEC might be looking for them and there is a chance they were going to raid the baby shower. Hank informs Craig that they’re accusing the company of defrauding its users. Tate says they may have stolen hundreds of millions in donations. Craig asks Camille if she still thinks they’re good people. Tate says they’re flying to Vietnam because it doesn’t have an extradition treaty. They invite Craig and Camille to come to Vietnam with them until Vapor is born. Camille isn’t interested in leaving her life there and worries sharing a jet with fugitives is illegal.
Tate offers to pay them $100,000 if they come to Vietnam. The price continues going up, but Craig keeps saying no. Tate stops and gets out before telling Joe to keep an eye on everyone. Tate knocks on the door until Tiffany (Patty Guggenheim) comes out. He asks her for the leather satchel. Blythe gets upset that he has a girlfriend on the side and ends up revealing that she can probably have a baby. Once Tiffany returns with the bag, Tate shows Camille and Craig the $300k he promised. When Tiffany swallows a bagful of diamonds, Camille and Craig try to escape in the van. Craig tells Tate there are some things money can’t buy and that includes Camille. He is going to call the feds and tell them where Tate is.
As they drive away, Camille thinks they should turn around because she may want to go to Vietnam. Craig stops so they can discuss it more. Camille admits she has never seen that much money. She reveals that federal grant money dried up after the election and non-profits disappeared. She only worked there for five weeks. Camille didn’t tell him because she was embarrassed. Craig offers to help her while claiming he still has the farm. Tate and Blythe stop complaining when the van returns. Craig tells Tate that Camille will go to Vietnam for $300,000. As they leave, Craig informs Camille that he’ll keep the money safe while she is away.
Tiffany gets ill because she swallowed the diamonds. Soon, they’re surrounded by federal agents. Tate confesses that he thought there was no way out so he called the SEC to turn state’s evidence. He told them that Hank Ridgeway was the mastermind of the operation. The money is taken and the government has frozen Tate’s assets. Tate tells Camille that she can keep the baby. Blythe promises to get in touch when she gets out to get the baby. Once they’re taken away, Camille worries about the future since she doesn’t have a job or money. Craig insists he can take care of her.
He goes back to Rodney to see if he can get the job. Rodney uses an EpiPen and says they can talk terms.
Killing It Review
This episode of Killing It wasn’t as humorous as some of the others with the characters being a little annoying at times. Some viewers are going to like the comedy style more than others though so it’ll depend on personal tastes. The episode didn’t do a lot to push the story forward since almost everything that happened was washed away in the end.
With 8-episode seasons, there is a good chance they’ll be a few throwaway episodes that don’t move the plot forward. This one probably fits into that category. With a little luck, Killing It will get back on track over the next few episodes and end with a hilarious finale. Overall, this was one of the least entertaining episodes of the season though.
It scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of Killing It are available on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising on Reel Mockery here.
