As the episode begins, Villanelle (Jodie Comer) eats ice cream in a restaurant. She stares at a young girl. When she exits, she knocks the girl’s ice cream into her lap. After the intro, Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) is awoken by her husband, Niko (Owen McDonnell). Then, she heads to work at the MI5. She attend her meeting late. Frank (Darren Boyd) gives them a rundown of a recent murder. Carolyn (Fiona Shaw), who is responsible for Russia, tells them about the murder in Vienna. Eve immediately believes that it was a female assassin. Bill (David Haig) doesn’t believe so. The murder victim was a Russian politician. After the meeting, Villanelle returns home. She speaks with a neighbor and then pretends like she is dead. Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) enters and finds her. After a brief scare, he tells her that she did good in Vienna. He offers her another job.
Eve learns that the politician’s girlfriend witnessed the murder and is being protected. Bill tells her that CCTV footage proves that killer wasn’t a woman. Eve doesn’t believe it, but she pays half of the wager anyway. She visits the witness Kasia (Edyta Budnik). The woman seems high and speaks Polish. Eve records her. Her husband and Dominik (Billy Matthews) listen to the woman’s ramblings. They believe that she is telling them that the killer had small breasts. She calls her partner Elena (Kirby Howell-Baptiste). Unfortunately, the small breasts description doesn’t help find any potential suspects. Meanwhile, Villanelle arrives in Tuscany. She finds her next victim at a party. She breaks into the home and steals an outfit. Then, she uses a younger relative to help her lure the victim to his bedroom.
She kills the man with her hairpin. Eve experiments killing herself like Villanelle killed the Russian politician. Then, she tells her husband how she would kill him and hide his body. Later that night, she admits that she doesn’t believe the CCTV footage. Konstantin visits Villanelle at home. He tells her about Kasia and insists she could create a problem. Villanelle agrees to take care of it. At work, Eve tells Bill about meeting with Kasia. He is worried that she’ll get into trouble. She takes Dominic to the hospital to speak with Kasia that night. She enters the bathroom and encounters Villanelle. Bill calls and admits that there was no CCTV footage. When she leaves the bathroom, Villanelle has already killed Kasia. Frank fires Eve and Villanelle.
Later that night, Carolyn visits Eve at home. She takes her to the store and invites her to become a spy. Meanwhile, Villanelle is shown enjoying the items she bought with the proceeds of her assassinations. She receives another business card. This time, it is for Bulgaria.
Killing Eve Review
Boy oh boy. Killing Eve was a total and complete disaster. The story itself could be good. Jodie Comer usually picks good shows, but this isn’t one of them. The show tries too hard to be comedic. That makes it incredibly difficult to take serious. Both characters are uninteresting and downright pathetic. Eve sounds like a thirteen year old half of the time. Meanwhile, Villanelle is hiding in suitcases like a fool. Sadly, the show is unlikeable and unrealistic. If it had taken itself more serious, it might have been good.
Unfortunately, it is one of the worst openers I have seen in a long, long time. The only likeable character was Dominic. I won’t stick with Killing Eve, unless I get lots of hits. It is drivel. A 4 out of 10 is deserved here.
