Kaos Season 1 Episode 7 Recap

Persephone Kaos Netflix

The episode opens with Myrina (Amanda Hadingue) lifting weights. She pours herself a cup of tea before opening the door to see The Tacita (Michelle Greenidge) with a sign that reads, “Today’s the day.” Myrina nods, walks to a concealed, shallow grave, removes the cover, retrieves a pistol, sits down, lays back, puts something in her mouth, and shoots herself. Elsewhere, Poseidon (Cliff Curtin) informs Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan) of an impending family barbecue. He urges him to not tell Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) about his affair with Hera (Janet McTeer). Dionysus agrees to not say anything if he doesn’t tell Zeus about him helping a mortal, Orpheus (Killian Scott) into the underworld. Poseidon professes his love for Hera. Shocked, Dionysus asks what it feels like to be in love. Poseidon describes love as an awful feeling like your heart is outside your body. Dionysus expresses his desire to feel love before vowing to not tell Zeus about their affair. Later, Hera warns that stupid Dionysus will not keep their secret. Zeus but Poseidon disagrees. Zeus attacks his ball boy (Bob Langley) while setting up for the barbecue. Hera voices concern about President Minos (Stanley Townsend) not going through with his promise to kill Glaucus (Fady Elsayed). Poseidon suggests they run away together with The Tactitas. She refuses to leave “her” house.

In the presence of Medusa (Debi Mazar) and Caeneus (Misia Butler), Orpheus justifies his taking Riddy’s (Aurora Perrineau) coin. He says they can start living again once they are back on Earth. Riddy refuses to leave the underworld because she has friends and a job to do. Orpheus tells her that Dionysus helped him because he believes in their love and cares about them. Pointing at the mark on the palm of his hand, he says it is fate. Hades (David Thewlis) calls to say he is ready to see Orpheus. After removing him from the room, Medusa insists Riddy return to Earth, so she can unite with the rebels to take down Zeus. In Olympus, Zeus’ ball boys (Matthew Koon, Elander Moore) move the dead ball boy out of the doorway. Zeus sets the table. Dionysus arrives with Dennis. Hera and Poseidon stare at him. Hades will not be attending the family barbecue. Zeus informs him that Minos is going to defy his property by killing Glaucus before he kills him. In Krete, Daedalus (Mat Fraser) tells Ari (Leila Farzad) that a wax figure is buried in Glaucus’ grave. Ari demands to know how Glaucus transformed into the Minotaur. Isolation and darkness made Glaucus mad. He attacked two jailers and fatally injured a man which impressed Minos. Daedalus denies Glaucus ever tried to attack him. He admits to creating the Minotaur mask for Glaucus. He expresses his feelings for Glaucus. Ari orders him to take her to Glaucus’ cell.

Persephone (Rakie Ayola) tries to make Hades comfortable. Medusa and Orpheus arrive. Riddy tells Caeneus that she cannot leave with Orpheus. Caeneus promises to stop people from going through the Frame but insists she return to Earth and tell everyone about the Nothing. She cannot do it by herself. He suggests urging the people to live, not the gods. She tells him that she wants to stay with him. He assures her that he will be there when she returns. They kiss. Hades congratulates Orpheus for breaching the underworld as a mortal. Caeneus wishes he met Riddy when they were alive. She offers to pay his mother a visit. Hades rejects Orpheus’ request to return to Earth. Orpheus reminds him that he passed all the tests. Hades says he never convinced him to let him go. Orpheus offers his own life for Riddy’s. Hades agrees to let him stay in the underworld with Riddy. After leaving, Medusa scolds Orpheus for not being convincing. Upset, Persephone tells Hades that sending Orpheus back to Earth would have sent Zeus a message. He argues that it would have been an act of war. She assures him that war has already begun. He insists the Nothing is the answer and they can return the souls to the people and send them back to Earth. While he rests, Persephone orders Medusa to retrieve Riddy.

Dionysus asks for Hera’s permission to see his mother. She agrees but warns him against pushing her too far. He asks Poseidon if he told Hera about their agreement when Zeus approaches and accuses them of thinking he is stupid for believing in the prophecy. In Krete, Minos summons Daedalus. He looks at the dagger on his desk. Basil (Matthew Trevannion) is having a snack when Daedalus and Ari arrive. They send Basil away before entering the cell. Deacon (Joe Coen) warns Minos that Daedalus is missing. Irate, Minos orders him to find Daedalus. Zeus, Hera, Dionysus, and Poseidon watch Minos from their home in Olympus. Zeus gets impatient. Poseidon assures him that Minos will kill Glaucus. Daedalus escorts Ari through the brigade. Minos removes his watch, picks up the dagger, and contemplates pushing the red Minotaur button. Daedalus and Ari are inside the brigade when Minos pushes the red button and the doors open. The Minotaur attacks Daedalus. Ari flees toward the exit. Zeus watches as an armed Minos enters the brigade. Ari tells Glaucus that she is his twin sister. He sniffs her all over and lets her touch him. Terrified, she removes his Minotaur mask. He breaks down sobbing and looks at her. Minos finds them together. Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, and Dionysus see everything from Olympus. Ari tells Minos that Glaucus is only a danger to his prophecy. He claims it was his only option. She calls him a monster. Holding up the dagger, he says the gods want it done. She curses the gods. Dionysus is impressed with Ari. When Minos strikes out, Glaucus shoves him, dislodging the dagger from his hand. Ari tries to stop him. Minos gets the knife and stabs Glaucus before cutting his throat. Zeus cheers and Hera exhales.

Medusa demands Riddy tell the humans about the Nothing. Riddy embraces Caeneus and leaves with Medusa. Caeneus breaks down crying. Orpheus smiles at Riddy. In Krete, Ari kisses a lifeless Glaucus. Minos claims to have defied his property to protect them. Zeus laughs from Olympus. Minos says the gods trust him. She recalls how he manipulated her into believing she killed Glaucus. He says Glaucus was born weak and she strong. After quoting the prophecy, “Your end begins in the marital bed. The first child to draw breath will kill you death,” she stabs him in the heart and reminds him that she breathed air first. Minos dies. Dionysus believes he is in love with Air. Zeus collapses as the episode opens.

Kaos Review

Zeus hosts a barbecue, so his family can watch Minos kill Glaucus, the Minotaur. Ari orders Daedalus to take her to Glaucus. They are down in the brigade when Minos opens the cell doors. Glaucus, who has never attacked Daedalus, kills him. Ari tells him that she is his twin sister. He takes in her scent and breaks down sobbing. Minos’ prophecy says his first child to breathe air will kill him. He kills Glaucus when in fact, it is Ari who takes her first breath. Realizing the mistake, Ari kills Minos.

When people cross the Frame in the underworld, Hades collects their souls. It is his plan to replace the souls and send the people back to Earth. Not completely sold on his plan, Persephone believes Orpheus and Riddy should return to Earth to send Zeus a message. Medusa and Persephone support the rebels’ plan to remove Zeus from power. They intend to override Hades’ denial and send Riddy back to Earth, so she can tell everyone about the Nothing.

Seven episodes and the story has barely touched on Zeus’ prophecy. If the three contenders can pull it off, it will have to happen in the finale. Seven long drawn-out episodes, followed by a hastily thrown together finale. So typical of Netflix to drag out a series and rush the finale and leave the side stories incomplete.

The cast is overstuffed with only a handful that truly matter. About 95% of the characters and show is pointless. The episode deserves a 5.6 out of 10.
