Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

jurassic world chaos theory episode 1 recap

Aftershock – As this episode of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory begins, Darius Bowman (Paul Mikel Williams) listens to a conversation about dinosaurs while driving through a wooded area on Route 693. A caller tells Ross that they don’t feel safe. The host mentions that the Camp Cretaceous kids escaped only for one of them to get eaten back at home. Darius receives an alert about dinosaurs being sighted off Route 693 near the seven mile marker. Officers with the Department of Prehistoric Wildlife have been dispatched. When the DPW officers find the dinosaur, they’re told to keep their distance and sit tight. Mike (Alan Trinca) is told not to shoot because it’s an 8,000 pound Pachyrhinosaurus.

He’s told to retrieve a net launcher from the truck. Mike accidentally shoots the dinosaur. Darius arrives to help Ronnie (Carmen Moore). Mike tries to calm the dinosaur. While talking to the dinosaur, Darius notices it has a piece of barbed wire in its foot. He pulls it out and throws it to the side. Darius gives the dinosaur an apple and sends it on its way. Mike is impressed that he’s Darius Bowman. Ronnie says she used to be his boss. She reminds Darius that catching that dinosaur isn’t going to bring his friend back. Ronnie asks Darius if he’s sure he doesn’t want to come back because it’d be nice to work with someone competent. Another dinosaur arrives and Darius believes it’s the one that killed his friend. He grabs one of the rifles and tries to shoot the dinosaur while it fights with the other one. The dinosaur flees before he can.

Darius goes after it in his truck. He ends up losing it. Ronnie checks on him. They get an alert that the target is heading towards Marshall Ridge. Ronnie urges Darius not to go after the Allosaurus. She warns him his tire is flat. As they leave, Ronnie tells Mike that Darius has been through a lot. Darius calls Brooklynn’s phone and listens to the voicemail message. He tells her he’s going to go home, gear up, and get the Allosaurus. He grabs what he needs at home and ignores a call from Brand. Darius goes outside and learns he doesn’t have a spare tire for his truck. He goes inside and speaks to Brand on the phone. Brand wonders if it’d help for Darius to speak to his camp family such as Kenji, but Darius says Kenji (Darren Barnet) doesn’t want to hear anything he has to say.

Brand reminds Darius not to get into a situation he can’t get out of. After the call, Darius deletes all of his voicemail messages. He watches a news report about the Nublar Six. Ben (Sean Giambrone) and the others are interviewed about their experience. Darius wakes up to a phone call but the caller doesn’t say anything. He suspects there’s something outside, but it’s only Ben who says he’s taking a break from college. Darius suspects Ben is there tracking the Allosaurus as well. He mentions calling Brooklynn even though she’s dead. Darius says her dad has never deactivated her voicemail so he calls her sometimes to hear her voice. Darius blames himself because he thinks things would be different if he had met her that night. Ben believes Brooklynn was targeted.

He refuses to believe the attack was random. Ben goes through all the questions he has about that night. He mentions Dark Jurassic. Darius calls it the website where people share weird dinosaur conspiracy theories. Ben insists some of those theories are more sane than he might think. He was on the site reading about Allosaurus migration patterns and looking at leaked crime scene photos. Suddenly, someone anonymously started asking him if he was a member of the Nublar Six. Then, he received DMs asking why he was so interested in the night Brooklynn died. Ben finds out that someone has deleted the messages. He is adamant something is going on and they’re being hunted. Ben believes whoever killed Brooklynn is coming after the rest of them, but he admits he doesn’t have any proof.

Darius thought Ben prank called him but it wasn’t Ben. They see the silhouette of a dinosaur outside. A dinosaur jumps through the window before getting trapped under a bookshelf. Another leaps through the window. Ben and Darius manage to take care of the dinosaurs before fleeing the cabin. They encounter another outside.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Review

The opening episode of Chaos Theory was effective enough to satisfy fans of the franchise. The animations are sleek and the voice acting is good enough. The opening episode was really just setting up the story, but it did a decent job in that area.

Some aspects of the show were very cliché, especially the beginning with Ronnie and Mike. A little originality would go a long way to making this show a lot more enjoyable. However, it’s hard not to roll your eyes when you see the same old tropes being carried over to animated shows.

Otherwise, the episode did just enough to build interest for the remaining episodes. Ben suspects someone is out to get them following Brooklynn’s death. As for Darius, he is only interested in avenging her death by taking care of the Allosaurus. The episode scores a 6 out of 10.
