As the episode begins, several young girls find the body of a dead woman. After the intro, Dr. Daniel Harrow (Ioan Gruffudd) inspects the severed finger. He tries calling Fern (Ella Newton), but she doesn’t answer. Then, Daniel is ridiculed by Maxine (Robyn Malcolm) for resigning and un-resigning. She agrees to put Daniel on the case of the bones. Daniel speaks with Soroya (Mirrah Foulkes) and Nichols (Damien Garvey) about the body. He estimates that the body was in the water for two to six years. After they leave, Daniel tells Simon (Remy Hii) that they’ll need the femur to identify the body. Simon begins working to extract it. Daniel gets a call from Soroya. He meets with her and learns about the new body. Nichols tells them that the woman is 40-year-old Phillippa Wedburg. She worked for a ride-sharing service.
Soroya and Daniel look in the wooded area. They eventually find footprints and one with a flat indentation. It is suspected that Phillippa was likely chased. After the victim’s phone is unlocked, her last client is tracked down. He is taken in for questioning. The man insists that his phone was stolen at a pub. Meanwhile, Fern and her boyfriend are forced to flee the house that they’re squatting in. Daniel and Simon inspect Phillippa’s body. She has a small cut on her chin, which leads them to believe she was held at knifepoint. After the autopsy is complete, Daniel gets a call from Soroya. She invites him to a pub. When he arrives, he discovers that it is police business. Nichols and Soroya speak with the bartender, Charlotte Cumerford (Megan Smart). She allows them to watch the surveillance video. Sure enough, the man’s wallet was stolen just like he said.
Charlotte tells Daniel that he is screwed, because he is under Soroya’s spell. Back at the office, Daniel gets a visit from Phillipa’s daughter, Caterina (Samantha MacGillivray). She wants to see her mother. Daniel talks her out of it. Fern and her boyfriend find another place to squat. That night, Daniel finds Stephanie (Anna Lise Phillips) in his boat. His guitar has been smashed. Stephanie is not happy. She makes it clear that she doesn’t want to see Daniel for a while. Daniel examines a doll nearby. This gives him an idea. He believes that Phillipa might have been killed with an arrow. He checks her heart and finds a piece of wood. Simon is instructed to hunt for someone in the area who sales European ash arrows. Daniel visits Jack Twine (Tony Barry). They speak about Jack’s time as a medical examiner. He is asked about fabricating evidence. He admits that he should have once, but didn’t.
During the visit, Daniel is briefly introduced to Hovard (John Tiplady). Daniel spots a picture of Jack riding a horse. It gives him another idea. He returns to the crime scene and checks out the footprint once again. The following day, he and Soroya go for a ride. He explains that the killer might have used a crossbow. They visit a man, who sells such items. They visit the dealer, Lufton (Leon Cain). He insists that he reports all of his sales. They soon find out that he is lying. He is taken to the station. There, we see that Lufton is in a sex tape with two people. He gave them a crossbow in exchange for sex. The video shows the man’s face. Soon, Blake Poyner (Patrick Cullen) and his girlfriend, Anna (Piera Forde), are arrested, but set free. Daniel notices a scar on Blake’s hand. Daniel doesn’t believe that Anna was involved in the sex tape. That night, Daniel contacts Nichols and learns that Blake’s wound stems from a suicide attempt when he was younger.
The following day, Daniel visits Blake’s home. He speaks with Anna and snoops around. He finds weird candles, before being run off by Blake. At the office, Daniel learns that the candle’s wick contains human skin. He speaks with Carol at the school and learns that the bartender Charlotte was suspended for stealing cadavers. Daniel visits her house after notifying Soroya. He finds all kinds of weird stuff. He is soon confronted by Blake and Charlotte. Daniel talks to Charlotte about the murder. They prepare to shoot Daniel. He insists that Blake should take the shot. His hand fails him again. Daniel manages to escape death. Soroya and the others arrive in time to arrest the murderers. Phillipa’s daughter is allowed to see the body. Later, Daniel visits Lewison (Dorian Nkono). He pays the man to track Fern’s phone. Daniel visits the place where she is staying and pleads his case through the door.
When Daniel returns, he learns that Simon has extracted DNA from the bone. He waits for Simon and Soroya to leave. Then, he visits Hovard and gets his DNA. Jack catches him. Daniel returns and swaps out the DNA with Hovard’s.
Harrow Review
This episode of Harrow was just as good as the previous. The show is a little silly, but fairly entertaining nevertheless. The only thing that could be improved is Daniel’s family. Now we know that Daniel was up to something illegal. What is he hiding? Did he kill someone or hide a body for other reasons? There is a good chance that the mystery will continue until the end of the season. The episode was pretty decent. It scores a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Harrow now!
