Harrow Season 3 Episode 10 Finale Recap

As the finale begins, an Australian customs officer searches a shipping container due to its awful odor. He finds the body of a man on the floor. After the intro, Fern Harrow (Ella Newton) freaks out when Callan (Hunter Page-Lochard) scares her. She begins telling him that James was taken by the dead boy’s mother. He finds out that she took the phone from the police before Mila’s men speed into the driveway and rush into the home. Fern and Callan manage to escape over a fence in the back. They argue about James being trouble and being unable to go to the police because of Fern and James. Callan wants to go to Daniel, but Fern says they can’t since they used his email to get the phone.

Fern’s phone calls, Callan answers, and he talks to Mila Zoric (Diana Glenn). She confirms she has James. She begins giving demands but Callan ends the call before he can hear them. Callan takes James’s phone and jumps into a taxi as Fern is left alone on the street. Callan calls Daniel Harrow (Ioan Gruffudd) but he doesn’t answer. He notices Tanya (Sara Wiseman) is gone before his phone rings once again. He answers the call from QIFM before going to the facility and telling Lyle Fairley (Darren Gilshenan) about his son’s mother. Grace (Jolene Anderson) and Bryan (Damien Garvey) join them before they learn about the body from customs. Bryan explains the body was found in a shipping container from Conakry via Cape Town.

The man would’ve spent weeks at sea, but the shipping container was vented so he could breathe inside. He was alone besides three dozen exotic birds that were likely for sale on the black market. They discuss dehydration before Renae (Miriama Smith) enters and asks to talk to Daniel for a moment. Renae gets rid of Louie before asking Daniel to shut the door. She presents Daniel his retirement package which outlines his severance and paperwork to finalize his access to the department’s health benefit scheme. Daniel is upset and angry. He reminds Renae he is the best pathologist she has but she disagrees. He takes the paperwork, packs items from his office, and apologizes to Glen. Grace tries to find out what is going on before he leaves but he recommends asking Lizzie Borden.

She wants to ask about something else but Daniel blows her off and leaves. She confronts Renae who says she and Lyle will perform the PM on the shipping container body. Renae recommends getting back to work or she’ll follow Daniel. Grace tells Lyle about it moments later. He suggests doing their job and talking to the deputy coroner at the end of the day. They confirm the man was badly dehydrated and he has puncture wounds on his left index finger. Grace asks about Lyle’s final report on Harrow but he says he only told the truth. Louie entered as they cut the man open and he gets a drop of blood in his eye. Lyle helps him flush it out while Grace finds something disturbing. They hit the alarm and go into lockdown with no one else being able to enter.

Grace tells Renae through the intercom that the man appears to have died of a virulent hemorrhagic fever. Renae wants to take her son to the hospital, but Lyle believes they should follow emergency protocol. He says they can’t let anyone in or out until they know what it is. Meanwhile, Daniel goes to the pub for drinks. Callan tracks him down and tells him about James, his phone, and Mila. Daniel learns how they used his ID to get the phone before he tells Callan he needs to do this alone. He tells Callan to look after his daughter. Daniel calls Fern’s phone and talks to Mila who asks if anyone at HQ is listening to the call. He doesn’t think so and asks for proof they have James. He gets it in the form of a video seconds later. They agree to meet in an hour.

Daniel calls Grace and learns that they have a case of Ebola or something like it. He is told about Louie before asking Grace to describe the smuggler’s condition. Daniel says it doesn’t make any sense and the incubation period must be extremely short. He doesn’t think the man from the container was infected before he embarked. They agree that something in the container had to give the man the disease. Biosecurity won’t be there for a few hours so Daniel agrees to help. Daniel calls Fern’s phone again and tells Matthias he is going to need more time, but he is only given 58 minutes.

Bryan learns that the phone found in Mila’s vehicle has disappeared and Daniel requested its release. He checks the security footage and learns that Fern picked up the phone. Daniel goes to the shipping container and tells the man in charge that it cannot be released because Biosecurity, Disease Control, and the police are on the way. He puts on a mask and steps inside in hopes of finding out what killed the man. Ben (Tim Ross) calls Grace and agrees to get there as soon as possible. Lyle tells a coworker what to do with the blood samples as soon as they get them so they can be tested for viruses. Renae threatens to fire Lyle if he doesn’t let Louie out but he says he doesn’t care. Daniel calls Grace and confirms that the dead man had bite marks.

Daniel believes the man was smuggling more than birds. He checks the CCTV footage and notices something rush out of the shipping container when the door was first opened. It is confirmed that a monkey ran from the container and Daniel asks about one of the men opening the container. He contacts Grace and tells her about the monkey. Since the monkey is still alive, it can’t be Zaire, Ebola, or Marburg. Daniel asks Grace if Ben can access Cyanovirin-N but Lyle doesn’t think they can give it to Louie because he is already too weak. Daniel knows but he believes it could slow down the virus and save Louie if he is right. He asks about Louie’s head since a symptom is rapid swelling of the brain meninges.

He warns they might need to relieve the pressure by opening his skull. He wants to check the animal to see if it is showing symptoms but wants Ben to get the Cyanovirin just in case. When the call ends, Daniel learns about the dockworker Andy Spiro (Chris Bloomfield). They aren’t giving any information without a warrant so Daniel is told to ring the Deputy Coroner. He doesn’t have time for that so he tracks down the man’s friend and interrogates him. After a little torture, the man admits that Andy knew the monkey could be valuable so he tried to get it. He gets the man’s address and rushes there. Louie losses consciousness just before Ben arrives. Grace tells Renae that they’ll need to perform a craniotomy. Louie and Ben don’t like the idea, but Grace says they likely don’t have a choice.

Daniel gets a call from Nichols who he has been trying to call. Bryan knows everything now and he offers to give Daniel one last chance to tell the truth about his son. Daniel gets a message from Fern’s phone warning him he only has twenty minutes. As a result, he decides to tell Bryan about James. He apologizes for lying but says he was afraid of losing his son. He hangs up and arrives at Andy’s home before breaking in. He finds the monkey’s cage and some clumps of its fur. Andy runs out of the door and Harrow chases him. Renae gives Grace and Lyle permission to operate on her son. Daniel tries to convince Andy to stop and show him the monkey. Andy has been bitten as well so he has the disease too. Daniel pleads with Andy to tell him if the monkey died or he killed it.

Lyle tells Grace that Louie has stopped breathing. Renae freaks out and they begin CPR. Daniel calls and tells Grace to give Louie the shot. He says it is a macaque and it died of a broken neck. It was a carrier but it had no swollen glands or other symptoms. Grace administers the medication seconds later and Louie opens his eye. With that out of the way, Daniel turns his attention to the James situation. He sneaks inside and joins Mila and the others. Daniel believes James made Mila a passport because she is leaving too. She confirms it but wants what is her first. They hang James (Harrison Gilbertson) over the rail until Daniel admits he has the phone. James tells Daniel not to give it to her so he holds it over the rail. She threatens to toss James over the rail too. Daniel believes it isn’t about revenge. If it was, James would already be dead.

Daniel says she wants the phone because that is where the 22 million is. At Mila’s request, James is put down. Daniel says she can have her money in a minute but he wants to show her something first. James agrees to tell his father how to access the video so Mila can see what happened to her son. The video is sent to Mila and she watches it seconds later. It shows that Max tried to attack James but fell over the edge in the process. Bryan tells Superintendent Bec Crowley (Virginie Laverdure) what he knows about Daniel, Fern, and James. She wants them brought in and charged with obstructing justice. Detective Brookes (Jing Xuan Chan) receives the CCTV footage of James and Max and shows it to them.

The message “MIKKS” was also sent along with it. Bryan believes it has something to do with Mila’s place. James tells Mila it was her son’s idea to steal her money. He offered to split it with James if he helped and got him out of the country. James thought he might get greedy so he set up some insurance. He diverted the camera feeds to his phone before meeting with Max. He put Daniel’s name in Max’s fake passport when he lost his phone. Then, he left the note for his father because he was leaving that night as well. Mila wants her money but James warns Daniel that she’ll take the money and kill both of them. Daniel says he’ll transfer it himself when James is safe, but James says he’ll only have one chance and he’ll be locked out forever.

Daniel remembers his meeting with James on his boat and the Sparklehorse It’s A Wonderful Life record. Daniel puts in Sparklehorse and transfers the money as he struggles with Matthias. Mila grabs the phone and tells James to unlock it. James tries to unlock it but his access is denied. Daniel apologizes and says he thought he could guess it before Mila demands James be thrown over. She wants them both thrown over but Daniel warns her of the police sirens approaching. Mila and the others run away before Daniel tells his son he had to do it. He says he had to take away the one thing she wanted, but James says it was the one thing he wanted too. Mila is taken into custody with Matthias and the others. Daniel tells James he better go.

Louie is saved. Grace receives the results from the hairbrush test. Bryan tells Daniel that Fern gave him a card and it allowed Fraud Squad to enter an interesting warehouse owned by a shell company owned by Mila Zoric. Bryan asks for the phone but Daniel doesn’t have it. He also says James is gone and he should let it go. Bryan asks if Grace has called him yet. Bryan explains Callan brought some of James’s hair to test and James isn’t Daniel’s son. Later that night, Daniel listens to a voice message from Tanya who says he deserves the truth. She admits he isn’t James’s father. She apologizes but says Daniel was always gone. Louie is taken to ICU and Renae is told she can meet him there. Renae admits Harrow had a hand in saving her son’s life.

Daniel shows up at QIFM and receives a thanks from Renae who promises to fix the firing thing. Daniel approaches Grace and tells her about his crazy day and the boy who wasn’t his son. He knows he could’ve told her and says she is such a good person. He tells her she deserves more than someone as messed up as him, but she says what people deserve and want are two different things. He admits he might not be able to change, but she isn’t sure she’d want that. He checks his phone and finds a message from Fern who wants to meet at the boat. Bryan runs into Fern and tells her they need to chat about Catherine Schumann. They join Daniel and find out that his boat is missing. He gives Fern the letter James left and she reads it aloud.

Bryan says James is a liar, sneak, and charmer, but not her brother. Daniel agrees to give him a head start before notifying coast guard. He says 22 years since his mother kept it secret from him too. When Bryan leaves, Fern thanks Daniel for the 22 million and he admits he wasn’t sure he remembered her account number. They agree they should probably give it back, but Daniel suggests Bora Bora. He says they could go shopping for a new vessel. They discuss their potential trip with Callan.

Harrow Review

I’ve said it numerous times. Harrow is better when we aren’t focusing so much on a side investigation and this episode proved it again. I can’t deny the fact that some of the things were a bit cheesy and too easy for Daniel, James, and Fern. Daniel remembering the Sparklehorse record, quickly sending the video to Bryan, and transferring the money to Fern’s account.

Those things were too convenient, but whatever. The episode was still one of the best episodes this season. It was fast, furious, and a bit emotional at times. I am not sure we’re going to get another season, but the finale certainly angled for one. Daniel managed to win over Renae and likely won’t be fired. James is gone but the main characters are still chugging along.

I could see another season being commissioned and I would watch it. I just wish they would make a few tweaks to the show and focus more on the primary storyline for the season. If they would do that, this decent show could potentially turn into a great show. As for the finale, it was pretty good although a bit easy. The finale scores a 7.5 out of 10. Past recaps of Harrow are available on Reel Mockery.

Legally, there is no way they get to keep the 22 million, right? the bank will notice it in Fern’s account and report it. Unless she just happens to have a Bitcoin account and Daniel remembered what it was. Seems unlikely. And yeah, he’s the fastest ever on sending stuff on a mobile phone…can’t be that easy to transfer from Bitcoin to another account.

    • ReelMockery says:

Agree and agree. Bank would likely identify that as suspicious and stop it/lock the account. Bitcoin would probably take a lot longer. lol, not the most realistic twist.

  2. Janet Horwith says:

All during the entire time I watched Harrow, all I wanted to do was snip Ioan Gruffudd’s curly-que off! Not Superman, Dude. The show was good, and as I was a coroners assistant in college 100 years ago, I realize things have progressed in forensics, but some procedures did not make sense. But Harrow was very entertaining and curly-que aside, Ioan Gruffudd is not just eye candy, he’s not a bad actor. My fave character was Bryan. Now, if I can only find someone to put 22 M into my account, I’d be happier than a little pig in poop!!!

    • ReelMockery says:

lol! Yeah I think you just have to take the series as it comes without analyzing or thinking about it too much. Wouldn’t mind to see another season honestly since it was more enjoyable than some of the other stuff coming out right now. The curly-que didn’t bother me but I could see how it could lol. It sometimes just takes one thing to irk you, doesn’t it?
