Granite Harbour Series 2 Episode 3 Finale Recap

series 2 finale lara granite harbour

As the finale of Granite Harbour begins, DI Jay Mallick (Bhav Joshi) gets out of his crashed vehicle and checks on Emil (Alex Hogh Andersen) who calls someone. Duncan’s phone vibrates as he watches Grace McFadden (Lesley Hart) walk by with DS Lara Bartlett and DCI Cora MacMillan. Cora (Dawn Steele) tells Grace they found traces of ketamine in a flat belonging to a company within the McFadden Group. She goes on to say that Lucas Galloway was named as the company director. Cora says they have proof that Galloway was in the flat at some point. Lara (Hannah Donaldson) admits CCTV confirmed Grace’s alibi at the time of Galloway’s murder. Grace argues that Lucas was family and would’ve never betrayed her.

Cora mentions the idea of getting a warrant to search Grace’s home and business premises. Grace insists she wants the killer found just as much as they do. Cora learns about the accident so she leaves with Lara. Grace wants Duncan stopped by security and brought to her. Lara checks on Jay who is ready to get back to work. Cora tells him that witnesses claim he was on his phone and he ran the junction. Lara notices that Emil is being helped nearby. The other car is Lindo’s but he’s not there. Jay claims he saw Mariam in the back of a car and was in the middle of calling it in. Lara calls Katie who tells her that Mariam was taken by two men claiming to be with the Home Office and Lindo came by a short time later. Cora mentions checking the cameras.

Grace tells an upset Duncan (Sam Garioch) to sit down. She has been thinking about who is behind the new designer drug. She suspects it’s someone close to her and someone who thinks they’re untouchable. Her man begins attacking Duncan who eventually confesses it has been going for a few months. Grace argues this isn’t how they do things. Duncan says people don’t fear them the way they used to. They don’t look at them the way they used to look at Grandpa Billy. Duncan believes Grace made them weak. After she slaps him, Grace warns Duncan he’d be a dead man if he wasn’t her nephew. She wants to sort the mess out before it all stops. Duncan admits there’s a problem. Emil is interviewed. Simone Montrose (Michelle Jeram) is unable to get in touch with Jay Mallick. Emil insists he doesn’t know where Axel and Mariam went because he was dazed from the crash.

Cora asks about the unregistered number he called just after the accident. The same number called him last night and this morning. Emil claims they just wanted to help Mariam. Cora questions whether someone tipped them off about her location. Cora and Lara don’t think he’s in that deep since he hasn’t been to the flat where the CK was being processed. Cora suggests they can offer him a lesser charge if he discloses who’s behind the smuggling operation. Emil refuses to name anyone. Simone still can’t reach Jay. She shows Cora and Lara dashcam footage. It shows Axel leave alone before Lindo stumbles out of his vehicle. Lindo gets Mariam out and takes her somewhere. In private, Lara and Simone discuss whether Mallick being there was a massive coincidence.

Cora has been summoned to the headmaster’s office. She asks them to get an update on Jay. Lara calls Grantley Lindo (Patrick Robinson) who says he asked Davis to meet him but he didn’t show. He tells Lara about their falling out. DC Davis Lindo (Romario Simpson) takes Mariam (Afsaneh Dehrouyeh) to his friend’s holiday home. He can’t find the key. Davis explains that nobody can know where she’s at. That’s why he only called an ambulance for Jay. Davis finds the key and lets Mariam inside. She asks Davis not to leave her. He promises to come back as soon as possible. He tells her to call an ambulance if she feels unwell before leaving. Duncan tells Grace about the witness. Grace says he needs to deal with the girl himself and silence her. She tells Duncan what her father would’ve done to anyone who betrayed him.

Grace warns Duncan not to betray her again. Lara tells Cora that Axel Berg made a run up north. Uniforms are bringing him in now. Simone still can’t get Mallick to pick up his phone. Jay goes home and checks on his mom. She asks if he’s coming to her party later. Jay says he’ll do his best. Grantley runs into his son and says they need to talk about his mother’s death. Davis gets upset and leaves. Axel is interviewed by Lara and Cora. He claims Emil asked for his help and he’s just the guy with the car. Axel is asked about the bag he carried into the Captain’s flat. They believe the bag contained ketamine. Davis returns as the interrogation continues. Axel is asked about meeting Lucas Galloway, but he claims he’s never seen him before. Cora suggests he’s an enforcer. Axel denies killing Lucas and Hassan. He eventually says that Hassan was still breathing when they put him overboard.

Axel admits to taking drugs and delivering them, but he claims that’s all he does. After the interview, Davis tells Cora he can’t tell her where the witness is. He argues there’s a rat among them. Simone asks to speak to Cora in private. Cora tells Lara to sort out Davis because she wants Mariam’s location right away. Jay is waiting in Cora’s office when she enters with Simone. It appears Jay is going to tell Cora the truth. Lara complains about Lindo not trusting the team. They argue about having each other’s back. Lara claims Lindo is a liability. He suggests he should go back to Jamaica. Once they go back inside, Lara learns about Jay. Cora questions Jay who says he found out about his brother a couple of days ago. Jay says they threatened his mom so he had to tip them off. He blames Duncan McFadden, but he doesn’t know about Galloway.

Cora yells that he had a choice and he picked the wrong one. She suspends him until further notice. Jay pleads with her to let him handle his brother. He worries that this will destroy his mother. Cora agrees to let him be there, but Monty will make the arrest. She warns Jay that he could be looking at a custodial sentence. When Cora returns to the others, she learns that Mariam is at the holiday cottage in Dinnet. She tells everyone that they have confirmation that Duncan is behind the CK. Cora wants Duncan brought in. She also recommends speaking to his wife since she gave him an alibi. Cora tells Monty to take Jay and pick up Nazir. Lindo and Lara visit Ruth (Layla Kirk) who claims Duncan was working from home when Galloway was killed. They want to know why Duncan asked her to lie since they believe he was in his office.

Ruth tells them to come with her. She gives them a phone she found in his desk drawer. Ruth suspects he uses it to contact his other women. One of them might be able to tell them where he went after leaving his office. Simone agrees to let Jay go inside to speak to his mom and Nazir (Sani Mamood). In private, Jay tells Nazir to kiss his wife and kids goodbye. He says Nazir left him no choice. Nazir is arrested by Monty. Jay asks her to take him to the station while he explains everything to his family. Mariam speaks to Katie (Kate Bracken) on the phone to tell her what happened. Duncan and Elsa are with Katie listening to the conversation. Katie gets the address from Mariam. She tries to warn Mariam before Elsa ends the call.

Monty tells Lindo and Lara that the phone Grace gave them doesn’t belong to Duncan. It’s registered to Lucas Galloway. Lara says Ruth claimed she found it in Duncan’s things. The camera contains pictures of the empty apartment. They suspect Galloway was gathering evidence to expose the team in case anything happened to him. Monty is asked to go to Harbour Point to get CCTV and see if it puts Duncan at the flat. Lara gets a call that surprises her. Lara and Lindo learn that Katie is dead. The CCTV in the office shows Duncan and Elsa leaving about 20 minutes ago. Lindo calls for backup and to tell Cora to get Mariam out of the cottage. He learns that ANPR picked up McFadden’s car traveling to Dinnet. Lara wants to be there when they arrest Duncan.

Cora arrives at the cottage to help Mariam who knocks her out from behind. Mariam apologizes. She tells Cora that she knows her husband was on the boat although she didn’t really see anything. Cora apologizes for not protecting her and not taking her seriously. Mariam says Lindo protected her. She has had pain for a few days now. Mariam mentions that Katie is coming. Cora realizes they need to leave. Lara and Lindo rush to reach the cottage. Cora sees Duncan outside. She tells Mariam to run and find somewhere to call the police. Mariam hides outside. Duncan enters the house and immediately asks Cora where she is. Cora tells him she’s gone. She claims Mariam was already gone when she got there and she doesn’t know where she is. Elsa says she couldn’t have gone far. She gives Duncan a knife before he goes looking for her.

Monty finds something, but can’t get in touch with her colleagues. She sends a message telling them that Elsa Henrik killed Lucas Galloway. Cora and Elsa get into a fight before Elsa is knocked out. Elsa approaches her outside and they hear sirens coming. Elsa flees. Lara goes after her. Lindo learns Duncan is looking for Mariam in the woods. Lara chases Elsa through the woods while Lindo searches for Mariam. He finds Duncan holding her at knifepoint. Lindo tries to convince Duncan to put the knife down. Duncan pushes her down before fleeing. Lindo helps Mariam up. Elsa falls and hurts her ankle, but she manages to continue fleeing. Lara catches up with her. Lindo takes Mariam to uniformed officers and learns that Elsa killed Lucas. He runs into the woods to help Lara who tries to convince Elsa to put down the knife. Elsa admits Duncan was a means to an end.

Lindo arrives and tells Elsa they know she killed Lucas. Lara learns that Elsa killed Katie. She attacks Elsa and chokes her while Lindo tries to stop her. Eventually, Elsa is taken into custody. Cora tries to cheer up Lindo who is upset that Duncan got away. Duncan tells Grace that he’s sorry. She claims she’ll take care of it before they leave together. Jay hands over his badge at the station. Cora tells him he’ll have a hearing and a call from anti-corruption. Davis tells his father that he doesn’t want to live in his shadow in Jamaica. This is his home now. Grantley says his mother would be proud and he is too. Grace gives up Duncan’s location leading to his apprehension. Cora tells Lara they have to pick their battles. She praises Lara’s work on the case and asks if she’d like to do more of that.

She wants her to be DI until she passes her exams. Later, it is confirmed that the coastguard found Hassan’s body. Mariam had her baby as well. Cora tells Grantley she is hopeful the government will let Mariam stay. She says Davis is the reason they have a chance at a better life. Grantley is prouder of him than he’ll ever know. Lindo and the others celebrate DI Bartlett and drink to Katie. Later, Lara tells Davis she failed Katie and she should’ve listened to him. He insists she can’t blame herself. She thanks him before they get back to work.

Granite Harbour Review

The finale of Granite Harbour closed most of the doors and predictably ended with Davis Lindo agreeing to stay in Aberdeen. It did a good job of covering all the bases without leaving any storyline without a conclusion. However, the episode wasn’t particularly great because of how unrealistic it was.

It started with the crash and went downhill from there. The crash was already unrealistic considering who was involved and how much of a coincidence that would be. It’s probably unrealistic that Jay was given so much leeway despite being caught helping a criminal organization. There were small things like this throughout the episode that really hurt the overall credibility of the story.

Midway through the episode, Monty told Lara and Davis that Grace gave them the phone belonging to Lucas. That was a funny mistake since Ruth actually gave them the phone a few seconds before and Lara also pointed that out. That was actually less egregious than some of the other silly things in this episode, but I thought it was worth pointing out.

The ending was pretty sloppy, including Cora being attacked by Mariam, Cora’s fight with Elsa, and Elsa’s arrest. The finale wasn’t all that bad, but viewers will have to put up with a lot to enjoy it. I still think the Davis Lindo character needs to be restructured to really showcase the uniqueness of the character and Romario Simpson’s charisma. Even though this is just three episodes, there could be more room for personal dramas, humor, and Jamaican culture.

What’s the point of having a Jamaican detective if you’re not going to explore that culturally? Without that, Granite Harbour really becomes just like everything else. The finale scores a 5 out of 10. Recaps of Granite Harbour can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising with us here.
