Janet – The episode opens with Janet Fenton (Shernet Swearine) narrating about people telling her that she will never get out of the ghetto. She swears to never be like her mother, Ruth Fenton (Sherando Ferril). Ruth emerges from the house, grabs her by the arm, and pulls her down the sidewalk. She recalls being teased by her classmates. Sister Agatha (Dorothy Cunningham) assures Janet that she has lots of potential and if she keeps up her studies, she could be a secretary or bank clerk. Janet mentally curses Sister Agatha for not expecting more of her and vows to show them. With a big plan in mind, she takes a job at Somertime Tours where she later meets Freddie Somerville (Peter John Thwaites). She says Millie-Jean Black’s (Tamara Lawrance) death was never part of her plan but nothing would get in the way of her plan. The scene switches to Freddie lying in a pool of blood on a boat. A distraught Janet calls his name. Millie pulls her away. As they arrive outside the police station, Millie receives a call from Luke Holborn (Joe Dempsie). Ignoring the call, she decides the police station isn’t safe and takes her to the pub instead. She washes Janet’s arms when Richie (Derrick Levy) arrives with a box and offers to show her where she can clean up. Millie calls Meera Thakur (Anji Mohindra) to ask her to check if Holborn filed a missing person’s report for a 9-year-old Romeo Lawrence Jr. (Tijhon Rose) who was trafficked from Kingston to London 10 days ago. Meera assures her that he is not corrupt. Millie tells her that Freddie’s London contact was Ahmed and Romeo’s alias was Anthony Mantel. Meera questions if Millie should be working on the case. Seeing Richie, Millie ends the call. He asks what is going on. Refusing to tell him, she asks to borrow his car. He hands over his keys. She kisses him before leaving.
Bringing the vehicle to a stop, Millie tries to convince Janet to talk to her. Janet asks why she returned to Kingston. Shirley Lawrence (Shanice McCatty) sends Millie photos and a video of Romeo. Upset, Millie accuses her of grooming Romeo and transporting him to the airport. Janet denies taking him to the airport. Millie warns her that she will get 30 years for trafficking and her baby won’t know her. At the police station, Barracat (Belinda Reid) and Lance Stennet (Christopher Daley) are watching an interrogation when Holborn approaches. Lance says they are closing in on the Bombers. Holborn questions Millie’s motives and abilities. Barracat assures Lance that Millie will arrive soon. Later, Holborn is talking to someone on the phone about Corsica (Nestor Aaron Absera) who he blames for Freddie telling Millie and Janet about them. The individual orders him to do something but he refuses and insists the Bombers take care of it. When Holborn mentions flying back to London, the call abruptly ends.
Millie takes Janet to the Gully which concerns Hibiscus (Chyna McQueen). Ignoring a call from Barracat, Millie calls Curtis (Gershwyn Eustache Jnr) and scolds him for getting Lance involved. He refuses to take the blame. She claims Freddie was frightened of Holborn who she insists is corrupt. Janet shoves Hibiscus and takes off running. Millie takes her down and holds her while she cries. Elsewhere, Corsica informs Holborn that six of his Bombers have been picked up by Babylon. Holborn says Freddie told a police officer before he was killed. He takes Corsica’s gun and car. At the Gully, Janet mourns Freddie’s death. Millie asks her what he was like. Janet says he was quick-tempered. She admits to working at Somertime Tours, so she could meet Freddie who was the boss. Millie asks if they utilized the Somerville company for human trafficking. She pulls Janet to her feet. Janet spits on her. Millie slaps her. Janet claims to have gotten their passports and the school brochure from Levonne Jackson at Trafalgar Road. Millie alerts Curtis. Holborn watches Curtis get into a taxi and pursues it. Millie arrives at Somertime Tours to find it closed but the door is unlocked. Armed, she leads Janet through the business to find a deceased Val (Dacoda Mitchell) lying on the floor. Janet claims Val oversees the human trafficking operation. She covers her mouth and rushes away. Curtis arrives in the taxi outside. Holborn pulls up behind them. Millie checks the restroom to find it empty. Holborn sees Janet running away and pursues her on foot but soon loses her.
Curtis forces Millie to call Barracat. Millie tells her that Freddie was afraid Holborn was going to kill him. Refusing to believe Freddie’s story, Barracat orders her to bring Janet to the police station. Millie says Janet fled and ends the call. After briefly talking to Curtis about the human trafficking operation, she goes to look for Janet. He calls Daniel (Jomo Dixon) and asks him to check the flight logs. A short time later, Daniel texts him the name, Daphne Leighton at 177 Patterson House on Duff Street. Curtis alerts Millie. She continues to ignore Barracat’s calls. Elsewhere, Janet calls Holborn and promises to give him information. He arrives a short time later and she gets in the car with him. Millie receives a call from Meera saying Romeo and Anthony Mantel are not in the database. She says there is no evidence of Holborn filing a missing person’s report for Romeo. Millie insists he is corrupt, but Meera isn’t so sure. She questions if Sanguis Meridian was hired to shut down the investigation. Meera asks for Romeo’s photos and flight number, so she can report him missing.
At a café, Holborn claims JPF murdered Freddie. Janet says Millie believes he did it. He asks where Millie is. Ignoring his question, she expresses her desire to work for Lindo. He initially denies knowing Lindo. She claims to have found Romeo and needs to get out of Kingston. He agrees to take her and asks her to call Millie. She says Millie will not fall for it and insists Lindo needs her. Elsewhere, Daphne tells Millie and Curtis that they took all her money and sold all her possessions. She denies knowing where they are sending her. Curtis and Millie discuss a plan to have Scotland Yard there when she arrives. Daphne warns that they know everything about her and regrets not leaving on the 9th when she was to chaperone a boy. Scanning the flight list, Curtis sees Pia Williams left on the 9th. Millie receives a call from a frantic Hibiscus asking to be picked up at the old fort off Palisadoes. A man orders Millie to come alone. She races to the location to find a beaten and battered Hibiscus with Holborn. She pleads with him to not hurt Hibiscus and places her gun on the ground. Holborn aims his gun at her. Janet appears, accuses Millie of using her, and retrieves the gun. Holborn shoots her in the head. Hibiscus grabs his leg. He hits her with his gun. Millie grabs his arm, causing his gun to discharge. A physical dispute ensues. Hibiscus retrieves a knife and stabs Holborn in the back.
Millie and Hibiscus flee the scene. Hibiscus orders her to pull over. Millie tells her that Holborn is a high-ranking officer in the Met. Hibiscus gets out and starts walking. Millie gives her some cash and says she can have the proceeds from the sale of the house. She is returning to England. Hibiscus says Babylon or someone worse will come for her. Millie assures her that she is safer without her. Hibiscus asks who the new Orville is. Millie says Romeo needs her to find him. Hibiscus holds out her hand. Millie takes it. Hibiscus says take care before walking away. A short time later, Curtis scolds Millie for leaving without telling him. She says Holborn had Hibiscus. Daphne tries to stop her from leaving. Millie warns her if she doesn’t stop it, they will come after her and her sister. Curtis urges her to let Meera find Romeo. She pleads with him to keep Hibiscus safe and out of jail before leaving.
Richie sits quietly while the police search the restaurant. At Norman Manley International Airport, Millie gives Daphne Leighton’s passport to the agent. The agent looks at it and permits her to pass. In a voicemail, Barracat warns her that she is putting their jobs in jeopardy, and they are coming for her. Millie tosses her phone in the trash bin. The episode ends.
Get Millie Black Recaps
The story alludes to Janet being somewhat of a brilliant thinker and manipulator. She is the least convincing while Millie is the most obnoxious and unlikeable. Millie has repeatedly ignored orders from her superiors, contaminated crime scenes, and overstepped her boundaries. She takes it one step further by utilizing a fake passport to flee Jamaica. Barracat has already shown her weakness when it comes to disciplining Millie.
There are two ways for Millie’s story to end. She will go down trying or come out the hero. The episode deserves a 5 out of 10.
