Revelations: Chapter One – Episode 9 begins with Boyd (Harold Perrineau) and Ellis Stevens’ (Corteon Moore) frantic search for Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori). The entire situation only becomes more strained with the night quickly approaching. It doesn’t help that Boyd wants to return to town before that happens. Their decision is made for them when Boyd nearly collapses. While Ellis helps him back to town, Fatima anxiously awaits Elgin’s return (Nathan D. Simmons). When he does return, she immediately begins negotiating for her release. Although he maintains the claim that she is there for her and the baby’s protection, he physically stops her from leaving several times.
Their confrontation arrives at a point where she tells him that she’s also seen the Kimono Lady (Shuoxin Fu) and blames her for Tillie’s (Deborah Grover) death. He ultimately fails to convince her otherwise, but he does convince her to drink the blood he withdrew in the previous episode.
Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) becomes frustrated with Victor (Scott McCord) when his memories scare him so badly that he no longer wants to pursue them. Although Tabitha’s vision isn’t shown at the time, Sara Myers (Avery Konrad) takes note of Tabitha’s strange reaction when she later attempts to stop Victor from leaving. Thanks to Kenny Liu (Ricky He) arriving with the news of Julie Matthews’ (Hannah Cheramy) collapse, she doesn’t get much time to pursue it. As Julie is given a clean bill of health, Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) briefly questions her about being in the woods with Ethan Matthews (Simon Webster). She isn’t much more forthcoming than Tabitha was but reveals just enough to send Jim to question Randall (A.J. Simmons).
Being that Randall suffers a vision right before Jim arrives to question him about being with Julie, he is already extra surly. Despite this, Randall tells him the truth about his and Julie’s trip and encourages Jim to pick up where he left off with the driving lesson. Things aren’t going much better for Boyd and Ellis and only worsen when Boyd’s refusal to go to visit Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) at the clinic leads to him finally telling Ellis about his illness.
Just as Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) has second thoughts about Fatima’s situation, Jim returns to the clinic. He not only apologizes for his recent less-than-inspiring approach to parenting but adds that he is done with second-guessing her decisions. If she thinks her decisions will lead them home, she’s got his unwavering support. While Boyd and Ellis’ meeting goes down a similar path, Sara puts the final touches on the snowman figurine. Rather than leading to what should be a celebratory moment, the completion is followed by a painfully teasing vision of Fatima’s kidnapping. She will later share the discovery with Boyd and Ellis while Fatima tries to escape after Elgin asks her to change into a special dress for the birth.
Ellis and Boyd are still arguing at the police station when Sara shows up to share the news about her vision. The way she explains things, it makes the situation seem as if the creatures are teasing Fatima’s disappearance because despite her being close, they’ll never be able to get to her in time. Ellis doesn’t handle this well and Boyd goes to the Colony House to share the discovery with Donna. During their discussion, she tells him that she’s decided not to persecute Fatima. Learning of the kidnapping inspires Donna to arrange a search.
Boyd and Donna share the news of Fatima’s disappearance with the residents at the diner and despite their frustration with Boyd, he delivers a rousing speech that appears to inspire everyone to get involved in the search. After breaking off into groups of two, the search begins. Boyd, Donna, and even Elgin use the search to bond with their search partner. Choosing Kenny as his partner, Boyd attempts to put their argument to bed while also getting him to agree to become sheriff when he resigns. Kenny refuses the offer but at the same time, offers to return to his position as deputy. Donna chooses Acosta (Samantha Brown) in hopes of getting better acquainted. Despite the rocky start, things appear to end with the potential for a cooperative future.
In hopes of learning more about Victor, Henry (Robert Joy) takes a similar approach with Jade (David Alpy), who is busy with a bottle tree project at the Colony Home. Although Jade is dismissive of Henry and searching for Fatima, he drops everything when Henry mentions wanting to learn more about Victor. At the same time, Victor is on his way to chop down the Faraway Tree. This is immediately sidelined when the Boy in White (Vox Smith) shows up. While Victor becomes frustrated with the Boy’s reluctance to help, Ellis grows equally frustrated with Elgin’s story about an episode with a missing friend. Despite becoming upset, Ellis tells him about his mother, Abbey Stevens (Lisa Ryder).
By this time, Jim and Ethan have arrived at their crashed RV where Jim attempts to relate his wrecking the RV to Ethan telling Julie to enter the ruins. Ethan appears convinced as he later encourages Jim to ignore a radio page that supposedly comes from Thomas. Julie and Tabitha share a similar experience when Julie confesses her fears of being alone while simultaneously sharing more about her experience at the ruins. When Tabitha embraces her, she notices that one of the Ghoulish kids is watching them. It isn’t much longer when the creature beckons her to follow.
Before his frustration leads him back to the bar to pretend to be productive, Jade proves to be incredibly insightful when he relates Victor to Tarzan. Having been stranded in the town at such an early age, it’s all Victor knows and he feels threatened when Henry challenges that way of life. Things are nowhere near as productive for Elgin as Ellis continues to grow frustrated with him. Ellis nearly reaches his breaking point when they arrive at the lake and Elgin theorizes that Fatima’s absence might be her attempts to do something good. A brief scene shows that Fatima has discovered what appears to be an underground hatch. Not from lack of trying but she fails to get it open and is soon sidelined by the arrival of the Kimono Woman.
By this time, Julie and Tabitha have arrived at the cellar to find the door open. Tabitha tells Julie to wait outside while she investigates and finds Victor in a bit of a daze as he’s apparently just realized that he was the root cause of Miranda’s (Sarah Booth) death. Tabitha embraces him and has a similar reaction as she did earlier. This time, however, her vision is revealed, suggesting that she was/is Miranda.
The episode ends with her remembering being attacked and possibly killed by the Smiley Face Creature (Jamie McGuire).

Another excellent episode! I really think this has been the best season by far. The others were good, but this one is truly special. I was not expecting the major reveal with Tabitha. I hate to see this season come to an end but I am so intrigued to see how things round out. It could be that I have become attached to the characters and series but I am not above admitting there are some problems with the show.
For one, I’ve completed migrated from Victor. His character is easily one of the most intriguing, but Scott offers a less-than-stellar performance. I was never all too impressed with Alpay’s portrayal of Jade and didn’t even much care for the character. When the series began, I remember thinking he was a useless character, but that’s completely changed. Alpay’s acting has helped, but Jade’s story has become one of the most interesting.
I wouldn’t be sad to see Fatima or Ellis disappear off the face of the earth, but the baby scenario has raised some intriguing possibilities. I’m almost betting she’ll die during the birth or Ellis will end up killing Elgin. I never thought I would say this, but I’d like to see Boyd get a bit more attention. I was also glad that radio transmissions came back into play. A very good episode that deserves a 6.4 out of 10.
